Just wanted to give you an update on where we are with our Habitat for Humanity Springfield project house. In case you haven't heard about our HFHS project this year, you can check the archives here.
Before we dive into some photos and notes about what we've been working on this past month, I wanted to show you this:
A few readers requested we show a layout map of the house so you can (hopefully) better understand the space as we show sneak peeks and images from throughout the house. Josh created this awesome map so we'll all be on the same page. 🙂
The big news this month is we've been painting… a lot!
You might have seen Elsie's peek of the some of the paint colors we're using in the house from her IG feed this month. Keep reading if you want to know the specific colors we chose (we used Valspar brand unless otherwise noted).
First off, deciding on paint for this project was MUCH harder than any other project we've worked on before. We wanted to refresh the space and make it feel more complete/cohesive. We also wanted to keep it somewhat neutral since we won't be the final residents in this house. In the end we knew there was no "right" or "wrong" answer when it came to paint. Many of the doors and trim around the house had already been partially painted white (some doors where painted half white and left half unpainted). So, we decided to finish painting all the trim throughout the house. We also painted most of the walls ( probably 80%+) an off white (Paramount White) to make the space feel bigger and also to keep it somewhat neutral. In the above photo you can see the front door, which we painted a bright blue (Wishing Well).
Here is a peek at one of the walls in the dining room (that faces the hallway and bathroom). We painted it a grey (Worn and Weathered Tin by Benjamin Moore) chalkboard paint and kept the rest of the walls white.
The door that leads from the kitchen to the laundry room got a fresh coat of mint (Mino's Eye), which is the same color as one wall in bedroom 1 (see layout map).
And here's one wall in bedroom 2, painted with La Fonda Flamenco Pink. The other walls remained white. So, a little splash of color here and there but nothing too crazy. 🙂 All in all it cost right around $950 for the supplies to paint the entire house.
We want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who came out this past month to help us paint: everyone at the ABM office, Brandon and Morgan Goodwin and the college group from NCC. Thank you!
Here's a gif Josh made of me when we were prepping the ceilings. I think this is a good look for me, right? 🙂
As you can see, we're still a long way from being done. We've started cleaning up the floors, doing some tiling, and we still have some kitchen updates on our list for the immediate next steps. We're also going to be sharing a longer, fuller post (from Josh!) full of information on how we prepped and painted this entire house. Probably many of you have painted in your home or apartment before, or you will in the future (you should anyway—yay for color!), and we learned a lot from this house and encountered a few situations that we had never seen before. So we'd like to provide you with that resource of information from what we learned, so stay tuned for that. :)
Thanks for letting us share the latest update of our HFHS project with you! Let us know if you have any questions. -The ABM Team

J’adore that miny color AND the .gif
Putcha chemical wands in the ai-yahhh and wave ’em round like you just don’t ca-yahhh!
The house looks great! It’s so fun to see the progress. And those pops of colours are also so fun. Good balance between neutral and bold 🙂
Are you redoing the wood floors, or just cleaning them? Painting them? Can’t wait to see!
Thanks so much for keeping us updated. I love watching this project come together. Just hope the family who gets this house are Doctor Who fans. You painted the front door a perfect TARDIS blue.: ) It looks fabulous and the palette is so refreshing. Can’t wait to see the next phase!
What a great project. I like that you’re painting this house in colorful happy colors. I think it will feel like such a bright and hopeful spot for whoever inhabits the space. What a great project.

Oh be still my heart!! The layout reminds me of the house we lived in in Kansas. I just got so nostalgic! I miss that home ( http://myfriendstaci.com/home-tour/spanish-bungalow/ ) so much 🙂 Here in California finding a cute bungalow like this would be soooo expensive! Love the work you are doing and the future residents (I imagine a young family) are going to be so happy 🙂
This is such an amazing project you guys are doing. I love the mint blue door the most. It’s such a bright and beautiful contrast against the white walls.

Wow – you’ve done such an incredible job with choosing the colours! You’ve really managed to strike the perfect balance between adding a pop of colour without being overbearing.
I can’t wait to see more updates from this project. And thanks for posting the floor plan!

These colours are so fun and different. I’m a huge fan of painting doors different colours. I’ve never done it before but it brightens up the space so nicely!

Thanks so much for keeping us posted about this inspiring project, i love these updates!! It is such a great thing you’re doing and I am so excited for the next steps 🙂 Whoever gets that house will be pleased and incredibly thankful for all the thoughts and effort you have put in it!
Thanks for sharing!

I love seeing this all come together! I also REALLY loved the floorplan!!! I kind of have a thing for them. I love seeing the different layouts of places.
The colors look great! This homeowner is going to be one lucky person!
I cannot believe how much you have done already!!! The colors are beautiful, but I am even more blown away with how great the house looks vs the photos from your first walk through photos. I mean…. the floor! Unbelievable. What an awesome project… and wonderful cause. NICE!
It’s nice to see colours, but only in other’s houses! When it came to painting ours, we just went with pure brilliant white everywhere.. Though we did expose some brick walls in all of their 125 year old glory! I hope we can get more adventurous with colours when we come to do the living spaces.
If anyone wants tips on how to survive living on a building site, I have a few tips on my blog at http://soletal.blogspot.com
I think what you guys are doing is truly amazing, I wish I lived nearer so I could help out in some way, I’m sure a lot of your readers feel the same! How about setting up a donations page so we could help out in another way, maybe contribute basic home goods or furniture families may need?
OMG…!!! ALL OF YOU MAKE MAGIC WITH THE COLORS..!!! PLEASE HELP ME TO DECIDE ABOUT THE COLORS OF MY HOUSE..!!! LOVE YOU GUYS…!!! GREAT GREAT PROGRESS..!!! THE BEST IS YET TO COME IN YOUR HANDS..!!!
I’m wondering why you’re painting in such taste specific colors instead of a more neutral pallet that may appeal to broader spectrum of potential homeowners. I’m just sayin….
Love the colors you chose! So bright and fun. Keep up the fantastic work. Can’t wait to see the final product!
I love the colors http://www.hannamarielei.com
I love the little pops of color here and there. I also am totally obsessed with the large flat trim. We are debating on something similar in our home. Love!
Great colors! Aaaaaannnnnd, I’m obsessed with the trim. Have we talked about this yet? Have I missed it? I think we must talk about it.
Those colors are fabulous! I am loving all of them put together! Awesome progress!
Love the colors! Too bad I just painted. Next time 😉
I love the bright colors! But what else would I expect from you guys? 😛 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
These are incredible! I’ve been contemplating a room that mint greenish color, so this is extra fun to look at!
I love the mint paint! You guys are seriously giving me the strong itch to DIY our house.

I love the mint door. Plain white walls with colour doors look great. This looks like so much fun!
Love the colors!!!!! It’s amazing how much paint can transform a space!!!!
Such beautiful and happy colors! I hope whoever gets this house loves them and can make many many happy memories with their family in it! I can’t wait to see more posts on this project!

I was literally just wondering about when we would hear about the HFHS project!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, it’s looking amazing.
Looks great so far! Sometimes I want to be one of those people who has an earth-toney house of neutral colors and then I wake up and think WAIT, NO, COLOR EVERYWHERE ALWAYS! So BRB going to Lowes for that mint paint…
What a joyful mix of colours! I love Habitat For Humanity and everything they do. It’s wonderful that you’ve contributed your talents to this project. Kudos to you!!!
It’s a lovely touch to have the front door of the house you’re creating for someone else painted in a colour called ‘Wishing Well’
Really?! How funny! I have checked out the Doctor Who series yet, seems like one of those things that can take over your life if you’re not careful. 🙂

Layout can make such a difference in a space. So, I totally agree, they are super interesting. Or at least I think so too. 🙂

Exposed brick is so fun—wish we had some in our home. I guess dare to dream for the next someday. 🙂

We’ve been thinking of adding some way for you to donate directly to HFH if you wish. Our company is not a not for profit, so we just don’t want to in any way be the recipient of any funds. This is our project to give back, not receive, after all. But I love where your heart is at!
-Emma
Yes, it’s a TOUGH thing to decide. We want to give it homy touches but we don’t want to create a sterile environment either. So, we’re trying to strike a good balance. I’m not going to say we’re perfect at it, but we’re doing our best.
-Emma
I LOVE all the colors you’ve chosen! I think the mint color and the grey may be my favorites, but it’s really hard to decide!
what great colors!!

This is looking great! Love that you are doing this and really want to try to do something similar in my community.
LOVE the colors!!!
I think that’s a really cool idea! Setting up some type of fund where we could help furnish the home.
