While I have loved sharing lots of things with you guys over the last few months (DIYs, recipes, tips, etc.), I am so excited to share something today that is near and dear to my heart—my home! Todd and I bought our first home about a year and a half ago, and while it was a bit of a whirlwind process, I'm so glad we ended up where we did. We only had three weeks to find and buy a house before Todd left on a three-month tour, but thankfully we fell in love with our current house right away and got all the papers signed before he left.
I spent the next three months moving into and renovating the new house (you can read more about that saga here). I kept all the design choices a secret from him until he came back (although, of course, we discussed any ideas he might hate before he left), so when he returned, it was like his own little HGTV home makeover show. Everything looked completely different, and he loved it!
The house was mostly decorated in brown and beige when I moved in and, unfortunately, neither of those colors exist at all in my color palette. What can I say? I'm a black and grey girl through and through. I had the tile removed and put down a dark wide-board maple floor instead. While it is more maintenance to keep up with a dark floor (every speck shows on dark floors), I still love the flooring choice I made. Totally worth the extra sweeping! I painted all the trim and doors white and painted the dining/kitchen/living room area a pale mint called Sprinkle by Valspar. That whole area only has windows on one side of the space, so it really needed all the brightness it could get, and the mint was just the thing to add some life to the space.
I shared this studded side table project earlier this year, and I love having it in this space. It's such a one-of-a-kind piece!
I love that Todd (usually!) lets me do my crazy house decorating ideas. I was a little worried that he would balk at the idea of wallpapering a giant mural in our dining room, but he could hardly finish his dinner he was so excited when I proposed the idea one night dinner—YES!
Pretty soon after Todd and I saw Elsie's dining table, we decided we would try and make our own version. We chose a darker stain and brushed steel legs to fit our style, and we were thrilled with how it turned out. It was our first woodworking project, so we were a little hesitant, but we loved the result. Teamwork! The table is perfect for our mid-century-inspired dining chairs (from TOO by Blu Dot) and bright cowhide rug.
Overall, we love this little eating nook, and it definitely gets used most for eating brunch. We are big on brunch around here.
Our kitchen got quite the face-lift as well. I actually haven't seen a side-by-side comparison of the "before and after" until now, so I had forgotten what it used to look like! I painted all the cabinets white to lighten up the space and installed modern hardware on the doors (that project was actually how I really learned to use a drill—wowza!) You can see my rope rug DIY has settled in quite nicely on the floor, and the kitties love to lie on it while we make dinner.
My sister bought us these blue stools for our first Christmas in the house, and they are just what our counter needed. So cute!
I really wanted to start a kitty gallery wall in the house, so I chose right above the sink so I could see it while I wash dishes. The left top print is by Wesley Bird, and the rest are ones that I made (the pretty grey cat on the bottom left is our cat Charlie).
Thanks for letting me share part of our home with you today! I hope you enjoyed it because we are going to give you an inside look into the rest of the house in the weeks to come. I'm excited to show you more! xo. Laura

I love your love for cats!!!
I’m so happy you shared your home! It’s incredible. I wish everyone could see it in real life.
ps. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I LOVE this! The white cabinet makeover and the leopard wall are my favorite parts!
Super fun! I agree with the opinion on brown and beige. Every time my husband and I look at houses, I always find myself rejecting them. He’ll ask, “What about that one?” To which, I’ll respond “Nuh uh, icky brown.” I know you can change that in most cases, it’s just my instantaneous reaction 🙂 Great job on your spaces!
This is the most drastic before and after ever! haha I love it. 2 thing – I am absolutely addicted to grapefruit izze and what is the color on the walls in your kitchen? It’s fantastic.
Oh and thing 3, where are those awesome knives from??
Lovely! It looks so modern and fresh. You’ve got great taste!
The transformation is beautiful! Show us more!!!
Wow! What a gorgeous room! I love the mint in the walls 🙂
What paint/process did you use for painting your cabinets?
I love your kitchen! good job Laura!

I had searched the website weeks/months ago trying to find your home your. Love your style! Thank you for sharing!!
A question for you about the cabinets: were they solid wood that you sanded slightly before painting white or a form of laminate? If laminate, how did you prep them? (We’ve got laminate cabinet that I’d love to do something to, but am afraid to…)
it’s adorable! i love the blue green wall paint. do you have the brand/color you can share?
your kitchen and dining area is GORGEOUS!!! love your style 🙂 im so inspired. Thank you!
this is so gorgeous! love the cat gallery wall and the dark floors, and if I wasn’t dying to have white kitchen cabinets with mint walls I definitely am now. you knocked this out of the park (again!)
Love the kitty accents! Would love to know where you got the gold cat cactus planter!!!
I LOVE CATS!
THIS POST IS THE BEST!!
LOVE THE COLOR!!
I understand how you feel about the brown and beige. (We rent, so we are limited in what we can do to our space.) I really love your color choices and how it brightened up the room. But my favorite makeover has to be the cabinets! That alone really transformed the entire room.
Now I want to try and convince our landlord to let me paint our horrible, dark wood from the 60’s or 70’s cabinets. I think it would really brighten up the space, and make it feel less like a dungeon.
WOW! What an amazing transformation. So bright and airy, and I LOVE the gold cat planter.
Wow. I’m left speechless after this post! It’s amazing how much of a difference you can make to one simple area which, in turn, can even boost up your mood! Can’t wait to start working on projects like these when I get my own home!

This is such a gorgeous redo. You have such a great, cohesive style. And the pictures with you and the leopard cracked me up!
Gorgeous! Wow! I am not into cats at all, whatsoever but even I found myself adoring what you did with the place. My favorite piece was the giant snow leapord mural. You have some snazzy taste, Laura! Love it! 🙂
Love and Luck,

Cutest house ever! That snow leopard mural is genius.
Thanks! The color is Sprinkle by Valspar and the knife was a gift from my Mom 🙂
Laura
We are planning on sharing that process in a later post since it’s a bit involved, but we will let you know!
Laura
They were solid wood and we are planning on sharing the process in another post (hopefully soon!). It’s a lot of work, but worth it!
Laura 🙂
Thanks!
It’s called Sprinkle by Valspar 🙂
Laura
It was thrifted and painted, he’s so cute!
Laura 🙂
nice! great job, laura!
WOW what a stunning transformation. Love it!

I love this! I’m learning I’m not a beige/brown girl either and my house is very much that. I’m slowly convincing my husband that we need to paint every piece of wood white! I love all the color, normally I don’t like white appliances but they really pull your bright kitchen together! Eventually I’ll get to renovate my kitchen, it’ll be big work, my counters are mauve so I _have_ to replace those. Thanks for the inspiration!
So cute!!
I love the cat mural. I also love how something as simple as paint, can transform a whole room.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that mint colour!! I’m always a bit afraid of colour – maybe soon I’ll take a leaf out of your book and be brave!

Would you be willing to show the light fixture above your dining room table? It looks crystal and we can’t see it due to the awesome leopard on your wall. I wanna see!
I’m always amazed by these restyle projects! It looks great! Love the “You’ve cat to be kittin me right meow” poster.

sooooooo beautiful!!
Laura seems like a beautiful person, so talented.
I love her strong color concepts through her whole house!
The blue of that rug in the dining room is amazing! It really ties the whole room together. I never ever would have thought that wallpapering a giant snow leopard onto a wall would be a good idea and I am honestly amazed at how awesome it looks in this space!
We’ve got a teal-mint kitchen, too. It’s such a happy color! Now, if only we had the beautiful natural lighting you’ve got…
I love that cobalt rug! Can you tell us more about it? And that kitty gallery wall has inspired me to do something similar for my pampered pooch!
Love this style so much. I so wish I could do more with where I live! x
OH MAN. I love it when cat people decorate. This place is too legit to quit!
What a beautiful kitchen !! I love the color of the kitchen wall !!
The blue stools are my favorite.
the wall color is perfect! love how this turned out.

Looks awesome, Laura! I think white cabinets are the big trend now. I painted mine white 4 years ago when I moved in, and the walls are also a very similar color. Cute stools and cat framed art!
Wow Laura, you and Todd did a fantastic job! Can’t wait to see the follow up posts on these projects! Love the mix of bold and calm put together so well.
Laura, I LOVE your style! I am so inspired when I see someone change up a space like this. Thank you for brightening up my day!
How did you paint the kitchen cabinets? I’m scared that if i do it,the paint will peel. Please share how you did this,my cabinets are hideous.
I LOVE this so much. I’ve been wanting to redo my kitchen and I think this is just the inspiration I need. <3
i JUST commented after the rug tutorial that I wished we could see your home!! Very great space, can’t wait to see the rest!!! THanks for sharing!
I HAVE to know the color of your walls! Super duper pretty! Love!
Your cabinets turned out so great! Do you have any tips or does anyone know of a good tutorial? I would love to paint mine white, but I reeallly don’t want to mess them up or have the paint chip off in a couple of years.
What a unique dining room!
About the kitchen make-over: did you paint your oven?! If so, we’d love a post on that!
Sarah
Wow! What a beautiful kitchen you have made! I love how bright it is – I just want to step in the pictures and start cooking! Haha

Wow. No, seriously. Wow. I love both spaces, specially the kitchen!! Those blue stools are so pretty!

thanks for the inspiration laura! the meow art wall is so playful, loves it.
Hello Laura and everybody at ABM!
I have a big question about how to start redecorating an entire room like you did here. I know what I like when I see it but when I’m staring at the big space I want to re-do, I have too many ideas and nothing comes into focus.
You guys always seem so sure about your projects and decor, but are you ever stuck between choices? If so, do you have any steps you follow before taking on a redecorating project? It would really help out a lot. I love everything you guys do! 😀
Lots of love,
Maria
I really enjoyed seeing the before/after of the kitchen. What a difference some paint makes! And changing out the floor. It looks great, and cost efficient. My husband and I are house hunting now (ugh, for like 8 months, it sucks, I just want a house!) and half the homes we look at are beigetastic. I’ve been confident that with my mom’s tiling skills and my need to paint cupboards, we can turn a bland kitchen into a dream, and this post just confirms my resolve.
very nice-warm and cozy-nice job
its really beautiful 🙂 I am amazed of how bright it all seems despite there is so much black color. Great job!
the snow leopard wallpaper is amazing! so creative

Both of these rooms are gorgeous! I loooove the snow leopard wall!
SO stunning! I absolutely love how fresh and clean it looks. Especially all the hints of blue and green 🙂 And that kitty gallery is adorable!
This is beautiful! I am sure your cats feel important haha. Also, this is completely off the topic, but what cheese is that to the far right in the kitchen photo? The purple veined one?
I love the mint color!! Totally in love with the kitchen. Great Job!
the transformation looks amazing! love the cat pictures 🙂
Wowza…what an improvement! Job well done and it looks stunning. What paint did you use to paint your trim, doors and kitchen cabinets? I would love to do the same around my house.

I love how you made it totally what you like!
So fabulous! Especially that bright blue cowhide rug!
It’s Free People, but no, I didn’t get it recently 🙂
Laura
Hi Maria!
I think that process is a little different for everyone, but sometimes it’s really easy because you know exactly what you want, and other times it’s pretty difficult. There’s usually a different starting point for each room—a rug or pillow I love or a wall color, and then I just move out from there. Sometimes the space dictates certain choices though. Looking online for inspiration can be helpful, but it can also overwhelm some people with too many choices. I usually suggest picking your most special items for the space and then working out from that point 🙂
Good luck!
Laura 😉
Thanks! They were Blu Dot for Target, but they aren’t for sale anymore 🙁
Laura
The trim and door paint is a standard semi gloss interior paint (bright white) and the cabinet paint is from Sherwin Williams 🙂
Laura
It would be great to hear more about how you painted your kitchen cabinets? We have a great solid-oak kitchen that is too new to rip out but really want them white and we’re too scared to paint them ourselves!
omg I love it! Such an amaziing change! 🙂 xx
Your home is adorable!! Loving all the cats…that wall is amazing!
I am not a fan of brown or beige either. I absolutely love the changes, and the kitty gallery is my favorite 🙂
Are the countertops the same? They look darker, but I can’t tell if that’s just the contrast with the white cabinets and lighting, or new countertops.
Such a charming remodeling job you did on your kitchen and dining room. It looks so crisp and fresh; like chocolate mints on a fluffy pillow. 🙂
Seriously in LOVE with this entire look! I am a big fan of wild cats and I love the giant mural of the snow leopard… so much! Everything in the kitchen and dining area compliment eachother personally. A great sense of style. Gives me inspiration for my new place. Thank you!!!
Please check out my blog as well: https://lulusandtiffanyblues.wordpress.com/

Great style! I’d really like to know where that little gold cat with the cactus inside is from! I love it!!
SO DARN CUTE! Love it all!
Looks great! The wall colour is fantastic! I do have a question. It’s a bit silly, but it’s something I’ve always wondered when watching American television or reading American blogs… Do you guys really wear your shoes in the house? Thanks for humouring my curiosity 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants a cat art gallery!
Thanks Laura, it’s so nice to have a little peek inside your home. You did an amazing job! I feel like me and you have such similar tastes. I love all your DIY’s 🙂 Have a great weekend! Nikki
I love the kitty gallery wall!
Love the before and after pictures!!!
do you remember what white paint you chose? we just started painting, and chose a warm white ….but i am now really interested in what white paint actually ends up looking like in action. so many white paints!!!! i never knew…..
This looks awesome *-* the cat decor is the coolest thing ever <3
Gaah, love your dining area so much! Awesome job. Can’t wait to see the rest of your DIY projects in the house.

That mural really makes a statement – love it! x
not to sound cliché but…. I really love what you’ve done with the place!!! LOOOOOOOOVEEEE IT! Love the wall colour, the kitty wall, the leopard wall paper!! I’ve never been a big fan of dark floors but seeing your house definitely made me consider it like an option for my own house!!
Is all of the light in the “after” photos from that one window?! It looks heavenly.
Ha I was reading the comments to see if this had been asked! Eagerly awaiting that post since we put an offer in on a home with similar cabinets…
Can you come over and do my wall? I just love it. Great job!
where did you get your cat planter?? adorbs.
Hi Laura!
Great renovations- You guys did a great job! It makes me feel that I could conquer these types of renovations in the future (when I have my own home). I was wondering though, what were the measurements on the woods you purchased?
yesssssssssss!
The colors you put together are just stunnnnning! So much inspiration in this space 🙂
