I love handing out candy on Halloween night. It’s super fun seeing all the cute costumes. I feel like every year I see at least one Harry Potter. And that just warms my heart. Make no mistake, a big part of Halloween is all the candy! It’s got me thinking about some of my personal favorite treats. I have a lot, trust me. But one favorite is Twix bars. Here’s an easy (no-bake) way to make your own homemade version.
Here’s the process. First, cover a baking pan with wax paper and a light mist of nonstick cooking spray. Place the shortbread in the pan. Melt the caramels with the milk or cream over low/medium heat. Allow to cool slightly, then pour over the shortbread. I added a little coarse grain sea salt here, but that’s just optional. π Let the caramel set until it has hardened (I let mine set overnight).
Cover a cutting board or work surface with wax paper and a light mist of nonstick cooking spray. Flip the bars out onto the wax paper. Cut into bars and trim off any excess caramel on the edges.
Melt the chocolate with the oil. I microwaved mine in a glass bowl on high for 30 seconds, stirred and repeated until the chocolate was fully melted (mine took about a minute and 30 seconds total).
Last, dip the bars in the chocolate and tap off the excess. Place on a cooling rack and allow the chocolate to set before eating. You can put the bars in the refrigerator to speed up the process. For trick or treating we all know that store-bought, individually wrapped candy is the way to go. But these homemade candy bars would be fun to serve at a party, take to the office or just leave in a giant jar on your kitchen counter (taunting you).
Warning: don’t do that last suggestion. Trust me. Enjoy! xo. Emma

OMG, these bars look so delicious and mouth-watering. I almost would like to make them right now. But it’s late and shops are closed. So I have to wait until tomorrow. But I assure you that I will try this recipe. It doesn’t seem too difficult. So thanks for the inspiration. But like you I’m not going to give them away at Halloween but share them with my family.
Um, YUM! These look seriously delicious, and how perfect for Halloween!!!

Oh my… now these I have got to make!
Normally IΒ΄m not really into sweets but Twix (which has the name Raider in the past here in Germany) I like always to eat! How good that I have now a recipe to make them by myself, thanks a lot http://www.dressedwithsoul.blogspot.de
I wish you guys had step by step pictures with your recipes or at least a couple steps. It gets a little confusing having all the steps in one blob.
These are amazing! How do you come up with these recipes all on your own? Magical.
Seeing the costumes while handing out candy is the best! Last year, my favorite costume was a little girl who was dressed up as Little Red Ridinghood and her German Shepherd had grandma’s nightgown and nightcap on!

Agreed Jenn! A list of ingredients and then a list of steps with accompanying pictures, right before or after the step, would make it so much easier. I don’t even bother with these recipes anymore because they make no sense half of the time.
so easy and delicious, wow.

It’s a wonderful idea for Halloween !!
When allowing the caramel to set is it recommended to leave them out to cool slowly, or put them in the refrigerator to help cool them down more making the caramel set harder?

Shortbread + caramel + chocolate = heaven! The homemade version looks amazing. I want to make some this weekend π
M.
I didn’t know it was possible, but you’ve made me love you even more! Love Twix! Didn’t realize it was this simple to make.
I am going to cut these into bite sized treats and put them out at Christmas.
I don’t really understand the point of this recipe. It’s really reaching to call it homemade. You’re using store bought ingredients to make something you can buy at the store for a lot less money. Maybe if the ingredients were better quality or if you made the shortbread or caramel yourself it would be a lot better. This just seems like a waste of time and money.
i need to try this!

I tried to make these last night and found that the caramel wouldn’t stick to the cookie once it hardened. Once I tried to cute them apart all of the shortbread came off!!
Any suggestions? The ones that I salvaged were delicious though!
Looks like Mhamy!!!
I can’t wait to make these!
Nice
Any alternatives for us gluten free?

Yum!! I think I’ll make these guys for our Halloween party next weekend!
I love Twix, because I am obsessed with caramel! I will try this in the near future for sure. Thx for sharing this great idea.
These Twix Bars look great, I will give this receipe try.x
Love this idea!! Tonight was my first night reading comments on this and the Studio post. I just have to say, thank you for being strong enough to do what you do. Reading some of the comments I am hurt that people feel the need to post negatively. Your tag clearly said Halfway HomeMade. You provide a fair amount of posts that range in cooking and decor skills. I am not an expert in the kitchen and a total novice in the decor area, but your posts give me hope that there are things that I CAN DO and that as I delve in, I will gain more skills to tackle ones that require more work. Xoxo!
It looks really good ! But i will be curious to eat it because in my memory Uk shortbreads are really fats (i’m French, i don’t know really well that kind of biscuits). Thank you for sharing all you share !
I made these the other day! The only qualm I have is that the caramel ended up being quite chewy. There was no biting into these bar. Definitely had to cut them with a knife. The taste was fantastic though! I’ll certainly be making these again but I’ll either use a homemade caramel or try adding more cream when melting down the candies. Thanks for the recipe!
these look SO easy! totally trying them sometime!

Hi Emma!
These look SO good. I want to make a lot of holiday treats this year ahead of time! How do you think these would freeze? Worth a shot or do you think freezing would totally ruin the flavor?
Best π
Kyla
Definitely have to try! These look so simple and yummy!
Oh my goodness this is genius! I mean GENIUS!!!
Thank you!

I made these for an office party this week and they were a huge hit with the guys and the girls. Thanks ABM.
This really worked well -I used a tin of condensed milk boiled down to make the toffee bit as I had no sweets and still good. Thanks for the idea xx
yum, these look devine!

Made these this weekend and what a mess. I was going to take pictures but they ended up being a gooey mess. These “bars” were delicious and easy to make, but the caramel melted all over the place. I ended up just putting the chocolate on top, freezing them, and then cutting them into strips. Then they melted all over the plate over the course of the night. What was your trick?
This isn’t home-made. It’s home-assembled.
Mouth watering π
