Lately, I've been styling my hair in knots instead of braids. I shared a photo on instagram and got a bunch of requests for a how-to. Well, here you go. It really is just tying your hair up in knots and adding a few bobby pins. Here we go…This style is super easy to achieve. First, pull your hair into two low pigtails. Divide each side into two pieces and tie as many knots as your length will allow for (I do four on each side). I pull the pieces upwards as I am tying the knots. Before you pin, use your fingers to loosen each knot. Secure with as many bobby pins as needed. I don't use any hairspray, but if you have finer hair it might be a good idea. π That's it!I love how the knots create a more textured look than regular maiden braids. As my hair is getting longer, I am trying to experiment with styles that didn't work for me at shorter lengths. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! xo. Elsie

Love your blog <3
I am dying for my hair to grow faster so it is long enough to do up fun like this. I’ll have to save this one for later. π

I wish my hair was long enough. It looks so great on you!
Gotta try this! I do not master the maiden braids, maybe the knots will be easier… Looks so cute!
Very cute! I wish my hair were long enough to do this. Right now the only knots in my hair are the tangled kind. π
Very pretty! π
This looks great. I always shy away from these hairstyles because I have long thick hair and it needs so many pins. I shall this though π

Q: But is it not a nightmare having to untangle it when you’re done, I hate trying to get knots out of my hair?!
A: Oh no, these knots act more like braids. I wouldn’t, personally, sleep in them. but they will come out easily at the end of the day!
XO!
Must try!
I’m a fan of romantic hair-dos and this is absolutely pretty π

wow I love this and am going to definitely use it… For me it’s really annoying trying to make maiden braids because I have quite long hair, so this is an awesome alternative and looks easier too!
Love it, thank you!

Finally! I love your hair tutorials and eagerly waited for the next one to come…thanks!
I like it! That’s a cute & easy way to do it :-p
I have shoulder length hair so what I do is French braid the lower section of my hair and plait/knot from my ears onwards. Keeps the shorter lengths in check yet let’s me try out your hairstyle ideas (which I adore) π x
Awesome!! I suck at doing my hair.
But maybe I could get this to work π
Love this!!!
I love this!! I’m starting to let my hair grow and I can’t wait to try this. The knots seem like they will keep the hair from lying flat against the head and give it more interesting texture. Thanks for the tutorial π

With longer hair it;s always hard in the summer heat. The past few years I have been braiding one big french braid around my head to make a crown, and it works well to get all the hair up and off my neck.
I wore my hair like this today and loved it! It is my new favorite style. Thanks so much for sharing and I love your blog ALWAYS!

Beautiful and playful!

wow – i pinned it and looking forward to trying it – milkmaid braids were convenient but I looked kind of awkward – let’s see how this looks on me π
I wish I could pull off having my hair up! You always come up with the cutest ideas!

I LOVE this so much that I tried it! (Check the first picture on this post: http://bit.ly/VjO3Uk) Great post!
I tried this and I ended up looking like a Gibson girl, which was not at all the look I was going for! I don’t know how you keep your hair from poofing out on the side when you pull it upwards like that, because that is what happens to me every time I try this style or maiden braids. Maybe I was born about 100 years too late, because I could rock the Gibson girl look easily if a side poof was still in fashion!
love this! my hair is too long and thick…didn’t look this cute. on another note…where did you get the top? it’s super cute!!
Very pretty!

I did this hairstyle today and all of my students loved it! (I am a teacher in Spain) We had to spend the last part of class having a hairstyling session so they all could learn how to do it. Great style, thanks for sharing!
cute! I wonder if my hair is long enough for this. I’m still growing it out, and it is in the awkward stage.
