“Have you ever gotten extensions or a lash lift?” As a frequent wearer of false lashes (pictured above so you can compare), this is a question I got ALL the time. I’ve never gotten extensions before as they seem like they may be too hard on my overly delicate/sparse lashes and they’re pretty pricey, but a lift and tint sounded like something that might benefit me, so I decided to go for it.
After hearing a lot of great things about this technique, I decided to get my lift and tint done at Anastacia Skin Studio here in Nashville, Tennessee. My tech, Leslie, was awesome and explained everything to me in depth before she started the treatment. Start to finish, it was about 20 minutes. One thing she told me is that a lash lift is essentially a perm for the eyelashes—I had little rods on my eyelids (my lashes were glued down to them) and perming solution was applied.
The perming solution was only on my lashes for a few minutes, as well as the tint, and in what seemed like no time my lashes were quintuple their original volume. This honestly isn’t saying A LOT for me, because I have very short lashes, but on someone with more length and volume, the outcome could be VERY dramatic, probably false lash territory. By the time I had mascara on, I was in the realm of having small false lashes on. I was pretty impressed with the results overall! I was very realistic about what my natural lashes were capable of, and because of that I think I was able to appreciate the results more fully.
One of the best things about this process is that it lasts a really long time without any maintenance (the one thing Leslie recommended is that I not use oil-based products on my lashes to prolong the results). My lashes stayed how you see them in the “after” photo for a good 7-8 weeks, and then they started to fall flat pretty quickly.
I think this treatment is good for people who:
- are looking for a less expensive option than extensions (this cost $100 where I went, and it lasts for eight weeks);
- are looking for a less time-consuming option than extensions since there is no need for fill-ins;
- want to look like they’re wearing mascara all the time; and
- have reasonable expectations on what this treatment can do for their natural lashes.
The final verdict: I don’t think I would do this treatment again because I like more drama in my lashes and applying falsies is just the most convenient way (for me) to achieve that. It was also VERY hard to apply false lashes with the lift and tint because my lashes were so curly, I couldn’t really reach my lash line as easily. However, for someone with longer and thicker lashes, I think this could be really beneficial, especially if you’re trying to give yourself a break from extensions or have a special event coming up. If you’ve been on the fence about this treatment, I hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have any questions! 🙂

I love lash lifts! I’m lazy and don’t ever wear mascara, so it’s good for people like me, haha!

Thank you so much for this post! I’ve been considering a lash lift for a while now, but hearing that oil-based products will make the lift fall flat sooner already has me less interested. Also, It seems like the same result as just curling my lashes every day, which is free 😉
Thanks Keely!
I LOVE lash lifts! I got my first one just before my baby was born because I knew I wouldn’t be wearing much makeup, but didn’t want to commit to the upkeep of extensions. I’ve continued to get them as needed because, much like extensions, they help me to feel more put together even on the days I’m wearing pajamas all day. I do have fairly long, thick lashes & the effect is pretty worthwhile for me.
Good to know, it’s something I was thinking of but I see it will be money wasted on my lashes. Mine are like most of my body hair, very thin, very short and very pale (for some reason, during puberty, my ashy blond hair turned brown but my body hair (arms, legs, eyelash and eyebrows) stayed very blond. I tried extensions before with mixed results (I have very little eyelashes and they’re quite separated from one another so since you simply attach extensions to your existing lashes……it wasn’t dramatic for me, just more obvious that I had very little lashes). So falsies are the way to go when I have a special occasion. You do what works!
20 minutes, wow! I loved the effect of the lift and tint but spending over an hour with my eyes shut was too much for me to consider it as a frequent procedure for me. I am going again in prep for a vacation.
I get my lashes lifted and tinted, and I love it, but I still wear mascara on days I’m wearing makeup – I have blonde eyelashes and the tint fades faster than the lift. For me, it’s something that helps me feel prettier and more aware when I’m makeup-free, but if you’re used to wearing mascara, I don’t really consider it a replacement. (I have very long, naturally curly lashes, and they look super curly with the lift, but they don’t look thicker unless I add mascara.)
