I love this D.I.Y. by our beautiful contributor, Amanda of Indie Jane. Try this cute jewelry box with lumberjack flannel or soft floral fabric for a different look!
Supplies needed: wooden crate, cork tile, fabric, tape measure, scissors, hot glue gun, cup hooks, T-pins, sawtooth hangers.
If painting or staining your crate, do this beforehand to allow it time to dry thoroughly. These crates can often be found in antique and thrift stores, but you can also get them in various sizes at craft stores.
Step 1. Measure out the inside of the crate, and cut the cork to fit inside the bottom.
Step 2. Cut a square of fabric about an inch or so longer than the cork on each side, fold the edges back and secure with hot glue.
Step 3. Place your cork tile into the bottom of the crate. It should fit snugly! You can use a little hot glue on the bottom of your crate if the tile wiggles too much.
Step 4. Screw in a couple of cup hooks on each side. These are best for holding longer necklaces that may not fit inside the crate.
Step 5. Nail a couple of sawtooth hangers for hanging. (If your crate is on the heavier side, some sturdier hardware may be needed. I've found these work just fine.) Step 6. Hang your crate, then stick T-pins in the cork to hang necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. This is a functional yet eye-pleasing way to display all your favorite jewelry!
I love this project because it's cute, simple and functional! It's the perfect piece for a bedroom or bathroom… wherever you get ready each morning. Have fun making something pretty for your space! xo. elsie

What a cute idea. I’d probably have to add a few more hooks to the sides because my necklaces are a nasty tangle of gross right now.
Is that owl a lamp? I have a green one that looks similar, but it’s a lamp: http://oliveobserver.blogspot.com/2009/09/taking-you-on-owl-tour.html
Great repurpose, and fun art piece!

~Stop Me if You’ve Heard This One
This is actually really cool idea. We can use different materials to reach different effect to fit this to our apartment 🙂
The only disadvantage of it is that it’s too small for my jewellery :DD

This is a nice idea, I made something a bit like this over the summer except it was in a frame instead. But I’m going to try and think up something else I could use this box idea for, with blue & white fabrics to go with my favourite coastal-style.
Here’s my version ! 🙂

It’s actually not good to keep your jewellery out in the open because the oxygen tarnishes the jewellery <:D
I love this! It’s so creative (& cheap!)…I might have to replicate this – I’m always looking for better ways to organize my jewelry.
great idea:)

so cute! i think i might use lace instead of flannel… but i feel like the good thing about this project is that you could always switch out the panel depending on fluctuating moods/seasons!
This is wonderful! I have a very similar jewelry box, and when I started using it I found just seeing everything out in the open helped me to wear it! Simple & beautiful!
I love the owl which you put on your little box-shelf.
I’ve been looking for something to hang my jewelry on and still look nice. This is so neat 🙂

I really need to start being a handy woman around the house. These little house projects are so cute & makes it feel more homely rather than spending $$$ at Ikea. Thanks for the DIY tutorial `=]
Such a cute idea! I would love to make the inside fabric a floral print, love!

love this! And you can do what ever when experimenting with background fabric!!!!!
Cute! Kinda reminds me of those mini collectible spice racks I see at antique stores.
As a jewelry designer who sells stuff at boutiques, I use a picture frame and replace the board with fabric covered cork! Just another idea…

This is so adorable! But where did you get the wooden crate? I don’t live near any thrift stores, so what good, reliable website would you suggest?:)

huh? Why do you think I might be asking you? Didnt you jump in feet first with help and awnsers? If somebody has questions, and you dive in to help, how can you then turn around and say Dunno why your asking me? Thanks for your help too by the way, it has been extremely helpful, and I’m now shopping around for a new iphone, either ebay or apple directly.
iPhone now has push email similar to blarbkecry ( Had blarbkecry for 2-3 years BOLD model) Emails come to my iPhone faster than text messages without having to multi task or run an email app in the background. I believe the apple servers push the information out to the actual phone if I am not correct. I remember hearing about the technology when 4.0 OS was released. Just google it
Pushed out to the device from where? Regular pop masreirvels that dont have pushmail installed on them cant push mail to the device, so how will an iphone push mail to itself? lol I know how pushmail works, I’ve had blackberry’s for the last 5yrs+
lmao EVERYONE HAS THAT DAM ANGRY BIRDS APP!!!! except me lol. i think its so boirng .. whats so amazing about it? i do like the police app tho. my bro has that, its awesome . good vid.
I have a period of 3-4 hours bweteen the time I leave for work and my husband comes home. Is that to long for a 8wk old puppy? Should I put the crate in a small hall? ,leave the crate door open and put newspaper next to the outside door in case the puppy has to go potty? Also wouldn’t 8 hours at night be too long to keep a 8 wk old puppy confined in a crate I am getting my puppy in only a couple more weeks she will be 8 wks old. If you can answer my questions I would really appreciate it.
Todd, I don’t mean to sound like I keep harping on you, but the Smartphone soft key cheangs were dramatic ? They were more of an Oh. cool. for me.Anyway, on a more constructive note, I usually don’t see Mortscript mentioned in these kinds of lists. It’s a powerful and easy-to-learn scripting language for Windows Mobile (and Windows iirc). I use it to perform otherwise tedious tasks and to set up my phone with my customizations (CABs and Reg edits) after a wipe. It’s free.Another note, the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 seems to yield large performance and stability improvements over 2.0 and I urge you to check it out.BTW, you’re right, I’m not David Pogue.
I love the owl!!! And the project! I have a bunch of cork laying around, so I will put it to use! Thanks
I LOVE this jewelry box idea! Hi my name is Melissa and I’m the editor for FaveCrafts.com. I’d love to publish this project on our site…I think our readers would love it! You can contact me at mconner@primecp.com for more information! I look forward to hearing from you 🙂
I made one today and it is the cutest part of my bathroom now! My only suggestion to fellow crafters would be to double layer the cork and use spray adhesive to cover it in fabric. The spray adhesive helped me get a nice smooth finish! Thank you so much for the idea <3
i made one its super adorable and esay to make 😀
Fabulous! This looks amazing! These pics are unbelievably adorable! :)This is such a great blog post! Appreciating the hard work you put into your site. It’s awesome blog.
I absolutely love this post. We sell mainly handmade jewelry and were looking for something unique that could complement our jewelry. I think that your jewelry box solution is quite amazing and I would love to reference it on our blog.
Do you have specific ideas for earrings? Many clients ask us what’s the best way to store them. They get back from work, remove the earrings and leave them somewhere in the house, making it hard to find them later….I’ll keep watching out for your posts regarding some new ideas.
http://liquideal.com/
This one is really beautiful post.
i liked your idea. i would like to share my ideas for fashion and style tips at https://www.thevcollection.com/blog/cat/style-and-fashion-tips/
Thanks for sharing your valuable words
I love this creation! Made it in 3 hours for my little angel who loves accessories and jewelry.
