Earlier this year, we did a living room tour with Kacey Musgraves and we had so much fun that we decided to do one more room: her dining room.
Kacey has wedding bells in her VERY near future and so helping her to create a cozy space for she and Ruston to enjoy when they aren’t touring was really special. For most of this past year, Kacey was working on a major home renovation, planning a wedding AND writing a record. For someone so busy, she has a shocking ability to stay involved in every tiny detail.
She’s a true gem and I am excited for you to see the room we created today!
I am so, so excited with how the room turned out! First, Kacey chose some vintage rugs to layer from Apple & Oak in Nashville. Apple & Oak has a service where they bring a truck full of vintage rugs to your house and you can test them out in your actual space before you purchase, which is incredibly helpful when buying vintage rugs! 
Kacey had her stairway exposed (there used to be a wall there) and it’s so beautiful! We added a few unique plants to the edges of the stairway in a mixture of baskets and planters.
After our previous tour, Kacey decided to move her record console into the dining room area, which makes a lot of sense because listening to records while you’re cooking dinner is pretty much the best thing ever.

The main dining room fixture is the big sis to the hallway fixture. So pretty! We found two bar stools for the island that separates the kitchen from the dining room.
The dining room table is from West Elm. It was the first piece Kacey fell in love with, so we built the rest of the room around it. The live edge benches were a lucky find … they are so unique and even prettier in person!
The curtains are pretty special as well, and I love that they have tassels. We also used these rods.
For each end of the table, we chose these wishbone chairs. The shape is so pretty and I was really happy with how all the pieces blended together as a set.
As we were leaving after these photos, Kacey yelled, “IT FINALLY FEELS LIKE A HOME IN HERE.” Haha! That’s always the goal.
It takes time to create a cozy and cohesive home. When people first move into houses, they think they can just go shopping, wave a magic wand and create their dream home … but it doesn’t work that way. Creating a space that’s comfy, but not overdecorated and personalized, yet not too full of trinkets takes time. I love the concept of slow decorating … collecting over time and doing seasonal refreshes (as well as donating things you’re no longer loving). If I could give one piece of advice for people decorating their first home, it would simply be take your time.

I love the idea of taking your time to decorate. We just moved into a new little rental in Denver and I’m feeling totally overwhelmed with all the ideas we have and the limited budget. This post was a great reminder that a cohesive and cozy room takes time!

Question about the layout: I can’t tell from the pictures, but is there a room on the other side of the staircase or is it an exterior wall? My boyfriend and I are looking at options for a staircase that runs through the middle of our home & separates our dining & living areas. We originally thought about opening up the whole thing, but this is an interesting way of changing it up. Maybe you don’t know the answer, but we were trying to figure out if there was a reason the staircase wasn’t opened up completely or if this is simply the look Kacey wanted. Either way, I love it!

Elsie, I rarely comment on blogs but just wanted to say you have a serious talent and it keeps getting better. You obviously had the “Palm Springs” look down, but I’ve been so pleasantly surprised to see you branching out in other styles and how great it looks. Even the farmhouse look of your BnB dining room, which normally isn’t my style, made me think, “Wow this is so cozy but chic, I would definitely be stoked if this were my room.” Keep it up! I sense a new calling…. 🙂
