Making fun things for Lola’s nursery is one of my joys in life. Kid stuff always feels like it can be more whimsical and fun and you can do just about whatever you want! We have some pastel rainbow toys in Lola’s room (and she has a rainbow in her painted wallpaper as well) and so I thought a ribbon rainbow wall hanging would be a good compliment to the other cute pieces she already has!Supplies:
-white felt balls, large and medium
-white foamcore board
-X-Acto knife and cutting mat
-hot glue gun
-ribbons in rainbow colors (I think grosgrain ribbon works the best for this)
–glue on jewelry bails, jump rings, gold chain, and jewelry kit
First, arrange your felt balls in a freeform cloud shape on a white foamcore board (I left the bottom of my cloud more straight to hang the ribbons from). You may want to measure out how wide all your ribbons are when laid next to each other and that will let you know how wide the bottom of your cloud should be. Once you have a shape you like, take a picture of the arrangement with your phone, trace around the shape with a pencil, remove the felt balls, and then use your X-Acto knife to cut out your cloud shape. Use your phone photo to reconstruct about where each felt ball should go, and then glue each ball in place one by one. It sounds like the gluing would take a long time, but it actually goes pretty fast.Once your felt balls are in place, glue 2 jewelry bails onto the back of your foamcore and use your jewelry pliers to attach jump rings to each bail. Cut a length of chain with your jewelry cutters to attach to the jump rings (mine was about 8″ long) and connect your jump rings with the chain.Decide how long you want your ribbons to hang down from your cloud and cut 3 of each color ribbon a few inches longer than that measurement (I made mine 20″ long). Glue the tops together so they all hang in a group straight down.In color order, glue the colors across the bottom back of your cloud and make sure to reverse the order from how you want it to appear when hanging. Hang your rainbow in the spot you want it to go and then use fabric scissors to trim the ribbons at an angle with the longest ribbon in each set being the one at the back and the shortest ones being the ones hanging in the front. That’s it! You’re done! So sweet! I love that the ribbons hanging down are cut different lengths as it adds a textural feel to the bottom of the rainbow and the felt balls above look so puffy—I just want to poke them! The felt ball clouds would be a great item to add a few drops of essential oils onto to keep a delicious scent in a kid’s room as well (just keep in mind that peppermint oil should not be used around children under the age of 6 and eucalyptus oil should not be used around children under the age of 10). Kids projects are so fun and I think this one would be a great project to have the kid “help” with if they were a little older too. Have fun! xo. Laura

Ahh this is adorable! I love the gold touch you placed on the rainbow. <3 This looks very easy to make but still a terrific, cute idea for kids' decor. I think if they were at least 6 or 7 they can totally help out in making it!
Lovely idea, as always. Have a nice week! xx

This is so cute, I always love kids room decor and like to incorporate it into my adult interiors – I mean it is too cute not to right! I will definitely be giving this pretty DIY a go, maybe in more muted colours, can’t wait!
