Later this week, Emma and I are headed to Mexico for a quick vacation with our guys. This trip kick started our brains into swimsuit shopping mode. It’s not easy to find the perfect swimsuit, so I’ve gathered up a few of my favorites from this season to share with you today.
Pictured Above: 1. Love the anchor pattern. 2. I ordered this suit (top/bottom), but haven’t tried it on yet. Ordering swimsuits online is the ultimate stress, am I right? 3. I have this suit and can’t wait to wear it. It’s fun and retro, but still very comfy. 4. Loving floral prints this season (and every season, I think…) 5. This geometric print is so cute and reminds me of Emma. (top/bottom) 6. Gah- I love this design so much. 7. This is my suit from last year. It’s comfy, flattering and comes in a huge range of sizes. 8. Isn’t this print gorgeous?
Have you started swimsuit shopping? We’d love to hear about your favorites as well! xo. Elsie

I agree, it is very hard to find the perfect swimsuit that is just right for the place you are going, the perfect colour, fit and style, etc. I loooove all of the ones you have chosen here, especially the Urban Outfitters floral one and the ASOS one. Have a wonderful time in Mexico! Ruby xx
A think the best are – 5 and 8 🙂
This is so perfect! I need a new swimsuit for this year and heaven’t started looking yet. 1 and 5 must be my favourites.
I always end up going with a classic black bikini.. though I do have a Topshop peach and mint bikini that is very very cute x
I absolutely love the last one, as well as the high waisted ones!
i recently bought the anchor patterned one from j crew and i love it! it fits so well and is definitely comfortable! don’t have to worry about my bits flying around!
Number 8 is so pretty!

I bought the plain black Ester Williams one piece last year for my honeymoon and loved it! It’s the most comfortable and flattering bathing suit ever. This year (after hearing my husband and I will be heading to The Cayman Islands for his work for a year) I bought this one when it went on sale (http://www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear/bathing-beauty-one-piece-in-plum-posy) I may like it even better than the black one. 😉
I love retro swimsuit! The Asos bikini is my fave!
Arghh swimsuits.. We girls are never happy with our bodies so trying on swimsuits is my least favorite thing to do in a shop!! I live in th caribbean so finding a pretty suit that flatters my body and is shows off enough skin to get a nice tan is the impossible quest. I like my new lavender bikini though 🙂

I’ve definitely been in swimsuit shopping mode, even though I don’t have anywhere to go in one yet 🙂
I love #4 the best! I definitely need a high-waisted swimsuit in my life.

Eep I’m far too in love with the first Anchor Print all in one. Expensive though, especially seeing as I’m not going abroad this year! Sigh! Great post anyway girls thank you for sharing!

These are gorgeous! xx
I bought some high waisted bikini bottoms a couple of weeks ago in a gorgeous print, I didn’t bother forking out for the matching top because I think it’ll look good with an alternating top maybe in a block colour?
Anyway I adore the high waisted bikinis that are everywhere this season. They seem so flattering!
xx
Ooo have fun in Mexico!! I love #5! Pick that one!
http://chloemoonergo.blogspot.com
I love all of these! The swimsuite I just got is very similar to number 2. 😉 But I have a corset style top with blue & black flowers instead of just the black. You guys are going to have so much fun in mexico!!

Quiero todos!! <3
I bought #7 in red plaid last year, too. I LOVE it and it complements several body styles! Sassy but not too revealing. Expensive but for the confidence I got in return, I am so happy with it.
ahhh swim wear-the one thing I hate about summer. I have a burden, yes really a burden searching for the “perfect” swim wear. As am quite blessed ( cursed more like it) on my top half, “normal” ones dont fot well so it well a journey for me which begins months in advance. Oh and the worst part it when I finally get one, I never get the chance to wear it. *sigh* Number 3 and 6 are my fave ones. Love the zebra print.

Wowzers those are some killer gladiators. I much prefer them as flat sandals for summer and yeah most likely will be rocking them up this summer. Shakuhaci is my fave one out of the four.

Love the ones with high waists. I’m more comfortable in those.
Enjoy Mexico!
you are right …. the anchor print is very attractive ..!!

no pulling the trigger since in truth i don’t really go to the pool much, but definitely been eyeing some very lovely suits around the web–and love your pick #4
ah I LOVE the print on the anchor one! So gorgeous and fun.
4, 5 and 8 are my favorites! I love when swim suits have a unique print, especially florals!

I love number 7 and number 1! They are so pretty!
I am slim, so bathing suits are hard to find.

I love the Esther Williams swimsuits. Also, I love Esther Williams’ movies.
Ahh I love the floral bikini number 4!

I just got # 3 in the red stripes for my vacation to Barcelona! Such a flattering suit, I adore it.
Number 5 must be my favorite!
Have fun on vacation!! That sounds SO fun! I love your suit picks. It’s always so hard and this year I am going to my new husband’s family reunion in Florida (hello pressure!) and I just had a baby 4 months ago!! I’ve been looking and I think I found the perfect one! Here is my round up >> http://www.lovejoleenphotography.com/2013/03/2013-swimsuit-search.html << I think there are a few you'd really like!
ohh 4. and definetely 5. :))
#5 is more edgy, which I really enjoy! I have always wanted to go on a beach vacation, have fun!
My goal is to rock a two piece this year, something high waisted!
It is really very hard to find a good swimsuit. I like that 8. Have a nice trip.

Oh my! I was super pregnant last summer so I didn’t do much in a swimsuit. This year, I’ll definitely be purchasing my first one piece!! :] I’m glad they’ve got such cute options (love #8, also)!! Thanks for sharing!!
xoxo

I loved nr 2. I don´t have any since I gave birth to my oldest daughter (7 years ago)… Maybe I shoud order one, please let me know how it is after you tried it on!!

Lovely selection! My favourites are 1 and 4.

Thank you so much for this post <3
Swimsuit shopping is always kinda frustrating for me since I'm skinny but have rather big boobs and rarely find something that fits AND has a design I like. Thanks to you, I just fell in love with #5 and ordered it immediately 🙂
XO
I’m so excited, I bought a high-waisted black and white chevron bikini and I’m just dying to put it on!
Jillian – http://epic-thread.blogspot.com
I think these styles are great — the retro look is awesome and works with curvy girls too! 🙂
oh i love that white one! i showcased my favorite swim suits on my blog last week. anthropologie takes the cake for cutest suit 🙂 http://www.mamages.com/blog/2013/04/fallingforswimsuits.html
Nice line up – I love, love bikinis’ – so #5 is my most fave style…will have to order another one (as we live in swimsuits every weekend here)
Enjoy the vakay to Mexico…next time try Jamaica!!

This year I got a suit that makes me feel GREAT, which hasn’t happened in a long time! It’s by Fables by Barrie and fits all of my specifications:
one piece
available in a variety of sizes
supportive in the chest
adorable
I got it from ModCloth, and they were super helpful finding me the right size:
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear/to-dive-for-one-piece
I love number 5 and 7, so nice! Like number 6, but not sure about the tan lines you’d get! I need to be on a beach right now, can’t wait for the sun.
I’m a massive supporter of Athleta swimsuits. I adore high waisted pants and skirts. But when a swimsuit model is in a high waisted bikini, even she doesn’t look good. Two thumbs way down for that style.
I love the geometric print as well! Super cute options 🙂
I love number 7!
I would love to make it 😀 But will probably buy it!

thanks for the recommendation! All so pretty *_*
Ah swimsuit shopping. I went on a South American adventure right after Christmas, and of course, I needed a swimsuit.
I really, really, really, wanted the polka dot one piece suit from ModCloth, but like you said, ordering swimsuits online seemed like a huge headache (and being from Canada, and it being a swimsuit, a return was impossible). I also didn’t know if it would arrive in time for my trip.
I ended up getting a really cute bikini from Victoria’s Secret! It’s red, with white dots, and there’s a little bit of leopard print on the removable straps! Cute! Hah, I checked the website for a link but it’s not there anymore.
Have fun on your vacation! Don’t forget sunscreen 🙂
Just ordered the floral print UO suit! I’ve been looking for a good high waisted 2 piece forever. Thanks for the tip, ladies!
I’ve been eyeing that ASOS suit (#5) for a few weeks now and haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I love the black/white and the geometric pattern is modern, yet classic at the same time. Maybe I’ll go ahead and order it online and cross my fingers it fits correctly 🙂
Number 3 is my favourite!
Minnow Bathers! You have to check out minnow bathers if you’re into the vintage-inspired suits. They are a bit pricy, but they are designed and handmade by friends of mine and it is always good to support small businesses and artists! http://www.etsy.com/shop/MinnowBathers
I absolutely agree that ordering swimsuits online is a stress, but, oddly enough, my best and favorite swimsuits were purchased online.

Hi girls!
I love number 7, because it gives you a nice curvy figure… this is my first comment, but I’ve been reading and getting inspired with A beautiful mess from a long time ago.
Enjoy Mexico, you’ll be very welcome here!!
XOXO
No way! My hubs and are leaving for Mexico next Tuesday! Maybe we’ll see you there (you know, not like it’s a giant country or anything!). Haha 🙂
My favorite place to buy suits is at Lands End. They fit great, offer lots of pretty patterns and are EXTREMELY high quality! I have needed a suit for three years, which, well, ROCKS. And they come in an even bigger range of sizes great for busty gals like myself 😉
i have #7 as well. i love how it fits, though i did take mine in a little though the chest since i’m very pear shaped. 🙂
I’m loving no.1 as the shape and print is amazing! Have a great vacations girls!

I have always wanted to try a retro two piece because they look so flattering, but I have a little bit of a tummy so I am always worried about it.

I’m really starting to love the look of high-waisted swimsuits! Also, I really like J. Crew swimwear… their bikini bottoms have enough material to actually cover a bottom! 🙂

Fun! I need to do some swimsuit shopping. I have this cute bikini (from Target) but if I’m ever actually swimming in the ocean where the water is rough, my top sometimes falls off. No good.
I love number 5 and number 7! Have fun in Mexico!
These suits from Lime Ricki are TO DIE FOR. I know the two of you will love them: http://www.limericki.com/WOMEN/PARKER_BARKER?utm_source=calivintage&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=blog
I really like these! I have a question though: I’m super super pale, and I’m not keen on skin cancer so I don’t do anything about it… are there specific colors that flatter/definitely do NOT flatter a pale skin tone?
Elsie I’m so on your level with this! I just finally set myself a clothing budget and knowing that I don’t fit my old swimsuit and my resources are limited I’ve started planning for my new swimsuit. I’ve been high waisted w/halters in stripes and black and then also this one http://pinterest.com/pin/9288742954053120 A difficult decision but I think I’m going to end up going with mix and match. Black high waisted bottoms and a B&W striped halter, both from JCpenny, so pretty affordable!

every year it’s the same thing: no decent swimsuits for girls with big honkers… well, I gave up at dome point at now I wear my old polka dot bikini every summer, although I would much rather have a new one. but those you showed look lovely! maybe this year it is finally time for a new one…:)
I love the white suit with the cutout, it’s so unique!

The perfect one is always hard to find. Love the idea of the high waisted bottoms but it’s look horrible on me and most of the bikini’s do so I’m stuck at the triangle bikini 😉 xx

I just LOVE number 8!
We’re still waiting for some spring feeling. So before I go for some swimsuit shopping I would like to put my winter jacket in the very back of my closet.
But if I have to choose from your options, I would take #5.

I’m so into the high waisted bottoms lately but I haven’t yet bit the bullet. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
Hi Elsie and Emma!!!!!!
I am from México and I hope that you hace a great time here. México is very nice.
Love,

I will be going on vacation in about a month, so I guess I should start brainstorming too! This was a great place to start!
Sweet! Number1 and 4 areawesome!
I love the print on #8!! I recently found a similar print like that at Nordstrom’s and another one at Dillard’s and I am in love.
I love these retro inspired suimsuits! Great pieces.

I LOVE all of these! I’m not sure if there’s a specific term for these vintage, old-fashioned swimsuits but I have been itching to get one real soon (preferably polka-dotted). 🙂
I live in Florida near the beach so we keep swimsuits year-round. When you wear them all the time, it’s funny, but you get less body conscious. My favorite bikini is a bird-inspired theme from last year at Target 🙂
http://www.girlsandhappiness.com
Love 5 and 6! The geometric printed bikini is amazing, and I love the cutout on the white suit 🙂
http://stainsofpaint.blogspot.com/
These are fabulous – I love any suit that has a vintage vibe but is modern at the same time. I purchased this suit last year: http://us.asos.com/ASOS-Plunge-Backless-Suit/xxyxh/?iid=2081883&cid=2238&Rf-200=33&sh=0&pge=1&pgesize=20&sort=1&clr=Navyblue&mporgp=L0FTT1MvQVNPUy1QbHVuZ2UtQmFja2xlc3MtU3VpdC9Qcm9kLw..
It feels sexy and Hollywood glam – love it with a big sun hat and over sized shades. 🙂
I love Modcloth. This was the first bathing suit that I felt comfortable wearing at my post-baby size.
LOVE the retro styles!
#5 is my favourite!

My problem is always finding a swimsuit that’s built with enough support for big-chested women. If anyone has suggestions, I’d love it!
Yah for high waisted swim suits.. it means us mommas with some stretch marks can hide them and still wear a bikini!!
http://www.foundafeather.com
Hi there! Nice inspiring post as always. I just bought last month the #07 from Modcloth and for my body it is so perfect. I never felt ok in a swimsuit so I had decided to stop swimming, but I just love the water. In this swimsuit I feel so good, it is so flattering I almost feel like a 50’s pinup!
Olive xox
love the anchor print swimsuit as well:) and the dotted of course!
I adore 1, 2, and 7!! I have a thing for anchors, polka dots, and retro pin up style. Such great picks!
I love number 5. I had been looking for a good website to find bathing suits, and I loved looking at the ASOS website. I’ve found a couple that I think I’m going to get. Do you or anyone you know about how true to size that they fit?
I love 6!!! Can you please tell where you found it? 🙂
I recently lost a bunch of weight that my current swim suits don’t fit, I’m eager to go swim suit shopping 🙂 I did try on a few at Target but nothing yet. I love these though! Maybe I’ll consider online.
#2, 5 and 6 are my favourites!
i also ordered #7 from modcloth but my chest was way too small for the cup size, i was so sad cause other than that it’s gorgeous. wish we could get it customized.
