The furry stool has officially taken over the Internet! Well, at least my corner of it to say the least. I feel like every home decor store I browse has their own version, but one thing they seem to have in common is a pretty high price tag. I’ve thought I found a good one only to find their price to be several hundred or even over a thousand dollars (!!!!). Yeaaaaah, that’s not really the budget I had in mind. I like to keep mid-height stools by the window at our house so the kitties can use them to look out the window (a.k.a “cat tv”), and I thought one of those furry stools would be just the ticket to fit in with the rest of the decor. Turns out, it only took me a few minutes (and way less money) to create a stool that looks just as great as its expensive competitors!
Supplies:
– round 15″ wood board
– gold spray paint
– midcentury 16″ legs (4)
– angled leg plates (4)
– furry material
– staple gun and long staples
First, use a drill to attach your angled leg plates to the bottom of your round circle (I attached mine about 1″ away from the edge). I then gave my legs a quick coat of gold spray paint to make them look a little more expensive. Then screwed them into the angled plates.
Place your furry material under your wooden circle and cut around the circle so that you have about 3-4″ of material allowance around the wood. You can check your local fabric store for furry material options, or home stores like Marshalls and T.J.Maxx will often have faux and real sheepskins as well.
Use your staple gun to attach the material to the bottom of the stool at the four points between each leg, and then fold the excess material as needed and staple that to the bottom as well. Flip that stool right side up, and that’s it! You’re already done!
It’s kind of crazy how easy it was to create this stool because it turned out so cute! If you want a thicker looking seat, you can also add a few layers of foam cut to size between the top of the seat and the material, but I like how the height of mine came out. It’s crazy to think that I could have paid several hundred more dollars to get the same feel, but if you ask me, I think it looks like a million bucks! xo. Laura

this is beautiful! I too have been eyeing furry stools and getting sad because they are SO expensive! This looks totally doable and it looks like the kitties approve too 🙂

Love how awesome this turned out! Which gold spray paint did you use?
Knocked it out of the park, Laura! Love your version that is just as beautiful but doesn’t break the bank! (: Would love to see the other rooms in your new home and how the transformation is coming along!
Oh I love this, can’t believe how simple it is either!

?? Mandi did this exact project two years ago.
Can I say that I absolutely love this! I will definitely be making my own version. It looks so simple to do and quick! I can not wait to try this. Thanks for sharing!
This turned out so cute!! I love the pic of your kitty looking out 🙂

Can you talk about what fabric you used? is that a sheepskin? What was the cost?
Thanks
Yep! Mandi did do a similar stool a few years back. She finished hers differently underneath, added padding, and kept the wood tone legs. Mine is a quicker way to complete a larger stool with a few trend updates 🙂
Laura
It is a sheepskin, I think it was about $60-70 🙂

This is amazing!! Is the stool sturdy enough to sit on (sorry if that’s a silly question!)

Such a cool idea! Have to note it down in my scrapbook for the time, I´ll do my room make-over.
Have a great day 🙂

Oh man… I just sold one of these tables at our garage sale! 🙁
This is so fun! I’m definitely keeping this in mind for when I have some extra funds.
I definitely have to make this right meow!! Thanks for the tutorial!
I know that this is similar to a project posted a while back (I actually did want to attempt that one but it sort of slipped my mind and I ended up knitting a pouf instead), but thanks for reminding me about it! What recommendations do you have a more inexpensive (or possibly removable?) fabric choice?
The stool is so cool! http://www.hannamarielei.com
Gorgeous! I rarely DIY, but I might actually try this one.
Well done!I should learn from you.

I have the same kind of legs but much shorter. Perhaps I could make a tiny stool for a kid with them or something to put up my feet on 🙂
I want this furry stool so badly, it looks perfect with those golden legs! Very well done!

I’m good with buying just as well as making, lol, -but geez! This really couldn’t be easier! … I like the change out of the top when needed, possibility too.
That’s so cute! I loved it.
The white you choose was perfect as well! But I’m planning to make a pink one to my little sister 🙂
Tks Laura

We’re moving apartments, and this project could definitely be one of my DIYs! I just have to bookmark this post!

What a neat stool! I don’t get out shopping much, so I haven’t seen these as trends, but I can only imagine the pricetag. Before I even started reading, I saw the header picture and thought, “I have to make this for the cats.” So it looks like we were thinking the same thing – cat window seats!!! I love how simple you make this. Thanks for sharing!

I’m kind of wondering if the faux sheep skins from Ikea would work. They look nice and are really affordable. It might take more than one to pull it off, though.
It is, yes!
Laura 🙂
I would say a furry fabric (with a sale coupon) is probably the most inexpensive. You could try making a circle with an elastic band sewn around the edge for a removable furry top (basically like a shower cap sort of construction). Good luck!

Laura,
The new place is even MORE beautiful than the last! I love, love, love all the pink, white & gold. <3
This is adorable! And indeed, it looks so easy :). Also very cute with the cat sitting on it!

I need a stool for my vanity and this would be PERFECT!!! Love!

This looks amazing!!!
Do you know how much weight a stool like this could hold? Do you think this is sturdy enough for people to sit on all the time? I’m hoping so 🙂 I’d love to use it for our short breakfast bar.
I can’t believe how simple it was to make. And depending on the type of fabric you use, it could be pretty inexpensive. I love this project, Laura!
Wow! This is so easy and so fun! Totally want to try it! I need some fun and easy foot and sitting stools in my living room.

I love this!
This is so awesome! Def want to try to make one of these for my office! Thank you for sharing!
This is too freaking cute! I can’t believe how easy it looks to put together, I’m going to need one in my life now!
I LOVE this. I’m bouncing in my seat with excitement for it. Instead of making a small stool, I plan to make 4 bar stools for the kitchen counter bar dining area. Thank you for always posting amazing DIY inspo!

Hey LVB-G! It’s Niki D. (formerly S. 🙂 – I check in every once in a while over here and just thought I’d mention I’ve done this with thrift store fur coats. I’ve found some pretty awesome furs – even a crazy Chevron design. It takes avoiding a pretty expensive purchase for this girl to get crafty, but I survived the staple gun AND they turned out awesome!
omg adorable! cant wait to try this one day.
This is so pretty could be used with a makeup vanity!!
I am so making this! Thx for the step by step! I can’t believe how easy it looks!

Oh my goodness cute. And perfect idea to use it as a cat window seat. I think I might just do the same!
Oh my goodness, this is just too cute!!! And I just love it for the 4 legged kids, the fake fur will help hide their fur too. They just love looking outside, mostly at their arch enemy Mr Squirrel 🙂
Love this! These stools are so hot right now, I just love the idea of making one myself! Thanks for sharing.
