Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging

Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)
Don’t you just love a project that can be completed in under an hour but looks like it took you forever to make? This leather wall hanging just happens to be one of those projects. And the addition of the DIY gold leather pieces makes this simple wall hanging such a pretty addition to a gallery wall. Not only was it quick to put together, but it cost less than $10 to make!

Supplies:
tan tooling leather (You can find this at the craft store. Tooling leather is a stiffer leather that holds its shape well.)
-colored leather (optional, but I liked the pop of color)
hot melt adhesive sheets
gold heat activated foil sheets
-scissors
-pliers
gold jewelry eye pins
-iron
1/4″ hole punch or leather punch
-one 12mm gold jump ring

Step One: Begin by cutting shapes out of the leather pieces. Everything from crescents, half circles, circles, triangles, to rectangles works.Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Step Two: For the gold leather pieces, cut out your shape from the hot melt adhesive sheets and iron it glue-side down onto the leather on a low setting for 4-5 seconds.

Step Three: Once the hot melt has cooled, peel back the paper backing to expose the glue on the leather. Cover with the gold foil sheet and a piece of scrap fabric and iron again for another 4-5 seconds.Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Step Four: Once cool, peel back the gold foil sheet to reveal the new metallic leather, and then cut out the shapes with your scissors.Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Step Five: Once you have all your shapes cut and laid out in the pattern you like, use your hole punch or leather punch to make a hole in the top and bottom of each of the large pieces, and one hole in the thinner pieces.Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Step Six: Use your pliers to create large loops on either end of the eye pins and place the loops through the leather holes to connect all your pieces. At the top, add your large jump ring so that you can hang your new leather wall hanging on the wall.Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)Make a Simple Leather Wall Hanging (Click Through for Tutorial)I am loving the combo of metallic, colored, and tan leather, plus all the shapes help it fit in with my other geometric gallery wall pieces. I even think this would look great if you made several to create a hanging mobile as well! xo. Kara
