With two young kids, I love finding and making healthy snack foods because it seems like they are always hungry! Fresh fruit is always an easy go to snack and we all love Wonderful Halos because not only are they easy for the kids to serve and peel themselves, but they are so sweet and juicy. I love having a bowl of them on our kitchen table that the kids can grab whenever they are hungry. As a special treat, I will even turn a few into mandarin cream popsicles with granola. My kids love them because they think they are getting a special naturally sweet treat (especially when I let them eat them for breakfast), and I love them because they are a simple and healthy snack. We’ve teamed up with Wonderful Halos mandarins to share the recipe for these mandarin orange cream popsicles that are good for breakfast, snacks, or as a slightly sweet after dinner treat.
Mandarin Orange Cream Popsicles (makes 10 standard sized popsicles)
7 peeled Wonderful Halos Mandarins
16 ounces vanilla greek yogurt
Granola pieces (optional)
Popsicle mold and popsicle sticks
Begin by peeling your mandarins, then puree in a blender or food processor. Next, add a spoonful of pureed mandarins into each popsicle mold and then add a spoonful of vanilla yogurt. Continue layering the two until there is a 1/2″ gap at the top of the mold. Fill this gap with granola, pressing it down into the yogurt. Then add your popsicle stick and freeze for 4 hours or until solid. Run the mold under hot water to unmold the popsicles to serve.
I kept my layers fairly separate because I love the contrast of the citrus and the creamy vanilla yogurt, but you could always mix the pureed mandarin oranges and yogurt for a more well blended popsicle.
The best part is that while kids are sure to love them, they make a great grown-up snack, too. I may have been caught eating one or two after taking these photos! The contrast of the bright and juicy Wonderful Halos mandarins with the creamy yogurt is the perfect combo. And once you add in that crunchy granola, it’s like a smoothie bowl in frozen popsicle form! Yum! xo. Kara

I used to make (unhealthy) orange popsicles when I was younger by freezing orange juice. Citrus fruits are my favourite (with oranges at the top), so I’m definitely making these popsicles! Can’t wait for summer now! 😀

I read this blog every day and I hardly ever make anything, but I had this made and in the freezer within 10 minutes of seeing this post! The kids can’t wait for them to freeze!

Great reciepe also looks healtier thanks to yogurt. At here we call this turkish yogurt. Anyway it doesn’t matter and maenwhile you can prepare your own yogurt at home. Much much better than sweetened and processed ones sold at super market departments. I highly recomment preparing your own yogurt. As a european i wonder where can i find those popsicle mold(s) bu i’ll definetely try for this summer. Thanks for great idea.
I also love mandarines. And I really want the same mold u use as they r more traditional looking. Can u suggest please?
These look yum!
How very smart!
Where did you get your popsicle molds? I like using the wooden sticks instead of plastic.
I got the mold on Amazon. Just search popsicle mold.
Definitely heading into the kitchen right now to make these with my kids!

Would regular oranges work for this? Where I live there are no mandarians. ????
Thanks so much!
Julie
Yes, but you may want to add a bit of honey to sweeten the orange puree first.
These look so good and spring appropriate I like that they are healthy too!
So yummy and really healthy
I could eat this all day
Thanks for sharing this recipe. It’s a must try for me.

What a terrific idea and recipe! We always have halo’s in the kitchen, and sometimes a few get over-ripe.
Blending the over ripe halo’s in our Vitamix to make juice is something we’ve always done. But I’ve never thought about making healthy popsicles with them!
The first batch was good but not a hit with the kids. So the second batch I didn’t add the granola, and it was a success. This will be great in the hot Texas summer coming up!
looks very nice, very suitable to be enjoyed during the summer 🙂

I love this! The white looks great, and I love the seventies vibe in a bright space.

Hi, love your recipes! I made these, but was wondering how to freeze popsicles without ending up with little icicles, I just want a smooth end result, not with crunchy, icy pieces. I tried my second batch by putting the mixture in the fridge to be colder, and putting the mold in the freezer, but no difference.
