I'm probably the only person left who hadn't tried out ice cube coffee. The concept is simply enough: brew some really strong coffee, let it cool, pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it to use in homemade ice coffee or fancy treats. This morning I made an easy Mocha Chip Frappe by blending together: 4 coffee ice cubes, 2 scoops chocolate ice cream, a small handful of chocolate chips and 1/3 cup milk. Next I'm going to try a vanilla version with caramel! Do you like making your own homemade coffee treats? Have a favorite you'd like to share? xo. Emma

Ooh! I can’t drink the Starbucks stuff, but I have coffee ice cubes and chocolate Swedish Glace in the freezer. I might have to test this out. 🙂
My kids will love you for this.

YUM! This looks delicious! I’m definitely going to have to try this since frappuchinos are my favourite drink in the summer 🙂
I like my coffee hot, even when it’s 100 degrees out. But what a nice treat for Hubby! I’ll definitely give this a try.
I made something similar to that once, minus the ice cream. Instead I used chocolate syrup, and I added a banana! Loved the flavor.
omg that sounds SOOO good. maybe next time blend some oreos in there for good measure? =)
or some coconut?

That sounds so delish! And it’s about that time for cold coffee. Soon enough it’ll be way too hot around here for hot coffee!

Just the other day I poured some coffee in trays to make cubes! Haven’t tried anything with them yet, so this came just in time! Yay!
You’re not the last person- I’ve never heard of that, but it sounds awesome! What kind of blender do you have? Mine is bad at blending ice cubes (and so is every blender my family has ever owned).
Great idea! I’ll try it lateron 🙂
Great Blog Elsie and Emma 🙂
I’ve never made a coffee drink like this… looks sooo good though ! I may just need to try it!

Yum! Can’t wait to try this out. Love the idea of freezing coffee.
Love the idea! I wanna do it with tea.
Em, have you ever tried cold brew? Same concept, just no chance of that awful burnt coffee taste. It’s our summer staple.
I do!
Chocolate chip frappe is my favourite, but have you tried Baileys Milk Shake?
I don´t have the exact proportions now, but vanilla icecream, Icecubes, Bailieys (and I think a small amount of espresso and or sugar after taste)
btw: do you have tip for a good blender? I broke one making this milkshake… and need to get a new lid or just a new one.
You know what I used to do as a child? My grand father would buy me these soda pops in a variety of flavours (he would buy crates of it and they were in glass coca bottles). So in the summer I would get the hand blender and make “milkshakes”. I would scoop vanilla ice cream in a bowl, add soda pop (orange crush, rootbeer or cream soda) and a whole lot of sugar (which it didn’t even need of course) and make my fizzy “milkshakes”. Grand pa would just stare at me and shake his head with a smile on his face.
wow, that’s a pretty cool idea. I’d never heard of that either. sounds like a milkshake with a kick. they sell iced coffee in half gallon cartons now, but it scares me a little. i’d rather brew at home.

This will be so cost effective for me! I have been going to happy hour all week at Starbucks.

YUM!! I think it’s time I try this 🙂
Just made this, it is seriously delicious.
It’s quite the concept to freeze coffee into ice cubes for ice coffee! I really like that idea – whenever I make ice coffee it always gets so watered down.

mon amy
This looks so yummy 🙂 I’m going to have to try this! I love the javachip from Starbucks- this looks just as good and cheaper! Thanks for sharing!

O MY GOSH. o my gosh. Thank you.
ooohh that looks amazing! And that idea of freezing coffee is brilliant. I don’t know why I never considered that. I always blended coffee with ice and it turns out too watery. I will have to try that. If you like mint chocolate, you should get mint extract and put a couple drops. Tastes just like peppermint patties.
I looooove making fraps at home but mine always separated after a few minutes. I read somewhere that if you add a pinch of xantham gum to your frap, it acts as a bonding agent and the ice + liquid don’t separate! It was like a miracle. 🙂
om nom nom this looks amazing!! x

This is the BEST iced coffee recipe ever. I have it pretty much everyday. Hope you try it because it’s amazing.
1 instant coffee packet
2 stevia packets
3/4c water (heated in the mircowave 18 seconds)
stir everything together then add
1/4c almond milk or soy milk
2T Torani SF vanilla syrup
1t creamer (my favorite is almond joy)
Oh my, this looks so very good!
My favourite frappe to make is definitely vanilla chai. You just add the chai powder when blending the ice, then put the milk in.
Sooo good!
Wow! That looks amazing. I am definitely going to give it a try 🙂
It sounds delicious!
I have a bunch of cubes frozen in my freezer right now. I wasn’t sure how to use them but this sounds perfect. Thanks!

This idea is genius, I can’t believe I’ve only heard of it now! I am definitely going to try this out but with vanilla flavored almond milk instead of regular, yum (:
Where do you get glass jars and straws like that? I think they would be super adorable for my sister’s baby shower, I love this blog, I am constantly getting inspired with each visit! (;

I actually just tried out the Mocha Cookie Frappucchino earlier today. I’m usually into more simple (and less sugary) coffee drinks, but I’ve been mixing up my own version of an “iced mocha” since I figured it out.
I shared my Dark Chocolate Iced Coffee recipe over on my blog:
http://girlwiththelittleblackcat.blogspot.com/2012/04/dark-chocolate-iced-coffee.html
You can also make ice brewed coffee by letting the grounds seep over night from room temp water, this changes the strength and acidity of the coffee and produces a slightly sweet coffee all on its own.
I cold-brew iced coffee overnight, so there’s always a pitcher in my fridge. I’ve been making homemade mint simple syrup to with it – it sounds weird, drinking mint coffee, but the mint really brings out the cocoa notes of the coffee and it’s like drinking an Andes mint! 🙂
Hey, I just made this this morning for my mom – you know, it being Mother’s Day and all – and she loooooved it! I didn’t do anything different; I’m a plain jane :). Thanks so much for the recipe, Emma! Have a great day!
Love,
Ella
Looks to good not to try! :))

Frapes. I added one mint chocolate ( after eight) in it and it makes it different and good too.

Followed the directions and made a cup for myself and one for my boyfriend before he headed out this morning. T’was delish!!! Thank you for sharing, I love all your creativity!!!
I make mine kind of big—and split them with my husband. I do about a tray of coffee ice cubes, or 8 coffee and a few water. Then I add cappacino (sp?) or frapp powder, caramel sauce (like for ice cream) and milk. I often use Silk or another flavoured non-dairy milk (vanilla/coconut/almond). Vanilla silk adds a nice flavour.
ñam! delicious! i need to try it now!! ^ _ ^
Wow..! I’m gonna try this!

Looks delicous~ totally trying it!
May I say something? Cold coffee is called freddo (e.g. espresso or capuccino). In order for a coffee to qualify for the name frappe (around here at least) it has to be cold AND shaken (that’s what frappe means). An easy frappe is instant coffee, sugar to taste, little bit of milk and ice cubes, whizzed up in a food processor (that’s the best shake one can ever achieve) and TA-DA, there’s your FRAPPE 🙂
This was delicious. Can’t wait to see the vanilla caramel version!
i’m going to miss this in Germany.
Yum, definitely making them today. Thanks for the daily inspiration. Just one question were do you get all the lovely jars you use?? 🙂
I love making my own homemade treats!
My favorites are: 3 scoops of cappuccino ice cream, 3 ice cubes and 1/3 cup of International Delight Iced Coffee.
The iced coffee is delicious, but since it’s a little too sweet on it’s own, i added it to a milkshake and it was fantastic!
Decorative trays
so beautiful! looks so comfy!
