decorating my loft has been a lot of fun, but creating a ‘cozy’ atmosphere for the Holidays is actually really challenging in such a large open space. last night i finished up this little nook in my studio and i feel like it really captures that warm & cozy Holiday mood…
i learned to make finger knitted garland last weekend from Katherine [see her tutorial here]. this is a great ‘all ages’ craft project. i wish i had a daughter to teach it to right now. π so much fun. i hung it on my wall and added instant photos with clothes pins.
i am really excited to finally own a (working.. haha) record player. i’ve been playing my Jenny Lewis record… it’s my favorite.
what are you doing to stay warm, cozy and inspired?
XO. elsie

how do you like the record player?? i might ask for it for christmas but it got some so so reviews.
your garlands look so cute with the photos hanging on them!
it has been freezing, so i have been in bed with the heated mattress pad on crocheting cowls all morning. i’m having a “creative rush” right now and am trying to take full advantage!
hugs
carrie, i like it a lot but i’ve only had it for like 2 days, so i probably shouldn’t review it yet. π
XOXO.
I just put on my sweater and jeans. I feel all nice and toasty right at the moment.
Last night I dug out my felt to make some goodies.
loving the finger garlands! i made some last night in fuzzy white yarn and i was thinking it would look cute with xmas cards pinned on. my guy told me he used to make them when he was a kid…so cute.
It looks so amazing and lovely!!!
Thanks to you and your picture over Twitter i learnt how to do finger knitting and did some pretty garlands for my big Christmas tree.I don’t have a daughter,so i taught my mum how to do it,as she only knows the normal knitting. Now we’re getting to buy more yarn to do more garlands to the bottom of the tree,it needs to be huge.
Thanks so much,Elsie!
beautiful space!!
xo
Love this!! I really need to organize my yarn like you have yours. My skeins are currently jammed into a drawer and I have no idea what’s lurking at the very bottom underneath it all.
Plus, woo finger garlands! I used to make them all the time when I was little π
tub. it’s my favorite place in the world. (besides bed and wherever the boyfriend is ^^) a hot bubble bath is sooooooooo great.
i’m just taking a bath in some minutes, maybe that’s why i’m thinking about this.
we used to do the finger knitting thing a lot when i was at school…. think i need to do it again xD
hee. fair enough. π i will wait eagerly to hear what you think about it after a while longer.
You’ve gave me a great idea for my classroom.Thank you! xoxo
um… is that a PEZ DISPENSER TREE?!?!?! so. freakin. awesome. (i have a little collection too, but not on my tree – good idea!)
i’m going to snuggle up with my mister and fur baby this weekend, drink gingerbread hot chocolate and watch christmas movies π
The pillow-like start makes for super comfy feel. Very cute nook.

ps.
Lovely blog you have here.
cute cute!
so cute! i’ve got to try the garland that you mentioned, it looks like so much fun!
love it! I’m sitting here with yarn wrapped around my fingers! Thanks for the pointer towards the tutorial, I am now addicted! What thickness yarn works best? x

Love it!!! π Brought back such lovely memories of finger knitting as a girl. I have an unfinished garland in my room right now and have been wondering what to do with it. The pics are a marvy idea! π
-drinking lots of tasty coffee
-snuggling under my down comforter
-wearing my knitted slipper boots (pink and orange, thankyouverymuch π )
-dreaming of the next batch of ruffles I’m going to sew.

Adorable! I love your stuffed tree topper and the way you’ve used your garlands. Really cute and clever.
My craft room is pretty much unusable at the moment, sadly! It’s on the corner of our building and has two walls of windows – I love that feature most of the year, but right now it is FREEZING in there. I’ve been crafting on the sofa in front of the christmas tree instead. Cozy!
love the garlands! I might make some tonight π
we have this super HUGE amazing thrift store in the area…I’ve been going to grab a few cute little christmasy things…Since they dont have full nativity scenes I have been collecting bits and pieces of what I find π
mismatched ones
love it
I’m studying abroad in Spain currently so I’m away from my home and all the fun holiday decorating. I wanted to do something special but I’m on a constrictive budget so I decorated my desk using recycled paper π Here’s a picture:

Also all my Christmas cards this year were made with paper I found, flyers, posters, and brochures around Barcelona…they turned out really cute!
Warm and toasty?….along the coast we are trying to let everyone else’s weather bring us a winter feel, as we stack seashells in a glass container for a present. Maybe if I put a couple of ornaments in with them, they will feel all Christmasy? Love the knitted finger garland, I so remember these from middle school (that doesn’t date me to much, does it?) My sweet girl and I are going to make some this weekend….it will happen for you one day…..all good things come
I have the same record player from UO. Isn’t it amazing? Oh, and I heart Jenny Lewis too π
I loved making the finger knitted garland, so easy and relaxing. I actually made some for my Christmas tree this year. I love it, and will definitely end up making more. π
Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever finger-knitted before – I must add that to the list of things I want to do soonly – looks fun!
I need to get a new record player soon, my vinyl is so sad just sitting there, getting dusty!
It’s very cold here right now, but sunny & clear & beautiful. I’ve been on a hot chocolate bender lately, lol! They have a wonderful assortment of about 7 different flavors you can buy at Costco – delightful!
Stay warm! <3

awww… my grandma taught me to finger knit when i was little. i was going to make garlands for the tree this year (before the dogs decided to knock over the tree, lol.) they look great as wall hangings.
love your knitting garland with the clothes pins- I think I’m going to do the same with our Christmas cards! Perfect solution π
hi there! I absolutely adore your blog! it’s so inspiring. I just wanted to let you know I added a button on my sidebar linked to you, which you can find here: http://www.jenniferbirge.blogspot.com
Keep up your amazing creativity π
xo, jen
I love it-so cozy!
Wow! I definitely want to try finger knitting since I’m still pretty clumsy using knitting neddles.
Your Christmas space is so charming, my favourite part is that giant star at the top of the tree.
When it’s cold outside (and inside, brrrrrr!), I find inspiration sipping tea in one of my favourite mugs (I have too many), reading nice blogs and dreaming awake π
Have a creative weekend!
Elsie,
My 12 year old daughter makes the finger knitted things all the time, now I have something else to do with them – garlands! great idea. she likes to wear them as scarves, and the dogs do too! :>) Thanks for all your great pics and ideas and Merry Christmas!
yummy coffee, a great fire, and loads of crafts: knitting, painting, and making ornaments. I love the holidays!!!
Love Jenny Lewis! It’s not too cold here, but we are feeling Christmasy with our holiday music, tree, and nightly hot chocolate. mmmm.
