Lately, I have been working on finding ways to add extra storage to our next space. For the first few months we lived in this home I had my makeup bag sitting on the couch, near this mirror where I get ready every morning. I knew I had space for a small side table, but sometimes it takes a little while to find the perfect one. Here's how I restyled a secondhand table into something beautiful and useful for everyday life!I started out with this not-so-amazing plain red table that I picked up at a local flea market. I started painting it with mint paint and quickly realized that it wasn't going to work in our bedroom (we have teal couches up there—don't wanna be too matchy-matchy). So I gave it a quick coat of Kilz primer and then painted it with gold craft paint (found in the craft paint aisle at Hobby Lobby). The gold paint was very thin, so the primer coat was essential. Even with that, it took 3-4 coats of gold paint to get an even finish.
Side note: I never thought of myself as much of gold person, but recently it has been sneaking into my home left and right. I blame Emma's influence for this. She's a crazy gold lady.Next, Emma retrofitted a couple pieces of wood into the bottom section of the table so that it had a second shelf! I ordered three small storage baskets for the bottom shelf. I like the look of the table better with the extra shelf and baskets, but the added storage is the big perk. Now I have a table I love that fulfills an organizational need too. It's the perfect spot for getting ready every morning. I love having all of my daily makeup at my fingertips and appreciate the extra baskets for things like scarves and sunglasses that can be easily misplaced. I'm naturally messy and this set up works really well for me.xoxo. Elsie

love the look. I love the wire baskets. i can’t seem to get enough of them myself. 🙂
I love the wire baskets, where did you get them?
Love the organized set-up! I love things to be where I can see them but not messy so this is an ideal solution!

Really cute! I might need to do something like this in my entry way. It would be great to have a space to put baskets for my magazines (like you have done) and for keys and misc items that always seem to pile up on my dining room table!

I love the gold! And those metal baskets!
Do you have a source for those?
I would find it difficult to do my makeup like that, with a table in front of the mirror, but that’s because I’m 5’3″ and nearsighted. I have one of the 3 tier metal trolleys from ikea in my bathroom with my makeup on the top.
Where abouts is this in your house? Your bedroom? I love the idea of having a cute side table in our hallway for things like this, as our bedroom is too small. Will take these notes and file them, thanks!
quite nice! good job!

Super smitten with this simple, chic DIY! It’s amazing how much a fresh coat of paint can really transform an old piece of furniture. And it’s gold at that! Dying.
I seriously need to make myself a table! We’ve been in our house over 2 years and I still have my makeup on the floor inn our room in front of a big mirror…good gosh!
Lovely table! Gold has been sneaking into my life a lot lately too 🙂 I love those wire baskets as well
It looks so cute. I’ve been finding that gold is sneaking into my room in a lot of places too. It’s such a pretty accent color!

I love this! I will totally be looking into trying to make something similar when I move in March. I’ll have to downsize my make-up I think, but that’s a good thing because I have a lot and I rarely use any. It tends to make clutter with random lipstick/foundation/shadow in odd places of the apartment.

Yes. I fully agree: you guys make gold look great. And, I would have never thought that the chrome baskets would go so well with the gold table. I am so thankful for sites like yours that are brimming with eye candy and beautiful inspiration!
love the style and the storage ideas. I need a little something like this for my make up and love all the perfume bottles on display!
Soooo cute! I’ve painted a lot of furniture last year, but only white and green .. WHY didnt i think of gold? It looks so, so good! Lots of love,

I love the gold and this DIY in general, definitely something that fit into my work space. Thanks for sharing!
I’m a crazy gold lady too! I’m glad it’s becoming more in style these days, it’s a lot easier to find things since I don’t do silver (most of us are on one side or the other huh?). This is a great project, I have a lot of shabby side tables that need an update.

Congratulations on great makeover! The table looks fabulous and the baskets add a little industrial feeling.
We have an old table in a dining space. We got it from the owners of the flat we rented a year ago. I’ve had a few ideas how to paint it but it hasn’t been THE idea yet.
Cheers!

I love gold when it’s subtle, I think it’s a beautiful accent to other colors. Very inspiring! Thank you for this 🙂
It’s clearly the season to be making over as I’ve spent the weekend making over odd bits of furniture. The gold table looks lovely!
Great table, I love it.

Love the gold!
Love it! Such a nice gold, not too yellowish! Cute way to add some subtle glamour to a room 🙂
I love the idea of gold furniture! I have a bookshelf that I just might have to do this to!
it looks so incredibly pretty!
For future gold paint projects: Martha Stewart has a line of metallic paint at Home Depot. There are about 5 shades of gold they can mix for you. I painted over a disgusting neon orange and only needed two coats even without primer!
This is such a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing!
Hope you can drop by at PIXELS AND TALES!
I love posts like this that give me little glimpses into you and Emma and your precious differences!
How gorgeous! I love DIY projects. I actually just put one up on my blog that may go well with this setup- jewelry storage on the wall!

This is such a fantastic idea. I think I may re-appropriate a side table I have for a make up table station closer to natural light.
Wow, that is one of the most amazing diy renovations I’ve ever seen! I’m definitely going to save this in my pinterest, and bookmark it, so that I don’t forget to try this on my next piece! It’s looks amazing! 🙂

Fantastic tutorial! I picked up four pieces of furniture from an auction recently (£1 for all four!) and there is the perfect little side table that would look amazing in gold!
This looks great! We recently did a similar makeover with a 1960’s brick fireplace which was light and dark grey, whipped out a tin of gold paint and transformed it, I love it now, really unique and fits in better with our modern retro styling.
Oh, my GOD!!!! That is beautiful!!! So easy to transform! Great job you did here…thanks for posting this…now I have to find the table ;-))

The extra shelf is a great idea! I never used to think of myself as a sparkly-gold-lovin’ person but when I moved into my current home I noticed all the lamps and picture frames I was drawn to had gold through them; I love the little shimmery touches around the room.
Awesome! I need something like this in my life. Thanks for the idea! 🙂
This turned out very beautiful.
Love, love, LOVE this! Very cute and creative way to organize!

Gold makes everything better. 🙂 have a great weekend.

I have been falling in love with gold lately, too! I love more of the antiqued gold color. I am finding I am buying more and more gold jewelry lately.
