As you can probably guess I am an avid reader of MANY food blogs. I love them! And right now most of my favorite food bloggers are posting about healthy recipes. I think the sentiment is, "we ate too much for Thanksgiving so let's take a break and make something light this week." Which totally makes sense. I think that is how any sane person would feel. But me, well, I just want to bake cinnamon rolls.
Let me explain.
I always make cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. Last year I made apple cinnamon rolls, and I'm already (apparently) thinking about it for this year. I've already started my Christmas shopping/making, and it's got me in the mood, I guess. So I decided to try combining my love for cinnamon rolls with my love for Nutella. (Did you know I LOVE Nutella? I try not to buy it very often because I love it a little too much, if you know what I mean.)Nutella Cinnamon Rolls, makes 10-12
3 tablespoons warm water
3 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup milk (I used whole, but any kind is fine)
2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cup flour
1 cup Nutella
3-4 teaspoons cinnamon
In a small bowl stir together the water and sugar. Stir in the yeast and allow this to activate for 5-6 minutes (it should foam slightly).
In a small pot melt the butter. Add the milk and allow to warm through.
In the bowl of your mixer (or just a large bowl) combine the flours and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture, the milk mixture and (with the dough hook attachment) stir/knead until well-combined and dough becomes slightly elastic. Form into a ball, place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and allow to rise for 1 hour. (Or until doubled in size.)
Roll dough out into a large rectangle. Spread on the Nutella! Evenly sprinkle on the cinnamon. Roll up and cut into 10-12 rolls and place in a buttered pan. Cover and allow to rise for another 30-40 minutes. Bake at 375°F for 28-30 minutes.
I also made a simple glaze out of melted butter and powered sugar. But because these are so sweet I actually think they are best served hot with little slab of butter. Let the butter melt into the roll just before eating. Oh, and milk is a must. xo. Emma

This must be perfection in a dish. And nutella? I’m guessing when you buy it, the only other thing you need is a spoon. Yep. Me too 🙂

You, my dear, are a genius! I love Nutella a little too much, as well, and hardly ever buy it because of that fact. However, I have a Christmas party coming up with a mom group of mine and will be making these for sure! Since I wanted to make some sort of cinnamon roll anyway. These will be perfect. <3
They look divine! not a great post to read when you are hungry though.
I just came across this recipe in Bon Appetit for homemade Nutella spread as part of their DIY holiday gift section in the December issue. Thought I should pass it along.

Oh YUM! My husband would love these! Thanks for sharing. And yes, milk is for sure a must!
Obsessed with Nutella! I was inspired by one of your pancake recipes, and I am going to attempt nutella stuffed pancake pops. But I am also obsessed with cinnamon rolls – always a little intimidated to make my own dough though! Pillsbury isn’t a bad substitute.

these look delicious and yes, i ABSOLUTELY know what you mean by saying you’re not buying it too often. i have the same “problem” with peanut butter (maybe it’s because nutella is german and peanut butter is american? who knows…)

I think I just died! Honestly those look incredible and very not good for me. Can’t wait to make these.
Please don’t eat Nutella; make your own (for example like this; http://www.rulesofgreen.com/2012/08/homemade-nutella.html)!
Nutella contains Palm Oil; Palm Oil plantations contributes to deforestration of rainforest in Indonasia.

You mentioned in the article that last year you made apple cinnamon rolls. Those sound so good and perfect for this season. Could you post the recipe?
Get out of here!! These are definitely going to be made before too long. I LOVE Nutella and I love cinnamon rolls. Could there be a better combo?
I NEED to do this, seriously! Yum!
OMG! I am So trying to veganize this! Looks amazing!
These look amazing…
I try to make it but I forgot to be carefull with the baking time, so it was burned and dry. But good!
I’ll try another time 😉
Thks for the receipt!!
Another easy one is to make your dough and let rise, knead, etc. When you roll it out, spread your choice of frosting on it. (I used lemon when I tried this recipe) Roll up like cinnamon rolls and slice. Let rise and bake like normal and after baking turn pan upside down to put rolls on plate. They are pre-frosted with whatever flavor of frosting you used.
Going to do this for this Christmas, thank you!
Oh my gosh! I think I just died and went to Heaven!!! Must make these NOW!!!
Lisa
Hm I just made these but vegan style (substituted butter for earth balance margarine, cow’s milk for almond, and homemade style nutella). They are good, and a nice soft texture. However, they are not sweet. I was wondering if perhaps after salt, it’s meant to say 1 1/2 c of sugar considering there was no other sugar added other than to prestart the yeast. I may try them tomorrow with the sugar, cause I’m sure these puppies I just baked will be devoured anyway! Thanks for the recipe. Cool site!
Hi emma, can the dough be premade before christmas morning so on christmas eve then put in the fridge/left in a warm place? Also i love your nutella cookie recipe it is a firm favourite in my house! x
http://illuminatedteapot.blogspot.co.uk
Sounds great and i can make it with my girls
Me again! I tried it and the dough can be made in advance! but i agree with kizat the dough definitely needs more sugar!
http://illuminatedteapot.blogspot.co.uk
Thanks for the recipe. I tried for my X-mas morning, and it indeed changes everything. Maybe the beginning of a tradition 🙂
These look delicious. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to make these soon!
