i've decided it's love. the fuji instax mini is probably the best 'just-for-fun' purchase i've made all year. it's super small (always in my purse) and it takes adorable little credit card size photos that look like baby polaroids. i deliberated whether or not i should purchase one all summer, so i just thought i should let you know that i think it's totally worth it for those of you who have been considering adopting one too. they're too cute!
here are a few of our photos from this week. we've had tons of fun documenting our little trip with a new plastic camera.
by the way, polaroid photos, are still extremely special and dear to my heart. i am still paying silly money for packs of film on eBay. i was very happy to add an instant camera to my collection that had lower film prices (.60 to .70 cents per photo instead of $2). it's good for variety and much smaller, but i don't see this new camera as 'taking the place' of classic polaroid photos in any way. :) XO.
ps. here's something cute i made today. i spray painted some thrifted owls for the Sleeping At Last merch table. π
matches their gorgeous album cover….
and if you're in the mood to hear some new albums, you can listen to their entire album right here ('Chandeliers' is the song that Mr. Larson contributed string parts to.. so pretty!) enjoy! Els

aw i’m soo excited the cameras are as great as they seem! i’ve wanted one for months, and can’t wait to own one someday! may i say those owls are THE most special idea EVER. you amaze me lady.:) and that album is the most beautiful thing i’ve heard in a while! can’t wait until their tour!
“Chandeliers” is my fave on the album!!! I listen to it over and over! I didn’t realize Jeremy did strings on that one! Awesome!
I can’t wait to be able to buy one of those fun little cameras for my own someday soon! Looove!!!
xoxo
i too just have to comment on how gorgeous your hair looks in that top photo! It’s stunning!!! (ditto what molly said)
And the camera is super cute, it looks like chocolate! I think if i got one it would end up with nibble marks on the corners O.o
psst they sell fuji instax mini film and polaroid film, in-store, at urban outfitters, well at least in sacramento they do.
Love your blog, your art, and your style, Elsie! Saw this and it seemed right up your alley (except that it isn’t vintage).

wow. your hair in that first photo is amazing. so very audrey π
I just bought the Mio! So, soon I shall also be taking instax.
I’m so glad you talked about how the Instax compares to Polaroids! I’ve wanted a cheaper source of instant photos for awhile now (like you said, not as a replacement, of course), but haven’t heard from any polaroid users where these new cameras stand.
I’ll be ordering one soon. Thanks so much!
wow, yea that looks super fun ;D long live polariods <3
whoa! didn’t realize fuji added a bunch of new colors. I have the white one, it was a tough call between the white & chocolate. got it earlier this summer and
the little dude went over gangbusters at the highline park in nyc.
it’s very satisfying to hear buzzz and watch it pop out the top.

Adorable, now on my wish list!
I am sooooo pleased that you did get it! Makes me so happy that I decided to show mine to you :). I still love mine. It is so cute!
Ha!! We must have something in common, I spray painted about 6 owls black and white, about a year ago for my living room… I LUV THEM!!
Elsie – love the instax but where ever did you get it? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing Sleeping at Last. So incredible. I just bought the album from iTunes and post the link on twitter and facebook. I LOVE the arrangements.
I think you can get one of these cameras on ebay.
I’m still thinking whether I should get it or not since the film is still a bit pricy for a poor student like me…but the photos are so adorable! Btw the owl drawing is so beautiful!
Love your Hair!!! totally adorable!!
iΒ΄m wishing you a relaxed Weekend and ALL the Best π
Someone else said what I was going to say about the first photo being very Audrey Hepburn. This possibly has to be one of my favourite posts – cameras and owls all in one! They are my two of my big obsessions right now xx
the show tonight is in Chicago at Park West. hope some people can make it out! π
i got my camera and film from EBay. It’s also available at UO.
XOXO. Els
i clicked the link but it doesn’t give a retail price. where did you buy yours? those cameras are so super cute! love to own one! π
GUSSY
I have been doing the whole “debating in the brain” thing, wondering if I should slurge and get one of those darning little cameras. I held it in my hand for the longest time at Urban Outfitters but then I put it down. This post is the little nudge I needed, thanks.
how did you get the top photo to look so retro?

I want one so badly.
Hi Elsie! I am so happy to read this post about your instant camera. my daughter wanted me to buy her an older polaroid at a yard sale for 3.50 and i told her no b/c you cant get the film for it anymore (excepts online) and its too pricey for a teenager who just takes random shots. this would be a GREAT Christmas gift!! Thank you so much! i just LOVE your blog! =)
