I used to bring my own grocery bags to the store with me all the time (yay!!) until I got too lazy and couldn’t remember to either put them back in the car once unpacking them or actually take them inside the store to begin with (boo!!). I’ve been feeling a bit guilty about it lately, so I’m going to try and get back to the whole reusable bag thing…and what’s the most motivating way to remember to take my bag in? Why, make an adorable bag of course! Puns count for extra points as well…
Supplies:
-wool felt
–plain canvas bag
-fabric scissors
-fabric glue
For this design, I just traced and then cut out letters that are about 3-4″ tall. If you don’t feel confident free handing your own letters, just find a bold font you like on your computer and print out the copy so you can use that as a guide to trace onto the felt with a marker. Just make wavy lines instead of straight ones for the “kale” letters.
On the back of each letter, add a thin layer of fabric glue that goes almost to the edge. Leave a little room from the edges so that the glue can smush out a bit when you press it down without leaking out the sides. Press each letter in place and let the glue totally dry.
See? How easy was that?? Now you’re ready to go shopping!
Too cute! Since I probably won’t be able to fit my bigger grocery runs into this one bag, I’ll probably make a few more bags to take along with me. It’s a good thing these are so quick to make! Hmm, let’s see, what other puns can I do? Beet it? I love you berry much?? Give peas a chance??? Looks like I’ve got some work to do! xo. Laura

This is really cute! I love the idea of using felt to dress up a tote bag. Easy, but such a fun, bold effect.

This is adorable! I’ve seen printed bags like this, but I love the use of the felt for the texture. So awesome!

My kid would find it hysterical as his name is Kael and people always spell it as the vegetable. He hates it so much so that he introduces himself as “I’m Kael, K-A-E-L, as in an Old Irish name, not K-A-L-E, the leafy green vegetable”.
You guys are so creative. Love it!
Such a cute idea! What if you swapped leather for those straps!! That would be adorable.

I LOL on this one. You have a sense of humor like my grandson. He was shopping with his parents and said “No one look I’m going to take a Leek!” HA ha ha… I will have to make this for his mom.
I love this. Great idea!
