Of all the “summer” flavors out there, one of my favorites is the orange and cream combination. It can be a popsicle, a soda, a dessert—it doesn’t really matter, I’ll probably love it. We stopped by The Pharmacy last time we were in Nashville, and I got the most delicious homemade orange creamsicle soda that you could ever imagine. Now what’s one of our favorite things to do here at the blog? That’s right, make flavors we love as jello shots!
Orange Creamsicle Jello Shots, makes 24 slices.
3 large oranges
1 cup water
3/4 cup whipped cream or vanilla vodka
1/4 cup triple sec
1/4 cup vanilla ice cream (melted)
1 small box Jell-O
First you’ll want to cut the oranges in half and remove the orange sections from the orange peel. You can do this either by scooping them out with a spoon or using a handheld juicer to first juice the orange as much as possible and then scoop out any remaining orange. Just be careful not to dig down too deep and make a hole in your peel—all your jello will leak out the bottom if you do!
Boil your water on the stove and stir in your packet of orange jello until it dissolves. Add in your vodka, triple sec, ice cream and stir to combine. Pour into a measuring cup or some other container with a spout. Place your hollowed out orange halves in a muffin tin to keep them stable, and pour in your jello mixture to the top of each orange half.
Place your oranges in the fridge for a few hours until they are firm. Slice each half into four quarters, and you’re ready to serve!
You can either serve these all on a plate together or in individual shot glasses with a rim of sugar around the top. These are probably some of my favorite jello shots as far as taste goes, and I think it’s because of the ice cream. It really adds that creamy taste that you would expect from a creamsicle. I love that with the exception of scooping out the orange middles (that part’s a bit messy), this is actually a really easy process with an extra cute payoff at the end—and they are really fun to eat! A total mind trick for sure, but one that I highly recommend! xo. Laura

I made blood orange jello shots once and had a hard time getting them to stay put on the plate without spilling. Thank goodness you took the photo showing them in the cupcake tins. Such a smart idea. A friend of mine asked to have these at her dirty 30 party this summer and I was a bit nervous thinking about how many I would have to balance/make, but this will make my life much easier! And thanks for the new flavor idea too 😉
I am attending a crawfish boil this weekend and plan on doubling this recipe! Perfect timing, and so well executed, Laura!
Never had shots with orange flavour! Souds great!

Ahh! What an adorable jello shot. I find the ones that are actually full shotglasses are too big, but this looks like it might be better? 🙂

We make these in New Zealand without the alcohol and call them Jelly Boats. Put sails made out of toothpicks in a quarter and serve on blue jelly (sea) at kids birthday parties. I would love to try this version. Yum
I need to try these! Such a creative and original idea!
