Hey, guys!! You might have already seen this on Instagram, but just in case you didn’t, we wanted to share it here as well! For 24 hours (until tonight at midnight, mountain time), we are donating 100% of Oui Fresh proceeds to the ACLU. If you’ve been meaning to donate, here’s an easy way to do so. Love you guys!!! Do you think the Plant Lady tees will be restocked at some point? 🙂
So, so impressed that you’re doing this. Thank you. Also, it helps me finally pull the trigger on my Babe with the Power T #ladiez
That’s really amazing, not everyone would have the heart to do something like this.
The ACLU is responsible for so many horrible things, especially what they do to strong-arm small towns. I am so disappointed that you are jumping on the bandwagon and supporting them. I come to your site for design and beauty, not fear-mongering and politics.
You guys are awesome for doing this!

This is wonderful- Good job ladies! <3 <3 <3
So encouraging that you care about this – thanks so much ❤️
this is fantastic!
Yes, it will be back within the next month or so. 🙂 We just have to order more!
xx- Elsie
Thank you so much Katie!
xx- Elsie
THANK YOU for doing this. Behind you 100%!!
Your difference of opinion is totally welcome here. Our site IS for design and beauty, but this is a charity we are proud to support today.
xx- Elsie
If I could type the emoticons for fist pump and high five I would, because you deserve a million high fives! Continue to set that bar high for truly inspiring female leaders and we will follow in your footsteps. <3
I visit ABM not just for the design and beauty, but for the authenticity of Elsie, Emma, Laura, etc. I LOVE that I feel like I get to know the people who write the blog posts, their interests, their dreams, their concerns – it’s all part of the process. Elsie telling us how she’ll be adopting has NOTHING to do design and beauty, but has everything to do with developing a connection with the readers.
The personal is political, and I for one think that everyone, including people who write blog and run businesses, have the right to share their personal views. Just like they share that they are vegetarians, or that they prefer environmentally safe products. Sharing their support of the ACLU is just another way that Emma and Elsie show their authentic selves here on blog.
Thanks E&E. I can imagine it might have been scary to make this post, not knowing where your readers stand on the issue. I really respect your authenticity.
LOVE you guys for doing this. Proud to be following along with awesome bloggers who aren’t afraid to stand up for what is right. <3

Is this the first charitable thing you’ve ever posted about?
Nope, it’s not. 🙂
xx- Elsie
I wish I could like this comment about a 100 times. I agree. So disappointed to see this and can think of many other deserving organizations. Well, it is called a Beautiful Mess. Bummer. I love your blog, but not your politics. Peace.
Your difference of opinion is totally welcome here too. 🙂 We don’t view this sale as political. We have both democrats and republicans working for our company and we respect difference. We also donate to a pretty big variety of organizations. This is far from the only one. xx- Elsie
A huge THANK YOU to a Beautiful Mess for doing this and for caring about others! You have huge hearts!! I wish I lived in the US to buy all your tees! Big hugs from Sweden! xox
you all are so awesome!!! thank you so much for your generosity and support of an important human rights organization. i’ve always loved abm but now i love you even more!!!! 🙂
Whenever an influencer posts something personal there are always the comments like this about how “I don’t come to you for “X” I come to you for “X”…and the thing I never understand about these comments is that this is their blog! They can post about anything they want. We don’t pay to use this service so it doesn’t matter what you “come here for”. To me, that’s like having a friends tell you about something you don’t agree with and you telling them, “I’m not friends with you for your opinions. I’m here for the company.”
PS – I come for the personal stuff – not the beauty and design, and you don’t see me complaining about DIY posts! Thanks for sharing Emma and Elsei 🙂
This is amazing! Thank you for doing this x

Hi Tracy! We ship internationally. 🙂 -Jacki
Hugs to you guys! That is so generous and it takes major guts for you guys to go all in on something like this, so thank you. And it’s a great excuse for me to finally get the babe shirt!
Woo! YOU are the babes with the power. <3
Done! I’ve been wanting to buy a shirt AND support the ACLU so this is excellent!
You might be referring to “horrible” things like separation of church and state. Small towns can’t function like churches and this is “horrible” to some. With a wider lens, you’ll see that the ACLU defends the First Amendment to the Constitution regarding religious liberty.
Thank you so much for doing this!
Can’t wait for more “Babe With The Power” tshirts to be available in my size! Also I’d love if you had 3T and 4T for my kiddo!
xoxoxoxoo!!!!! BABES WITH THE POWER!!!
-Rach
Such a bummer that you ladies are trying to do something positive, and not for the first time either, and you’re getting backlash 🙁
I’m all over the place when it comes to politics, but I do know there are amazing and crazy people on all sides. I really wish, if nothing else, we could at least treat each other with respect.
So you all just keep being amazing!
Proud of your stance and your gracious responses to dissenters. Thanks for being inspirational business owners!
Very well said 🙂
No, it’s not. Long time readers may remember our project with Habitat for Humanity in 2015 as well as the 2016 ABM food drive supporting both our local food banks. Should we be lucky enough to stay in business longer, you can bet we will do other charitable things. 🙂
We are proud to be small business owning women who use our resources to give back to organizations that we support.
-Emma
They gave away a HOUSE to Habitat for Humanity!
This is wonderful!! Thank you so much for posting and supporting the ACLU! <3
Love it!

Thank you so much ladies for doing this. I have been a loyal ABM reader for 7+ years. Your hearts are large and you’ve done so many charitable things. Thank you for supporting the future of creativity and expression in this country. Love unites. Your team should all be proud of themselves. This makes me love you all even more.
Same! I just bought one myself!
I have never commented before even though I’m a long term reader – just had to say I am so proud of ABM for taking a stand!!! Even if you lose a few readers, those of us with you will continue to share your work. Keep it up!
My 10 month old is going to look cute and powerful. Thanks ABM team!
So proud of Team ABM! Keep up the great work, folks <3
If you can’t see that the political is the personal, you’re not opening your eyes wide enough.
Thank you so much to the ABM team– your compassion is so appreciated. Thanks for all that you do to brighten my day every day. Thanks for your support of ACLU.
ACLU is a bully to small towns and organizations. I’m incredibly disappointed to see this is the charity you’ve chosen to donate to.
Hi there,
Your difference of opinion is totally welcome here. It really is.
Via your IP address I can see 32 pages of kind comments from you (under a different name). You are obviously a kind a very loyal reader. You don’t have to hide your identity to disagree with our choice. We truly are open to hearing critique and disagreement when it is voiced in a respectful tone. It’s very important to us that this blog is always a safe and kind place.
Thanks for reading ABM for so long and even though we are very proud to support the ACLU right now, I hope you can see that what we still have so much in common and can learn from, respect and support each other. 🙂 -Elsie
I’m ususally a lurker, but really wanted to thank you guys for the amount of time and effort you put into being charitable. Really impressed with your Habitat for Humanity work, the food drive you just had last fall and now donating your proceeds to ACLU! Also I pin your recipes and DIY projects all the time!
I already got the Plant Lady shirt but I love this so much so I just got the blush sunnies as well. Thank you for doing this! I am going to feel so good about rocking those sunnies!
Xx, Marketa
I’ve never commented on your blog before, but I’ve been reading for years and wanted to say: THANK YOU for using your platform for good.
Hi Elsie and Emma,
Long time reader, first time commenter. I just want to say I really appreciate how whenever you guys do a charity drive you find ways for readers to participate even if they can’t donate at the moment. When you did the food drive for the food banks you donated on behalf of everyone who regrammed your post, and here you’re donating (100% of the proceeds!!) on behalf of people who buy something from your shop. I really love that.
I also want to let you know that this post really opened my eyes. I used to wonder why more people with an audience don’t try to use their platform for good, but now I can see why. You posted a post that was not political at all and was about donating your own profits to charity, and you got negative comments on it. I can see why people would just choose to keep quiet in that sort of climate, and I commend you for doing it anyway.
I think you’re sadly mistaking who the real bully is here.
YOU GO GIRLS!
Could you expand on this? I’m genuinely confused but have never lived in a small town. Strong armed into what?
I’m trying really hard not to judge this comment but maybe I’m just unsure how “jumping on the bandwagon” of supporting legal advocacy for people whose rights are being violated is a bad thing.
Thank you for using your businesses as an outlet for donating to organizations like the ACLU. I’ve been an avid reader for several years and enjoy your posts about design and beauty but I continue coming back because I love hearing your personal stories and opinions a thousand times more. It takes bravery to be willing to use your own business reputation as a stand for something controversial and I truly appreciate that you were willing to face criticism like in the post above. Thank you for being a constant inspiration – for beauty, design, and when it comes down to it topics that really matter too.
Thank you for doing this. I’ve been avoiding my usual blogs lately because it feels almost disturbing to see people behaving as though everything is normal. I think you did a good job with this one and will be donating to my local refugee resettlement organization in ABM’s honor.
thank you for supporting the ACLU. i finally bought the babe with the power shirt. would have also loved the plant lady one!
You guys are so awesome.
I am actually shocked anyone is objecting to this! I am glad to see you to girls taking some really positive action in these dire times.
This is so brave and we all need to be brave right now. Thank you.
Ladies – you will always be confronted with difference of opinion and since you’ve been doing this for as long as you have you must have thick skin by now. Regardless of some of your viewer opinions, I just want to say I had a huge smile across my face reading this post. Not only were you being charitable for a good cause but being brave because our businesses/blogs are our platform. If this is one small way you can make a difference than hell – go for it. You are not shouting politics you are making a gesture that can help an organization. Love it. Keep it up.
As if I couldn’t love you guys any more! Thank you for using your voice and your business to support the ACLU. I just purchased my “babe with the power” tee!
Beyond awesome!!
Same, I grabbed a Plant Lady tee! Thanks so much for doing this ladies!
Proud of you guys for stepping up for what you believe in!
Good stuff ladies, you got my respect and admiration for this
You two are so inspiring! Thank you for literally putting your money where your mouth is! xoxo
The site wouldn’t work for me yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to participate, but I definitely applaud this!
Good thing we live in a country that affords you the civil liberties to think and act as you choose.
I applaud your efforts, ABM! Thanks for letting me share my opinion.
I know I have expressed disappointment in the past, today you impressed me. Well done!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Elsie, Emma and everyone else involved in this process! And thank you so much for the class you display in your comments. Love seeing that everyone truly is welcome in your corner of the world.
You guys are the best ❤
“In the years following World War I, America was gripped by the fear that the Communist Revolution that had taken place in Russia would spread to the United States. As is often the case when fear outweighs rational debate, civil liberties paid the price.” And so the ACLU was founded.
Sounds a lot like today, no? There’s nothing political about protecting civil liberties. It’s just human.
<3
I’ve never commented before, but just wanted to say thank you for doing this! It means a lot and took some real guts to do. I admire you guys!
Thank you for doing this!
Thank you for doing this, Elsie + Emma! I’m so glad ABM donates to organizations that support the public good.
Super bummed I missed this post. Thanks a lot, grad school! I too wanted to applaud you for this gesture. This is your blog and your site and so you are free to post whatever the hell you want. I think it is really commendable that you chose to take a stand and support a really incredible organization. Things are getting really weird and really scary out in the real world, and we all need organizations like the ACLU to fight for us.
Thank you for speaking your mind and doing what I think (and many others do too, from the comments I’ve seen) is the RIGHT THING!!!!!
HELL YEAH ABM!!!!!
