Our wedding reception was packed full of creative details. I owe a million thank yous to Sharon Taylor who styled it with her team from Pickwick House. Before the meeting we had several weeks of meetings where we planned out details and bounced ideas. It was even prettier than I could have imagined when the big day arrived! Most importantly, it felt really personal. Sharon used tons of vintage pieces from our shop and our warehouse along with her personal collection.
Our venue was Savoy Ballroom. It is across the street from Red Velvet. I loved hosting everything so close to our shop. The owners had the idea to play old movies during the reception, so we played Breakfast At Tiffany’s and Funny Face on a projector (without the sound). It was a really cute touch!
Here are some more favorite photos from the reception…
Jeremy and his (wonderful) dad cut these wood place card holders for us! We found the library cards from Knot & Bow on Etsy.
(more photos of the dessert table here.)
And, per usual, my grandpa was stealing the show because he’s sooooo adorable!
This photo of me and Emma makes me smile. She gave such a sweet toast at the reception… tears! I ordered custom fringe banners that said Mr and Mrs to tie on our chairs (above) from Nice on Etsy.
Isn’t Katie the cutest? I made some special hand painted holgas for the tables at our reception. Can’t wait to see if there are any treasures on those rolls of film.
Here we are listening to the toasts. They were so incredibly sweet! We enjoyed every moment. XO, elsie
PS. In case you are curious… I only have a handful of wedding posts left (plus some wedding related DIYs). I never intended to break it up so much, but I am trying to keep the number of photos in each post reasonable so that they don’t crash your computers. ha!.. just kidding… but really. XO, els

The more I see of your wedding the more in love with it i fall.
I love your blog! Question: Did you have a rehearsal dinner the night before? It seems like your reception is a rehearsal dinner/reception combined. Every detail is gorgeous 🙂
I think I would have to say that my favorite decor item would have to be the name places. Those holders are awesome and so clever and I love that you had the names of your guests on library cards!
How fun! I adore the shoe accents on the table.
You have the most handsome grandpa on this planet. Such charisma! (charisma is the new sexyness, hahahaha!)

Everything is simply darling. I never would have even thought of this style for my wedding (I blame it on the lack of Pinterest at the time!) and I am so grateful that you got to flaunt your style and have FUN! Congratulations!
Great atmosphere together with good friends and loving family makes this wedding reception exciting and fun. The decor on the other hand looks unique, really adds life to the party…
Creative idea….

Very pretty……
Lovely! Love the vibrant colors!
My fiance and I are eicerienpxng a bit of a role reversal, in that I am in the minority of grooms, one who is the primary planner/coordinator of our upcoming wedding. My fiance has great taste and is involved with all major decisions, but is also an extremely busy professional, so I was happy to step up as the experienced party planner, doing the homework and pre-negotiating with vendors, before my fiance and I together make final selections of vendors and the plan. However, I had never planned a wedding before, so I’ve bought many books and read lots of websites and paged through many magazines (I don’t think I can look at another magazine ad of a bride-model laying horizontal on a couch without snickering). Virtually everything is written for the bride who typically plans the wedding which to me means there is a heavy emphasis on decorations and flowers and invitations and linens and color schemes it was all driving me crazy as a guy trying to put together a wedding plan that is simply fun and action oriented, while still allows for nice things. I’ve attended many dozens of weddings over the years and I’ve kept an eye on what makes weddings enjoyable and memorable: keep it festive, keep guests involved, and make sure there is time for the happy couple to spend time with each of the guests. I never saw any correlation with the size of the party, the location, the decorations, even the food quality (and I’m a big foodie), with how successful and fun the wedding was. Given this perspective, I looked and looked for wedding planning advice in all the books and magazines and websites, hoping to find action oriented advice for having a festive wedding reception frankly, I found little useful advice. Finally, just three months before our upcoming wedding, I have found the book I really needed on the recommendation of a wedding DJ friend (who lives and works in another state), I ordered Peter Merry’s book, which I have found to be chock full of actionable ideas from an experienced wedding DJ/entertainment director. He focuses on the concept of entertainment and leaves decorations and other more frivolous things to the other books. He is a welcome voice, a rare male perspective in wedding planning books, that a planning groom, and presumably planning brides as well, needs. I’ve already made adjustments to the reception agenda and found validation with some activity ideas we already had in place. Rest assured, there will be great food and many touches of elegance in the design of our wedding, but I am now more confident as ever we will have a truly festive wedding with Peter Merry’s advice influencing our plan. Many thanks to the author the advice is easily 10 times worth the cover price of the book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone planning their wedding.
sara rainey – Matt,You are brniallit!!! These pictures of John and Jenna are amazing!! Thanks so much for your creative gift. I can’t wait to see all of the rest of your pictures of this wonderful event. Love, MOG (Sara)
