I’m so excited to share my final post for my capsule wardrobe series today! If you missed the first two posts, you can read more about my process of getting started here and read the most helpful trick for outfit planning (ever!) here.
This project has been so worth the effort for me! I have saved time and money, simplified my closet (so every single item in my closet fits me and is something I am excited to wear) and, best of all, now that I have completed my capsule for the season I am ready to focus on other goals like getting dressed every day and trying new-to-me styles.
Here are the items that made it into my capsule this year! There are also some items in my closet still left over from previous seasons (that I still wear and love!), but these are the bare essentials.
Tops
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9
Bottoms
Dresses + Jumpsuits
Shoes
Bags
Outerwear
I hope this series has been a fun read for you. If you do your own capsule, I would love to hear about your experiences! I’ll be sure to share a recap of how it went and what I learned toward the end of the season. xx- Elsie

I love the warm red and yellow tones of your fall wardrobe, Elsie! I find myself wearing warmer colours during fall too – there’s just something so cosy about these shades! 🙂

I love how bare essentials also includes a 2500$ handbag?! I thought only lawyers and tv personalities had money to buy those!
Hi!
I guess I could have noted that I actually bought that used with the $$$ I saved from my closet sale that I did during Nova’s naptimes this summer. 🙂
Personally, I don’t think purchases of higher price points need to be explained. Having a good mix of items shows that Elsie is open to all types of brands and is happy to invest in some of them for the long haul or if they feel extra special to her. Whether she bought it new or used, I wouldn’t have cared. I don’t know or care to know what these sisters take in, but I do know that they are hard working business women and deserve to treat themselves however they see fit. <3
Thanks for sharing! I love your capsule posts! I was over the moon to see your Madewell overalls come in XXL! Cute overalls never seem to come in plus sizes! Woohoo! And the Chloe bag is beautiful.
You look AMAZING in that mustard dress, Elsie. And thanks for sharing that green jacket of my dreams. I just bit the bullet and bought it! I’m sure I can get the cost per wear WAY LOW on it (that was my justification).
Hooray! I hope you love it! xx
Love this so much!! I’ve been trying to minimize over the past year. I’ve probably decreased my amount of clothes by half and it already feels so much better! I’ve been wanting to try a capsule wardrobe though because I do notice there are still so many things I literally never wear mixed right into the daily wears and it does make things more time consuming for sure. Thanks for the info and inspo Elsie!
Yes- same here! I never thought of myself as having “too many” clothes, but when I finally got it down to what I actually wear it was pretty shocking! xx
With a capsule wardrobe do you get rid of all your other clothes? What happens to old clothes that don’t make the capsule? Thanks!
I don’t do that. I wrote more about my strategy here- http://abeautifulmess.com/2018/09/part-1-capsule-wardrobe-planning.html xx!
I am just finished with my own capsule wardrobe which is in the colors of basic and natural colors with a couple of items in golden brown and blue. Could though need a set of loungewear, but it’s not on my prio list as my three kids all need new outerwear this winter 🙂
Love this consept. I’ve never owned a lot of clothes, so the minimal wardrobe is now problem. But the change for me is to learn and create many different outfits and that each peace fit great together and that I like yo wear it all 🙂 Also to only take consious choices when it comes to shopping, but that is included also in my new way of living as a minimalist.
The first dress is absolutely gorgeous!!

Every item I clicked on that I liked was from Madewell. PSA everything is 30% with code ONYOURMARK. I just made some additions to my fall wardrobe 🙂 Happy Thursday!
Yay I’ve been waiting for this one! I love all your choices. I’m doing my first capsule wardrobe right now – after many returns I’ve got everything I need and am planning to snap photos of all the outfits this evening. Appreciate all your advice! I’ve already stopped myself buying a ton of new things! x
Hooray!!!
I love everything! You have such wonderful style-I’m excited to see the red pants in action!
The only sad part? No jewelry this time! Half expecting to see you and Nova with bestie necklaces any day. You two make my heart sing.
I have a basic-wardrobe ever since I had to dress myself with maternity clothes. You just don’t want to invest so much money for a short period of time. I found out then that was so much easier that it required 0 decision making in the morning. Three years later it is still… basic (although no maternity wear, of course). And a bit on the dull side. I certainly have found some new inspiration regarding getting dressed, without losing eye on budget and keeping it simple. Going to read more on this subject right now!
Would you ever post about, or come up with the general idea of, a work capsul wardrobe? I’ve been toying around with the idea of coming up with a work “uniform” where I have a specific outfit or 2 for each day of the week. My office is usually business casual, but for some meetings I need to dress up a little. I think having specific day of the week outfits would not only help with general spending, but would make getting dressed in the morning that much easier.
The bags are absolutely beautiful. The classic tote is my favorite and the price doesn’t bite. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this blog. I really need an immediate capsule wardrobe to sort out everything in my closet. I have a lot of clothes that I don’t wear anymore.
Such a beautiful capsule wardrobe!
