It’s the most calendar tiiiiiiiiime, of the year…..You know what happens in January, right? New calendars for everyone! Well, if you wanted it to be, this could be the last calendar you ever make because it’s a “perpetual” calendar, which means it’s adaptable for every year, for, like, ever. I mean, you know that I’m never against making things, but that sounds like a time saver to me!
Supplies:
– wooden tabletop sign
– small brass cup hooks
– glitter card stock
– glue
– blank gift tags (I used slightly larger tags for the month and smaller for the date numbers.)
– large number stickers
– small hole punch
– Canon PIXMA MG7720 Photo Printer
Since photos are such a big piece of this project, it’s the perfect post to work with Canon USA. I used the Canon PIXMA MG7720 Photo Printer for all my month pictures. Super easy to use, and I was able to lay out 4 months at a time in Photoshop to speed up the process. Anyway, you’ll need to take your gift tags and trim them shorter if needed to fit proportionally on your calendar backing (you need one for the month and two for the date). Print out 12 different photos to the month tag dimensions and either use Photoshop or letter stickers to add the month to each photo.
Cut out the photo and glue the photo onto the gift tag. Trim the edges that hang over and punch a hole where the hole should be. Repeat the process with the next month in succession and glue it to the back of the tag you just made so it’s double sided. Repeat with all the month photos.
Use the number stickers to make a tag for the numbers 0-3 for the first slot and 0-9 for the second slot. To cut down on the volume of hanging tags per hook, make the tags double sided with “0” on one side and “1” on the other side, etc., until you have all the numbers needed.
Paint or stain the bottom and sides of your tabletop sign. Cut a piece of glitter paper the size of the back of the sign and glue the paper in place.
Place the month and two date tag cards onto the back of the sign and mark where you want the cup hangers to be installed with a marker. Screw the cup hooks onto the marked spots (you can predrill with a small drill bit if you have trouble screwing them in by hand). Hang the numbers and months in the appropriate order and you’re ready to display the date!
This type of calendar is great to have when you are counting down to a big event because you get to physically change the date and feel the day getting closer (always a good thing when you have a traveling spouse like I do since I’m always on a countdown!). And I rigged it so I get to see a new kitty pic each month—so cute! You don’t have to technically commit to making this the last calendar you ever own, but if you like it, it’s good to know it won’t ever run out! xo. Laura
