I'm a little cactus obsessed this season! They're adorable and nearly maintenance free since they don't need watering very often. I recently helped makeover a youth room and the main accent colors we choose where orange and yellow neon. I wanted to add a few plants to the room so this is my inexpensive and colorโcoordinating solution. I saw a similar project in an anthropologie store and thought it was so cute. Here's how I made mine…1. Supplies: cleaned plastic bottles with the labels removed, yarn, scissors, cropodile or heavy duty hole punch, mini cactus plants and (not pictured) more (cactus friendly) dirt. 2. Use scissors to cut off the bottom 1/3 of the bottle. 3. Punch holes around the bottom lip of the planter, about 1/2 inch from the rim. 4. String the yarn through the holes and around the cap of the bottle. Braid and/or tie off the tops. Fill with dirt and replant cactus in its new home.I love how these turned out! As the cacti grow I will probably need to replant them eventually but it's no biggie as these bottles were needing a new purpose anyway. ๐ xo. Emma

It’s a good idea. It’s kinda hard to see the cactus with the color of yarn and the multitude of yarn but I’d like to try it.
I live in AZ so this is perfect! Thanks for sharing, Emma!

Great way to reuse plastic bottles. – I bet you could do this with glass jars, too.

Emma your such an earthy girl. I love it. And I’m not the biggest fan of cactus but I do love suculents, which would look great too.

I think its better if the yarns were braided.
Cute beginnings of an idea! The best thing about these posts are your reader’s clever addition ideas {those that offer them}– its like watching your creation bloom!

These are not cactii… they are a colored sort of succulent added onto a cactus base.

Cute! Ha- the only thing I can think of when I imagine them in a youth room is boys catapulting them at each other (picture lesson of David and Goliath?!)…maybe it’s from years of working with youth! ๐
You never cease to amaze me! What a great idea!

I love repurposing, these are great!
only you could make plastic soda bottles look this good! such an inspiration!
It’s just too bad the flowers on the cacti are straw flowers hot-glued to the plants.
No offense, but what?!
If you can’t pull off an original idea, then please try to do better than what you’re copying.
Maybe showing these hanging up would have conveyed the concept better?
These are so cute ๐ I need to make some
