Elsie and I just got this heart shaped waffle iron in the mail yesterday. So of course the first thing we wanted to make was red velvet waffles! Also, is it weird to share an appliance? I'm not sure but we were just thinking why buy two when we could easily share. I love waffles, but it's not a dish I make every week, so I could easily lend it out for a time. And I think she felt the same way. But it probably is sort of a weird thing to do… I guess. Whatevs.I've made red velvet waffles (and almost everything red velvet, if I'm being honest), but I had yet to try creating a cream cheese syrup. My first thought was that since the syrup would inevitably be very rich, I wanted to make sure the waffles themselves were not excessively sweet. So I adapted one of my favorite waffle recipes to make this batter.Red Velvet Waffles, make 4-5
1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 tablespoon cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup oil (I used vegetable oil)
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
In a bowl combine the dry ingredients (the first seven listed above) and whisk to incorporate. Now add in the remaining ingredients and stir until just combined. Allow the batter to rest for 20 minutes. Follow your particular waffle iron directions and make waffles.Cream Cheese Syrup, makes about 2 1/2 cups
8 oz. cream cheese
3/4 cup cream (I used half and half)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a pot combine the cream cheese, cream and sugar. It helps if you cube the cream cheese into 8 or so small squares. Heat over medium heat until the cream cheese begins to become more liquid. Whisk as you heat to remove any lumps. Once the mixture has become a thick syrup remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. If you want to thin the sauce out even more feel free to add more cream. You can drizzle the syrup over the waffles just before serving or you can serve it in a small cup and dip waffle pieces in! I prefer to dip. You do what feels right. π xo. Emma

Holy cow these look amazing and so decadent. Love the waffle iron, too, especially since they don’t look too thick. Perfect timing for Valentine’s day!

These look amazing. I’ve never made waffles myself, we don’t tend to have them very much in England. Do they count as cake? I’ve given up cake for Lent!

This would be a great start to a day! Honestly the most adventurous I have ever been with waffles is putting a strawberry on top, but I think I could make an exception for these yummies!

I’ve been hanging out to get a waffle machine! And these would be perfect for breakfast this morning, being valentines day.
This looks amazing! I’ve been wanting to buy a waffle maker!! Saving this for later π
Oh my, sharing a waffle iron is beyond adorable plus it is a great way to de-clutter. Why over burden your kitchen shelves when you can share! My sisters and I have all been eyeing my mom’s vintage 60’s lime green waffle iron for years, I really like your idea of sharing a kitchen appliance. Plus you can take recipes during the trade off, amaze balls.
Well, I once shared a vacuum cleaner with a neighbor (5 minutes a way). That went on for a year at least. Felt kind of funny but it worked really well.
Love waffles by the way, but I only make them maybe two times a year.
Oh you’re kidding me – these waffles looks amazingly, ridiculously delicious!! And that syrup – heavenly. I’ve got to try this.
Um… Those look amazing! I want to make these for V-day!

These look SO good!!! I don’t have a waffle maker sadly. π
Maybe this is a silly question but could I just use this same recipe to make pancakes instead?

I need to have this.
like….right now.
You’re gonna hate me for saying this.. but I’ve never liked the idea of red velvet anything. The idea of eating so much red food coloring disgusts me. Have you ever made a red velvet cake with natural food coloring? You know they’re out there. Our local patisserie has them this month. I’m gonna have to try it and let you know what I think.
In the mean time, check out:

Not weird at all! My sister and I who live two states apart trade clothes/jewelry etc for half a year at a time and then swap back. It makes us feel like we have a bigger wardrobe and it’s fun to get the stuff back that you haven’t seen for awhile!

Red waffles, that’s cute!
In Norway that is a regular waffle iron by the way, those are the only kind we make.. π We use a different batter than you do though, it’s not as thick, maybe you should try it out? Here is a link to a recipie: http://oppskrift.klikk.no/vafler/2030/ It’s in Norwegian but Google Translate should be able to translate it?:D
We eat them with jam (and sometimes sour cream on top of the jam) or what I prefer – with brown cheese (and sometimes butter). Yum!
Looks amazing. I love red velvet anything, lol.
I made a double recipe of these for my 15-year-old son and my 23-year-old son and his girlfriend. I baked them in my Belgian waffle maker, and the aroma of the chocolate and vanilla was just heavenly. My youngest said they were so delicious they were “godly”, and my son’s girlfriend said, “This recipe must be shared with the world!” Thanks so much for sharing the amazing recipe!
Oh my word. My mouth is drooling. SO good.
