It's time for round three of our Everyday Styling series with Sarah. Click here to see round 1 + round 2.
I'm so excited to share my Summertime makeup routine! I feel that I should start out by sharing that I am an instructor at our town's Paul Mitchell school so my makeup ritual is a little more technical and involved than other gals. I've gotten my steps down to a science and the whole she-bang takes me about 15 minutes to apply. Also, my mom is an Avon Representative so I buy a lot of products from her. Here it goes!
I actually cannot believe that a photo of myself with naked brows will now live on the internet. With a small angled brush I use medium brown matte eyeshadow to create the top line of the eyebrow first. Then I fill in the interior and bottom line of the brow. I usually grab a Q-tip and fade out the perimeter of the brow to soften it up and make it look less "drawn on".
SHADOW: Sephora brand, medium brown (matte), BRUSH: e.l.f. Studio Small Angled Brush
This Summer, I've been beginning my make up with a tinted moisturizer (with sunscreen!) all over my face. Then I follow up with a concealer under my eyes, to hide dark circles and above and below my brows. This will help in the brow defining stage. Next I dust my entire face with a fair-colored loose powder foundation and then apply a more bronze powder just below my cheekbones with a blush brush. This small step helps to build the initial depth of the cheeks.
Next, I move on to my lids. I start by sweeping a light brown matte shadow from the crease of my eye down to my lid. I follow with a darker brown shadow in the crease and outer corners of my lids. Then I use a peachy-rose on the lid and just above the crease. Make sure to blend these peachy spots with the darker brown.
HIGHLIGHTER: Benefit Cosmetics Eye Bright Pencil
Next, I use a soft dark brown eye liner pencil. I always start on the outer corner and glide toward the center then apply a little on the outer side of the lower lash line. I LOVE the pencils with a little smudge sponge on the end! I use that little guy to soften the liner before I move on.
EYELINER: Maybelline New York Define-A-Line Eyeliner, Brownish Black
After I line, I move on to mascara. I always cover my lower lashes first and let them dry before I move on to the top lashes. This lowers the risk of mascara dots messing up what's already finished on the top lid and brow bone.
MASCARA: Rimmel London Volumeflash Scandaleys Mascara Black
I always finish my eyes before I move on to my cheeks. This way if I have product fall on to my cheeks then the cleanup is easy. Fixing mistakes on blushed cheeks means little erased patches that are harder to fix.
I start my cheeks by applying a cream bronzer with my finger very lightly on the bridge of my nose and under the cheekbones and blend upward. I give that product a few minutes to dry and apply my lip color. I finish my face with a pink blush on the apples of my cheeks and blend up and out.
BLUSH: Avon Ideal Luminous Blush (Antique Rose), LIP COLOR: Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick (Pout), BRONZER: Stila One Step Bronze
When it comes to my hair I should tell you, I have a lot of it. I only wash it about every 6 days and lately I've fallen in love with Paul Mitchell's Forever Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. I know, I know. I'm not blonde, but the ends of my hair have been lightened. Washing my hair less and using this keratin-enriched system keep my hair very healthy. So as I near that 5th-6th day of "lived-in" hair, I keep the styling simple.
I use my smoothing iron to smooth out my fringe and the hair that frames my face. Then I tie a low side-pony really tight and gently loosen out some height at the crown and top of my head. Next, I use my smoothing iron again to curl the pony-tail in about 4 big sections. I end by wrapping a small section of hair around the hair tie to cover it. I end by applying a small mixture of Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Treatment Oil and Fast Form Cream Gel to the length of my pony-tail.
Thanks for reading Sarah's Everyday Styling Routine. We will be back with another round soon!

Oh my word, I adore this look! And Sarah is beautiful! She is right – I recently started using a highlighter, and it makes such a difference. I love this series, Elsie and Emma. 🙂
I love that Sarah’s look enhances her features – and doesn’t overpower her beautiful face. She’s a doll. And I have to say, I’m quite envious of her brow arch. = )

How do you get away with not washing your hair for 6 days? I’d love to hear more about that thanks!
Brittany
Very cute! 🙂
Wow, great routine! Very similar to mine! And I love how Sarah used the matte brown shadow to define her brows; it really makes a world of a difference. Definition of the brows really frames the face and makes anyone appear more vivid and alive!

beautiful! sarah is a fountain of make-up knowledge & tricks. she does all that in 15 minutes? holy wow.
wait, is the second picture from the top without makeup?? sarah your make up is great and still looks natural/unfussy/awesome but damn girl you are also really gorgeous without makeup too!!
Very nice look!!! Sarah is sooooo pretty!! The bronzer give a nice dimension to this look!!! Will try to wear my bronzer like that now ahead!!
I too would like to hear more about how you can go 5 or 6 days without washing your hair? Are you rinsing in the shower everyday but just not using shampoo? A hairdresser once said that’s what she recommended but i just can’t see that working out for my hair. If I wash it one day, and not the next, by the end of that day it looks too limp and slightly oily.
Also, how do you get your bangs and sides with so much lift and fullness? Is it just naturally thick hair or is it a particular shampoo?
Anyway, love the post!
Hi Sarah – you have long lashes – how do you put mascara on your upper lashes without getting it on your eyelid (after shadow)? I love shadow, but never use it because I end up wiping it away when I clean up my mascara! 🙂
nice.. i love this! 🙂

So beautiful with or without the makeup.
great makeup routine!

I love that she uses Avon! I use a lot of Avon products and love them. I find them to be better quality than some drugstore brands and sometimes infinitely cheaper! I love that shadow duo and have something similar from Avon, too. I’m going to try out that eye look next week. Great routine!
Hey guys- I will chat with Sarah about working on a dry shampoo post! 🙂 It’s really awesome.
So beautiful and natural… love the eyeshadow application, gorgeous!

The pre-make-up photo is the best. Absolutely naturally beautiful. 🙂
Love this! I am totally beauty-things dumb, so pardon if this is a ridiculous question, but does the eyebrow shadow also work to make her eyebrows look lighter? Because in the all-natural shot they look more black and then in the done one they look more brown. Very cool!
I hope I don’t sound psycho… but, Sarah, you are sooooooooooo beautiful!!!!! loved the style, obviously, but you are so stunning even with no make up at all. 🙂
gorgeous!
So gorgeous…both before and after! You are so gorgeous Sarah! And I love your tips concerning highlighting/bronzer/blush.
I am seriously LOVING this series!
this is great! what color nailpolish are you wearing?!
She’s gorgeous!

Not sure if this helps any of the replies above…
During half the year, I don’t wash my blonde curls any more than 1x per week, twice at a push. Instead I opt to shower with silicone free conditioner (and soap for the rest of me – of course!) as recommended by a Curly Girls website and a close friend with more curl than me. These days I use Tresemme because it is available in Hong Kong. It is pretty good. As a teenager, I used horse shampoo and conditioner. It was great when my hair was long. I’m not sure what dry shampooing is though… would be keen to hear.
On the same note, I do have an issue in summer. The blonde would go green if I did not wash every time after swimming… this happened once as a kid – Trauma! (Note, I’m not a bottle blonde) As you can guess, this dries my curls out into a straw like frizz… I’ve tried swim caps, but these don’t work. I wonder if RV has a solution for this? There must be a conditioner out there without silicone that can rinse out chlorine???
Maybe this is some miss match between generations and expectations – i.e. increase of persons using pools (with chemicals) and increase in hair washing frequency go hand-in-hand.
Cheers, Jess
she is really beautiful.
I’ve been looking for a way to enhance my eyebrows, but everything looks too drawn on, but this is perfect! Love it! Thank you!
Ohhh Sarah you look so good!
I’ve really caught the eyebrow bug. I use to never touch them (they’re big enough), but now I think, how can someone not fill in their eyebrows?
The Lovelorn
Sarah is beautiful and I have to say, I think she looks better without the make-up. I think most women do and we should be proud to flaunt our natural beauty without the need to enhance it artificially.
Love love love these posts!! 🙂 Keep them coming. She looks great!
You look like you’re positively glowing! I really need to invest in some highlighter!

Sarah is so beautiful! She is also very skilled about applying her makeup. It fits her face so nicely without overpowering it and look to “makeup-y”. Thanks for the post!

I, too, want to know how she keeps her hair looking so nice washing it only every 5 or 6 days. Mine looks so oily and greasy and gross after the 2nd day, and the skin in my forehead starts to get greasy too and my head itches. I would love to go longer whitout washing my hair, if it looked and felt good that way.
Wow 6 days?! I cant even get away from washing it for two days, it just feels oily and smells
the dry shampoo post would be much appreciated!!! i wash about every 3 days and even with using psssssst! dry shampoo my bangs and hair right by my ears gets oily. sometimes i will wash just the hair that frames my face and that helps!
I just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading the posts in this series. I find them so much more accessible than magazines as you know that they feature ‘real’ people and products that they genuinely find useful and not just products that they have been sponsored to use. Keep em coming! Claire.x
Second (or third or fourth) the curiosity about the 6 days without hair washing! I wish! Can’t wait for a dry shampoo post.
Such a beautiful girl, with and without makeup!

Oh my gosh, you look so cute! I’d love to do something like that with my hair, perfect. Thank you for sharing!
So, so beautiful! Wish I could look as pretty as that gal!

This looks like a lot of work, but she looks ah-mazing! Her look is so fresh and makes me wish I’d make more of an effort with my make-up routine (which is almost non-existant at the moment). I especially love her hair. I would kill for hair like hers (lol)!
I LOVE the everyday styling series. Recently I had to order new makeup and i was sure to use this as a guide for product and methods to try. Thank you, ladies!
Great post. I like the simple nature of the final product. Definitely playing up her natural beauty! I am interested to know about how she manages to go 5-6 days without washing. And really just more on this topic in general. I know it’s not healthy for your hair to be washed everyday, but does this mean passing on the shower all together, or foregoing the use of shampoo but still getting it wet? I’d love to know how you do it!
Thanks!
Danielle
She is gorgeous! And makes me want to look at an Avon book!
Wonderful!!!
She is gorgeous!
beautiful with & without makeup!
You look beautiful!! Thanks for the tips. I will be trying these soon xo
To be honest, I think the ladies look better in their before pictures!
this, if anything, is a reminder to leave my face as clean as possible. while she is obviously TOTALLY radiant and beautiful after her styling, i actually much prefer her clean, unadorned face. if i had that skin and those eyes, i would parade them around naked as often as possible!
Very pretty!

I love your hair color. Is the dark color your natural? If its colored which color is it? Im a hairdresser myself and I want your color but maybe your one of the lucky ones with a great natural color.
Thanks for including me among this great company of bloggers.
Thanks for saying you wash your hair every 6 days. I do that (as well as my hairdresser) but I feel like anytime that comes up people look at you like you’ve said you haven’t take a bath in a month!
Great hair. Great make-up. Great tips!
