Halloween is hands down more fun once your kids are old enough to go trick-or-treating for more than four houses before they’re over it. We’re at that sweet spot where all three of our kids are still young enough for us to enjoy this holiday together but also old enough to have some great costume ideas. Two years ago Brett and I went as Cruella de Vil and her dog catcher and carried Smith the whole evening in his little Dalmatian snow suit that I safety pinned to the outside of his baby carrier. The kids went as their favorite characters at the time, and even though we all did our own thing, it was fun searching for costume ideas until we each landed on one.
This year—oh this year! It was the big kids’ idea to dress up as a family, and I can’t hardly wait to share. Let me just say, for being a non-sewing year, there was a whole lot of energy spent in tracking down coordinating/matching outfits and accessories! My thrift stores failed me, so I had to take to Amazon, but I finally got my hands on what I wanted. Now, let’s all cross our fingers that everyone wakes up on Halloween morning without having changed their little minds!
We join the Halloween festivities in our old neighborhood because it’s about as charming as it gets over there. 75% of the houses decorate their porches, and the costumes are so creative and fun! It’s always fun to meet up with favorite friends or bump into them as you make your way down the street.
It’s been almost too warm of an October for me to be feeling that pumpkin spice vibe, but that just means I can drink more in November! We are carving our pumpkins last minute over here. So I grabbed some photos from the first Halloween we spent here in this house, and it kills me how tiny my boys both look! I need to make a mental note to take more photos of them together doing the same things each year to keep documenting all the ways they change.
The October Messy Box is a great mix of subtle Halloween themes as well as some coffee love and general fall vibes, and there are some incredible stamps in this month’s kit! The eye stamp and the cat stamp are pretty much my favorite, and I can’t wait to create more of my own patterns with them. I also think I might need to start keeping track of how many PSL’s I have in November so I can use one or two of the journaling cards from the October kit again. They’re so fun! –Rachel
