Hi friends! Happy Sunday. This week I'm focusing on colored inks. Ever since I got the ABM ink pad set in the mail a few weeks ago I can't stop playing with them. I am having the best time experimenting with different color combinations and, really, falling in love with stamping for the first time. (Like, really, really true love)
Previous to these inks I was an "all black" ink girl. So today I wanted to share with you a few of the fun ways I've been using the ink set to add color to my paper craft projects!
Ok, so first up- a scrapbook page. I stamped the background of this 9×12 photo using this Aha Arts stamp. I used mineral, mint, peaches, peas and cement ink colors to create a fun, colorful background.
You can see here how I got the stamping really close to our bodies without overlapping. Just create a little mask with scrap paper and you're good!
And here is my completed page. Full page photos are my favorite. I'll use this one next to a page with lots of smaller photos from that autumn party!
Next up, a simple greeting card! I used almost every color in our ink collection to create a repeating pattern with one of the Emoji stamps. I love how all the colors mix together to create a busy pattern and using one stamp keeps it clean and simple.
Here's a detail photo of the stitching. I used my sewing machine to stitch some words onto the card with neon pink thread.
And last, but not least, I used this holiday stamp set (designed by my pal, Cathy Z for Studio Calico) to make a few 3×3 cards for my upcoming holiday scrapbook pages. Truth be told, I bought the stamp set just for those adorable trees, but I love a whole bunch of them. The merry & bright stamp makes an awesome text pattern, right?
K- that's all I have for this week. Tonight I'm having wine night with my little brother and we're making decorations for Penelope Bloom's 5th birthday party this week- mermaid theme!!!!
Love you guys, Elsie

Great pages! Have to try this idea out. Now I just have to think about, which theme would be the right one to decorate it like this.
Best wishes! Have a nice week.

I absolutely love the stamping on the photo! Does it not smear? I tried this once, but mine smeared all over the place. Is there a secret to doing this?
love this page! the photo is beautiful π I would love in the future to maybe see what a “typical” day at A Beautiful Mess looks like. It’s always fun to see the behind the scenes bits in my opinion!

Wow! I really love the scrapbook layout you made with the patterned stamping background! It looks amazing.
I was curious – do you need to print the photo on matte paper to be able to use stamping ink on top of it, or will the inks work on glossy photo paper too?
Thanks for the inspiration! π
Thank you so much Yara!!!
xx- Elsie
Hi Amy!
Nope, it does not smear. I use Canon Luster photo paper (it’s a matte finish) and I stamp and handwrite on it quite a bit with no issues. :))

Thanks Allie! That’s what we try to share in our “Casual Friday” feature. I’ll be honest, it’s so different each day! Some days I feel like I make-make-make (like today) and some days I’m on my computer a lot. It’s definitely a balance of crafty stuff and business stuff (like meetings) all the time.
Is there anything specific you’d like to see?
xx- Elsie
Hi Tessa!
Every photo paper is a little different. If you used a glossier paper you’d probably want to let it dry for longer (to avoid smearing) but it would likely still work just as well! I use Canon’s Luster finish paper as my main photo paper and I love it. π

Awesome! Thanks so much for your help, Elsie! π
Elsie,
When can I buy a font in your handwriting?! I mean, basically, when will you turn your handwriting into a font I can buy?
That seriously needs to be next in the ABM shop. π I would use it everywhere.
Love,
Sydney π
I wish I had more time to scrapbook….
Love the post!

Thank you for this. I love the little paper tip. I am such a noob when it comes to scrapbooking. My goal in 2015 is to keep up with photo taking & scrapbooking, so I can have things to look at in the future! :] // http://www.itscarmen.com βΌ β―

Hi there!
I use stamp cleaning wipes. I don’t mind it if my stamps get stained (it happens) but I do like to keep them clean so old ink doesn’t mess up my new colors. π
xx- Elsie
You guys definitely just made stamping VERY appealing to me!! Beautiful colors and creative uses for the stamps. The Emoji ones are amazing.
