Everybody has their “go-to” hairstyle that they do when they need a quick look that says, “I put some effort into my hair today,” and this simple chignon bun is that hairstyle for me. I wear it for all sorts of events, and I love it because it’s easy to pull off and doesn’t look too fussy when it’s done. You also don’t need a lot of fancy tools to create it either, which is nice if you need to make your hair behave in a pinch.
Step One: Take a teasing brush and tease a few layers of hair at the back of the crown of your head. Smooth the top layers of your hair with the brush.
Step Two: Gather your hair into a low ponytail. I have long bangs in the front, so I like to keep a few pieces out in the front. You can do that too if you like that look or just include all your hair in the ponytail.
Step Three: Twist your ponytail and wrap the twist around the base of your ponytail to create a bun. You can also tease your ponytail before you twist it to create a bigger bun if you want.
Step Four: Use bobby pins to pin the bun into place and give your hair a quick spray of hairspray to set the look and help contain flyaways. That’s it!
So simple right? This is great for a date night, dinner with friends, or even for bridesmaid duties, and I like that it creates a soft wave look when I take out my hair at the end of the night. If you need a classy look that doesn’t take much time to do, you’ll want to give this one a try for sure! xo. Laura

Wow, that really is simple. I think the tease at the back of the crown gives it a little something extra. :]

Do you have a teasing brush you’d recommend? I’ve been looking for one! I do a version of this higher up on my head but love it lower (like you’ve done), too!

This is so cute! I just have to wait for my hair to grow out a little longer so that it would all fit into a little bun like this. Love it!

Looks beautiful! I’m still looking for the perfect “go-to” hairstyle, and I definitely will try this.
Very pretty! http://www.hannamarielei.com
This is perfect. I love the look with the teasing. And thank you for the tip about teasing the ponytail before the wrapping and pinning – usually I don’t like my hair this way because I don’t have enough to get a full bun in the back, but I never thought of the teasing and that should help (as well as help the bobby pins stay put.)

This looks so simple and elegant! Definitely going to try it on my hair soon 🙂

What is your lipstick color? It’s amazing! Love this post and love the posts with Anna Rose too (she does my hair in Hollywood!)
I saw many ladies on this post wishing they had longer hair… I recently was diagnosed with a thyroid disease that made my hair fall out and I LEARNED a lot about making hair grow back quickly…i wrote a blog on it and the secrets and products I used if anyone wants to read it.

I use this brush and I like it, but I haven’t tried a lot of brushes so I don’t have much to compare it to:

I usually do too, but you can either pin or spray them down, or just leave them for a messier look 🙂
Laura
Ha ha, I just gently brush it out with a paddle brush and that works for me!
Laura 🙂
Oh wow! Well, I hope you are feeling good these days, thanks for the tips!

Even when I tease my hair the ponytail ends up pulling it down/flat after a while. Any idea how to fix this or what I’m doing wrong?
