This is a cocktail that Elsie and I had (quite a few times) while on vacation in Mexico earlier this year. It was my first time ever visiting Mexico. It was a laid back vacation spent on the beach (on a resort). So to me, a Singapore Sling will always taste like a tropical vacation. πThere are a ton of different Singapore Sling recipes available. I read online that the original recipe created at the Raffels Hotel (in Singapore) is no longer being served. Although that might sound kind of sad, I actually think it's a glass half full (liquor pun!) kind of thing. You don't have to worry about adapting the recipe to whatever suits your tastes. Many of the recipes I saw included grenadine, which I've chosen to omit. I just think the drink is sweet enough without it. But you can be the judge. Make it the way you like it.Singapore Sling, makes one.
1 ounce white rum*
1/2 ounce Cherry Heering
1/4 ounce Cointreau
1/4 ounce Benedictine
3 ounces pineapple juice
1/2 ounce lime juice
1 dash Angostura bitters
ice
Combine all ingredients in a glass and stir together. Add ice an allow to chill before drinking. You can also shake all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker. Either way. I did the lazy version. It's a vacation cocktail guys.
*Singapore Slings are more often made with gin but I like to use white rum. Just seems tropical…This cocktail is a LOT of fun. They would be super fun to serve at a party. I like to garnish each drink with a cherry, pineapple wedge and fresh lime. I really love the Cherry Heering. I can't wait to find other uses for it. Do any of you have favorite drinks that include Cherry Heering? xo. Emma

I’ve had a (modern) sling at Raffles; overpriced and not very nice I’m afraid (there are much MUCH better cocktails in sunny Singaling… I’ve had the headaches to prove it!). I think your cocktail sounds yummier than the diluting juice they currently serve!
Blood & Sand is as classy as it gets, and entirely inauthentic without Cherry Heering!
The name is what makes it!
These are my favourite!! It is all about the aromatic bitters as well π

Oh, Singapore Slings! I ordered these a lot after reading Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Haven’t had one in ages, gonna have to change that. Your garnishes look perfect.
Yummmm! Totes on the list to make! I can’t help but scoff those cherries though…
Cointreau is so yummy, and this cocktail looks delicious! I’m excited for anything that will remind of a tropical vacation right now π xx

Now I just read Cherry Heering as Cheery Herring. I was a little disappointed after I found out what it really meant π
I love the cocktail and the story behind, it seems like you had great sister time. Could you post any pictures of your vacation that would be awesome and some info on the resort itself please…
Much love to you both!!

Love everything about this.. except for Cherry Heering, which I had never heard of until now (I had to google it and everything, ha). I bet it’s great, I’ll have to pick some up and make these.
Yum! This sounds amazing! My husband and I drank a certain cocktail(mai tais) everyday when we were in Mexico and it always takes us back tooβ₯ Cheers!
Beautiful! I once bought my boyfriend a book and it had an old bookmark from the Raffels Hotel in it, with the recipe for a Singapore Sling! We haven’t tried it yet, but your post and pictures totally convinced me!

I remember a friend telling me she went to Raffles, ordered the Singapore Sling and then almost fell off her seat when she received the bill and realized how expensive it was. I suppose it’s a piece of history… These look delicious!

I’ve never had this drink before but I love tropical drinks when I have them. I think it’s really cool how you guys make the idea of DIY cocktails accomplishable at home. I never thought I could make a fancy drink in my own home. Thanks for the inspiration!
I hate gin, so I love that you used rum instead. This looks amazeballs!
Huh. Who knew that a local (I live in Singapore :D) is internationally known? But then again, it was made during the colonial era and was more of British favourite then something the locals would drink.
I’m quite fond of a good cocktail and this one looks scrumptious! I’m still on the lookout for an awesome cart to make over into a bar ABM style too…..no joy in the thrift stores yet π

I’m so thirsty! However 11:00pm is not the time for such drinks as I have a standing 6:30am wake up call delivered by my beautiful 11 month old Poppy. I guess this thirst will have to wait until my birthday…only 5 days to go! Thanks for the recipe:)
Ah! Singapore Slings always remind me of that movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny Depp drinks them at the polo lounge. In fact, I think he’s the reason I ever tried one in the first place. Definitely have to make my own now! Thanks for the recipe.
I live in Singapore and that’s my fave cocktail. It’s interesting to note that this drink is being made in Mexico. π
this looks so colorful and fun to eat! yum x

Cointreau is the key it seems to many delicious drinks. Thanks for the idea…My son’s graduation is next week. Party on the patio with his favorite Asian inspired foods. I’m thinking a pretty tray of these when {adult} guests enter would be fun and unexpected. CHEERS!

I love Cherry Heering. That stuff is delicious!
Mmm, it looks delicious! Iβll give it a try! π
Whoo Singapore Sling!
Showing some love from Singapore right here! Hiiiiiiiiiii.
This looks pretty awesome! It might take me a while to acquire all those ingredients, but one day, I’ll have to give it a try. Or just order it next time I’m at a bar.
Have they only recently stopped serving the Singapore Sling? We were there in September 2012 and my partner had this drink at the Raffles Hotel and he loved it. It’s such a famous drink and hotel, I’m surprised they’d stop serving it. It helps attract the tourists to the place who can’t afford to actually stay at the hotel (like us!) I had a different cocktail there though as I’m not a fan of Contreau. But it brings back good memories of our three-day stoppover we spent in Singapore last year!
I’ve been to the Raffles and had the Singapore sling. A bit of an experience as the room is very dimly lit and the floor is strewn with peanut shells. The trick is to ask for them to make the cocktail fresh. Its demanded so much that they have a pre-made version on-tap, so you have to ask them to make it fresh to get the good stuff. π
Funny that I have never drank this even though I stay in singapore. I think your drink might be tastier! π
I’ve got the ingredients written on a list and intend to make these for our 4th of July picnic. Of course I’ll have to test them out first. π
