You know autumn is in full swing when you find yourself caught in a downpour! Despite the chilly rain, I am feeling so excited about this coming season. Autumn in the Midwest is best if you ask me. 🙂
During the next few months, I'm planning to get more into writing (I started a "writing group" with a good friend of mine), take some local pottery classes, and build a couch. Oh yes, I have schemes to make us a new couch. If it turns out, I'll be sure to show you all. If it doesn't turn out, I'll likely never mention it again. 🙂 What about you? Do you have any fun goals for the next few months?
Also, pretty soon we'll be gearing up for my favorite fall tradition: Friendsgiving! I love the sense of accomplishment from preparing a giant meal for our friends to enjoy. Let me know if there's any flavors or dishes you'd like to see us put our own spin on.
I know–but I had to! Getting caught in the rain is no fun unless you choose to make it fun. Am I right? I'm also happy to report that my boots dried out by the afternoon and show hardly any wear. I would not say they make good rain boots, but they didn't do too bad. I was impressed.
For our outfits in this Sister Style, we teamed up with our friends from Boden USA, who's offering you guys a 15% discount + free shipping with the code 'MESS'!!
Wishing you tons of happiness this autumn season! xo. Emma (+ Elsie)

I’m always so jealous of people who can pair two bright and bold patterns like Elsie has here. Time for me to start trying the same thing in my closet.

This is one of my favorites, love all the colors and joyful vibe that these photos contain!
Love these looks. You two are too cute! Makes me miss my sister!

Those projects sound so cool… I hope that couch works out for you, because I’m curious as to how one would make it! Your guy’s outfits are so cute! I especially love Elsie’s skirt!
Love both outfits! I definitely want to experiment more with pairing patterns and adding bold colours like that red to spice things up a little 🙂
Definitely denim dress season. I need to either source one or make one.
I feel like Emma has been writing a lot more posts these days… which is great, she’s great, but sometimes I miss Elsie’s voice. The blog used to have a certain “tone” because of Elsie’s writing, and I feel like it’s lost that a little bit over the years. I do love the content, but just wanted to share my two cents. Thanks for all the inspiration, ladies (and gents).
Looooove the denim dress! Great for Spring, Fall or Winter!
Love,
Amelia
You just keep getting more and more beautiful, Emma! It has been cool seeing more posts from everyone but I love your attitude and writing style.
These sister style posts are some of my favorites you guys do. They always remind me of my own sister and I (which is always great) and it shows your awesome personalities! The differences you guys have are beautiful. My sister and I always talk about how different we are (messy vs. neat, outgoing vs. shy, affectionate vs. not-so-much, etc.) but the thing that makes us so inseparable and such great friends is the most important thing we have in common: our love for one another. Sisters are the best!
xoxo

Such sweet looks! Love how fun you make each of your sister shoots! So creative! 🙂

Yay for pottery classes! I started ceramics about ten months ago and I love it! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get the wheel at first, it takes time but it’s so worth the effort!
I love this feature, although with your team expanding, it would be really cool to see not just “Sister Style” but “ABM Style” and include some other members of your team! I would love to see some guys outfits, too- you know, before the Christmas season to get some guy outfit ideas. Just some food for thought. 🙂
Love the outfits…especially emma’s red top peaking out of that dress, love it! Elsie’s top is colorful..

I can not wait to layer it up with my wardrobe! Too bad it’s been in the low 90’s here in Utah. It really needs to get with the program 😉
You both look great btw!
Love Boden and what you guys picked.
Love the pop of polka dots on the inside of this purse. I have a boring-ish brown purse with bright blue floral on the inside – every time i open it it makes me smile!
where are elsie’s clogs from? soooo adorable!!! xox
I really like the top that Elsie is wearing and the boots that Emma is wearing. Also… Elsie’s phone case is absolutely adorable. I gotta say: I am definitely a girly girl. I would be extremely happy if I could wear a dress with bows and oxford heels. I can’t wait for the autumn weather to be in full swing. My plans for this season is to learn how to sew and possibly learn how to take some better photographs (taking any photos that are decent would be an improvement haha). Thank you for posting! Have a lovely day!

I love how both outfits are cool and chic with a lively pop of color! I only wish I was more daring in my clothing adventures!

Although I love both of your outfits, Elsie, I adore your mixed prints. That top! And that skirt!? AMAZING. Love it.
I’ve been thinking of setting some fall goals for myself, too. A pottery class would be fun – my sister actually told me she has always wanted to take one! I think my goals right now are to find a new job – do some research and applying and hopefully something will come up!

You two are so cute! I am going through a depression right now and one of the bright spots in my day is checking your blog. It’s so carefree and happy and fun. God bless you two!
Totally digging the floral and stripe combination. That’s my wardrobe goal this fall!

That striped skirt and top looks amazing!
As far as thanksgiving recipes I’d love to see an Asian style brussel sprout dish..maybe with fish sauce? Yum!
You two always dress to perfection! I need to go get my autumn on!
I totally love how you put together denim shirt dress and stripes and striped skirt with printed top! SO cool and chic!

Have you ever considered a post along the lines of “DIY Fumbles”? I would love to see the failures alongside the successes, and it could be funny as hell. Not to mention reassuring us that we readers aren’t the only ones whose projects flop on occasion:)
Very beautiful sister styles! Love you all!
Oh Love that outfit Elsie! And I completely agree about the ‘making rain fun’-comment emma 🙂 Lovely fun post! So ready for autumn <3
You look stunning girls! Loving the pic where you are splashing in the puddle! And the denim dress
Gorgeous looks.

I love the floral blouse with the striped skirt! Both you girls are adorable, my co blogger and I recently did a photoshoot together and it was quite awkward to try and figure out how to pose two people, you girls are such naturals! Definitely will be referencing your photos back!

Hi Emma
You said we could ask your ideas for twists of the traditional thanksgiving meal. I’m a Midwest girl myself from St Louis and went to university in Springfield, MO. I now live with my Aussie husband in Australia. I LOVE and miss fall and winter back home and struggle with the thanksgiving dinner sides. It’s spring/summer here during Thanksgiving/Christmas. Ideas for making any traditional sides more summer friendly. I do not want to give up on the Autumn flavours but the heaviness and heat of the food is getting to be much. Please help, my fellow Midwest girl!
Emma’s denim dress! <3 <3 <3
You two are so cute! I love the pattern mixing in these photos. You look like you are having a blast!

Elise,
I loved your top, the color até so beautiful!!! And the mix were very cute!
Kisses from Brazil ????
I’d love to learn about a completely non-traditionally styled Thanksgiving dinner. I recently moved from a large house to a small apartment, so we don’t have a large dining table any more. We still plan to host family for holidays, but a traditional sit down dinner is impossible. What if you found recipes for turkey, stuffing, cranberries, etc. that we’re all in bite-sized grabbable portions? Then my family could fill their plates and sit anywhere in the apartment without having to worry about spilling gravy or passing dishes of food.
Hi Ladies! I’d love to see a hair post on Elsie’s bangs! 🙂 Do you have naturally wavy hair? I do and I’ve always wanted bangs but I end up growing them out immediately after cutting them because I can’t seem to style them well enough to stay ‘down’.
Sister Style is such a fun series! xoxo
Fabulous pops of color! Love the red handbag and the peek inside! And Oh I adore that gorgeous chambray dress! So inspired by you girls!
I love how playful and vibrant this sister style is!
I love Elsie’s outfit! Definitely something I would wear. And cheers for playing in the rain.
You two are so adorable! Love it!
