I've always had a difficult time wearing black. I think it's because when I'm shopping and I have a choice between black and COLOR I always choose color. So we decided to try a themed Sister Style this week with black as the base color for both our outfits! It was a lot of fun and I loved the outfit that resulted. Do you like wearing black?

You two are just too cute!

So cute!
I have the very opposite problem.
My whole wardobe is shades of black, blue and gray. So I am trying to add more color! 🙂
I wear black too easily, and have to remind myself to add some colour.
But these outfits are great and I love Emma’s boots!
My big struggle is not wearing black! Black jeans, black shirt, black boots…. You pull it off well though 🙂
I love black! and I’m a very colorful person… but let me tell you, you should wear it more often, it looks super pretty on you!
I love wearing black but I always feel like when I do I *have* to add a pop of color.
And Emma’s boots… WOW. Those are AWESOME. Great job.
Hi Elsie!
Thanks so much for the tip on the scarfs. I have been thinking about doing this myself for a while on some old scarfs!

I wear black pretty much every day.
It’s my absolute FAVORITE to wear. It took me a long time to even realize that I do wear black most days.
The reason it grew into such a un-noticed “habit” is because in college I mainly took painting classes and the safest thing for me to wear was black incase my paints got a little bit messy (which seemed to happen quite often). I guess it just sort of stuck even after finishing school!!!
My favorite items to pair with my solid black outfits are either one main piece of jewelry that has a bright pop of color or Ill add just what you did, something STRIPED because next to black, my second favorite thing to wear is anything that is striped!!!
I adore this post.
Gorgeous styling girls! I wear black all the time, probably too much. You have both inspired me to embrace the world of colour in my wardrobe, but I do still love black as the perfect staple colour and white makes a lovely accent. And Emma those boots are amazing!
Sophie xx
I pretty much only wear black as a base color. Sometimes I’ll layer colorful pieces on top of all the black but it’s where I usually start an outfit. I love the chic look it gives you and if you pair anything black with bright red lipstick you look fabulous for very little effort!
Great photos!!
I wear black pretty much all the time. I have to make an effort to wear some colour!!!!
i love these! especially elsie’s bun 🙂

yay for black! it’s my favorite! color is fun, but black is always nice to ground everything. 😉 slash GEE needs to die. you’re the cutest sisters ever. and emma’s new tattoo is amazing!
Emma’s boots! Oh my goodness! Fabulous 😀
Super cute, and Elsie, the hair is looking amazing. Just for a comparison, I popped over to your About page again, and the blue dress with the brights all over blew me away. You’re such a warm coloring with the hair and pink undertones, I feel like the black might be taking something away.
You know how it is, those colors you find yourself drawn to are usually the best ones for you, and you know instinctively which they are.
Emma, your boots are badass.
i Love black! Cute outfits:)

So cute, love the chevron clutch and your hair color is beautiful.
cute! I always love it when I see someone dressed well in primarily black but I never think to do it myself. here’s to ‘mastering the art’ in 2012!!

I wear altogether too much black, which is probably why I am loving these outfits so much. You ladies look great!

Those hand made boots are amazing? Who made them?
I love you guys in black, it suits you, gives you a little more a sexy look.
Emma’s boots turned out amazingly well! Love them.
Loulou
Cute.
I like wearing black! And I like striped! 🙂
Im a color-freak, but I mostly use black as my base.If I dont use a color that it;)
Love your outfits, though I only have like one black item in my closet. Why wear black when there’s a huuuge variety of colors out there?
Love love love Emma’s boots, thing I’ll have to go thirft hunting for a pair of boots to make similar ones 🙂
I’m a New Zealander….it seems to be our National colour…..I have so much diffulty wearing colour….I’ve made it a goal! I really love Emma’s boots- am going to give it a crack (making them).
Thanks for the fun posts!
Very cute. And I’m the exact opposite; wear black too often. It’s slimming and easy and stuff.
I’m a huge fan of black. But this season, I’m inspired to try more colours and prints!

I always eschew black, though when I do wear it I always think I should wear it more often! It is a good base color– but I prefer warm brown or grays…you both gave me a lot of good ideas for bringing more black into my wardrobe!

Gah! Emma’s boots are amaze-balls!The fact that she made them just got be wicked excited. I am finding boots to do this to immediately! Also you look adorbs in that dress! I love wearing color as well as black. I love your colorful outfits but Black suits you as well!

I have the exact opposite problem! I constantly catch myself wearing all black or all black and grey and have to tell myself STOP ENOUGH IS ENOUGH BLACK!
I adoooore these outfits! so cute! and that scarf is especially adorable!
i love that when you have a choice of black and color you choose color. because that helps you build diversity in your wardrobe. when i have a choice between color and black i pick black! your outfits look great btw and i love emmas boots so cute!

I wear black all the time! It’s my favorite, but then again I’m from the North East and black seems to be a pretty popular color there! 🙂
You both look fantastic! I feel like it’s hard to go wrong with classic black and white, but like you, I always, always choose color! I’ve been trying to experiment with black and white a bit lately, and it’s been fun. I actually like the results – which is certainly saying something for a color-lover like me 🙂

I wear black and grays alot. I love color, but its hard to wear {loud} colors at a very professional office. I’m learning to slowly put some color into my black and gray outfits though. Love the boots BTW!
Oh wow! As a lover of black clothing, I am thrilled by both of your outfits!!! You both have such fun style. <3 Definitely pinning this so I can copy 'em sometime! 😉
So adorable!!!! I love both of your outfits there so simple but still interesting because of the prints! Great post! I like wearing black (but I do that alot so I try hard to be colorful!) 🙂
I practically only wear black!
I LOVE Emma’s boots! Black is my favorite color. I’m forever wearing black. It makes it all the more exciting when I do where color, though.
So cute i love black
I love the combination of black and white, you pulled it off very well!
Beautiful! I love those black dresses. I wore a lot of black clothing when I was in school. There’s more color in my closet now, but it’s hard not to go back to black tshirts.

i’m diggin’ emma’s boots!
Oooh! I love your outfit, Elsie! So pretty. <3
I for one love wearing black. It's one of my favorite colors - I usually like to pair it with some color, though.
And that infinity scarf is great! I have a scarf I just might have to try that with. <3
Ohh, Elsie I love your hair in this post! So much volume!

I’m like you, I’ll ALWAYS choose color first. Always! But I do like wearing black, especially with matching tights as you did, because it can feel so mod, and I love that! Cute outfits! Emma’s boots are AMAZING! They both look so expensive!
I think it’d be cute to have a mismatch or colorblocked pair! Oh, the inspiration!
You both look amazing! I like to wear black and then add some pop of bright color with it.
I love black…I wear wayyy too much of it. LOL I have been trying to get myself to wear more light colors but I always end up going back to black. lol. I really love that scarf!

I don’t like wearing black unless you wear all black and have a really fun accessory like your clutch, or a bright headband, or better, red lipstick.

I love black and even though many people find it a little too much, I like wearing black and white. I like how you combined and all black dress and black tights with black and white accessories. This is something that I’ve got to try!!!
Love the black and white!
You both rock the black and white outfits – it looks great! Especially enjoy the second picture of you, Elsie. Fun! 🙂

It seems like I wear black almost everyday . . . 70% of my closet is black. I love color . . but black seems so much more versatile and it’s the thing I grab over and over.
I liked the strength of the black and white scarf and clutch, awesome!
LOVE your outfit. I’m a real sucker for stripes! Brilliant and easy tutorial too! Thanks!
You two are so lovely and cute <3

I love both of your confidence in posing! I always feel so dorky doing style posts. I love your style and your confidence.

u look wonderful in black 😀
I love color but I definitely also adore wearing black and white. I have a series on my blog called “Color Theory” where I examine a color that I wear a lot, and for January I actually did black and white instead of a color. You can see it here if you’re interested: http://fashionisevolution.blogspot.com/2012/01/color-theory-black-and-white.html
Oh, and I loooooove Emma’s boots. They totally look like something Helena Bonham Carter would wear! 🙂
Gorgeous! I always wear dakr colours and I am always so in awe of your brights! Thank you for some cute dark ideas as well as constant brightspiration! x
I wear way too much black. I wish I was more like you in your choosing of color over black! I love the basic dress paired with the chevron purse and striped scarf!! Adorable. iwanttheseshoes.blogspot.com
I basically only wear black and neutrals.. But this week I decided to go shopping and only buy brightly colored clothing. I love your outfits and I was wondering if you had any advice on coordinating colors and patterns. You do it so well, but it just doesn’t come naturally for me. Thanks for any advice you could give and for the cute little slice of the internet that you’ve created!
The scarf is lovely!!

there are definitely days where i like to wear all black. & emma’s diy boots are KILLER. i’d like to call them beetlejuice boots.
Gorgeous looks from both of you! I really lov the backdrop too. Makes your black and white outfit pop!
I also tend to gravitate toward color, but there’s something about black that makes me feel so good when wearing it 🙂
Lovely outfit ladies!
Love it the outfits! I want your hair colour!! 🙂

I love the scarf, where did you purchase the scarf you turned into an infinity scarf?
seriously Elsie, how do you get your hair to do that? beautiful
nice! you guys are rockin’ it! 🙂
I’ve always had a hard time wearing black, too. I prefer brighter, more natural colors like brown, red, white, and green. But, I’ve been experimenting with black more lately and really like it!
I crochet scarves like that! Love it!

I really like how your black/black outfits turned out! They’re so chic! I have to wear black for one of my part time jobs; when it was the only job I had I was going crazy because I am definitely a mix/match/colour kinda girl and wearing black all the time was getting very frustrating! Now that I can enjoy wearing some other colours at my new/second job, I actually enjoy putting some all black outfits together and always look for interesting shapes/materials to work with!
ps, I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but had never commented before… x
I have a very, very important question:
Will a 13″ MacBook fit in the chevron clutch??
🙂
I love the idea of turning any scarf into a infinity scarf. I also LOVE the chevron clutch.
HauteStandards
I can’t stand wearing black! I had to wear it everyday for a year while going to beauty school and now I dread the very thought yet I can’t seem to get it out of my wardrobe!
Ps. I’m a new Blogger and I was wondering if you could give me a few tips? My blog is allbeautifullittlethings.blogspot.com!
So many things inspired me from this post. I love the chevron hand bag paired with the infinity scarf. And those striped boots! Those are my favorite. I need to make a pair of those. Thanks for the post.

I’m very much the same way with wearing black–I’m always attracted to bright colors and prints! In fact, I tell people that stripes are my black.
