Here’s a delicious hot beverage to snuggle up with and read a good book or watch a movie with your family. What’s fun about this recipe, other than the fact you need very few ingredients and that it’s super easy to make, is that you can make this a cocktail or leave the alcohol out. Either way it’s wonderful!
Spiced Apple Cider
4-5 cups apple juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 ounces spiced rum (optional)
cinnamon sticks and apple slices to garnish
In a small pot heat the apple juice, spices and rum (if using) over low/medium heat. Stir often while the mixture is heating so the spices will blend into the juice (you don’t want any spice clumps). Once it’s hot pour into two mugs and garnish with apple slices and cinnamon sticks. Serve warm, while wearing a turtle-neck sweater (Note: turtle-neck sweater is optional).

Wait wait, Apple Cider is NOT the same as Apple Juice. The difference is the way that they’re made: Apple JUICE is filtered and pasteurized, while Apple CIDER is not — it’s “pulpier” and tastes sooooo much better. ^___^

I’m on a serious cider kick, especially on chilly nights around the fire pit. We like to put bourbon in ours. 🙂

I honestly had no idea it was this easy to make this drink! Definitely on my to-do list for this autumn season. And the turtleneck should be mandatory, not optional. 😉

Love the apple slices as decoration! Had my first apple cider last year and with the weather getting pretty cold now, it’s the perfect timing to hang out at home and enjoy some cider.

Yum! I’m making this right now! Other spices I’m considering are ginger, cardamom and cloves 🙂
where is the alcohol?
cider is an alcoholic drink
The Spiced Rum will make this an alcoholic drink.
I just tried it and made it, as I’m stuck at home sick. Really tasty, and easy for even a sick person to make. Brava, Elsie!
it looks great! I never saw a drink with nutmeg before 😛
I’ll try some drinks and I can comment here telling you 🙂

Thank you thank you thank you! As an americanliving abroad, I can now make this on cold autumn nights as well as serve it to my English boyfriend who has never had proper American cider x
Wow, delicious! I’m gonna try this very tasty and so easy.
love this stuff. its just to bad that no one in my family will drink it.
I’m going to make this for a fall party this Friday. We’re going to use fresh apple cider in place of the apple juice from many of the orchards here in Maine. We’re making two gallons of it for a party and will leave it in a slow cooker.
