If you’ve ever had food restrictions in your diet for health or allergy reasons, you know that frustrating feeling of trying to find alternatives for some of your favorite snacks and meals. I did a pretty intense diet change a few years ago to try and correct some health issues I was having at the time, and the list of things that I could eat was so teeny tiny that I just about gave up on the plan. Thankfully, I found a few staple recipes to adapt like this pepper dip and this chocolate pudding to satisfy my snack cravings while maintaining my eating path. Since the ingredients are so simple, I’ve found that it also has worked for a lot of other people that try to steer clear of their own list of items, so I thought I’d share it with you to hopefully enjoy as well!
Spicy Red Pepper Dip
Adapted from Averie Cooks’ Spicy Doritos Cheezy Dip
1/3 cup sunflower seeds (unsalted)
1/2 cup hemp seeds (try sesame seeds if you don’t have these)
1/2 of a red pepper (seeds removed)
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
OK, now it takes hours to make this dip because you have to individually clean each seed and then…JUST KIDDING! Put it all in a food processor (or blender) and blend until smooth. Easy peasy.
This dip is great with lots of different dippers, so feel free to try different kinds of chips or veggies and see what combination you like best! If you are timid when it comes to spice, dial back the spices a bit, and if you like it hot, then add a little more. The weird thing is that I don’t even like red peppers that much, but I love this dip! Think you’ll give it a try? xo. Laura

if I may ^___^ i’ll recommend as extra, to soak the seeds overnight or at least for 6 hours. Then discard the water and rinse them, It will give an extra creaminess to the dip. It think also cashew will taste wonderful in this dip!
keep up the good work girls, love your blog :*
Uh yum this sounds delicious, and easy which is right up my alley!

Look delicious! I would love to hear more about health in general on the blog or about your path to healthier eating. I am just finishing college and definitely looking forward to ridding myself of some bad eating habits I acquired over the past 4 years, so if you feel comfortable sharing I’m sure lots of us would love to read about it. 🙂

This looks really good! Would go awesome on a platter with homus and baba. It reminds me a little bit of a dip we had on a mediterranean plate that was mostly just roasted red pepper blended with feta…so good!

This dip looks easy and delicious. I work from home and often have a snack-type meal at least once a day. This dip and some crackers/veggies would be perfect for that.
This sounds delicious! A great alternative to my usual dips and humus.

Wow what a great recipe! I go off and on diet restrictions because of health and this dip looks like it would fit perfectly into my diet when I’m trying to be good. 🙂 May I ask though how it gets creamy? Is it from the oil in the sunflower and hemp seeds? It doesn’t need olive oil?

This looks so good! I’ve always been a big fan of vegetable dips like this, but I’ve never really thought of making my own. I’m putting this on my list of things to try out this summer when I have some time!
yum!

This looks delicious!
Great tip, thanks!
Laura 🙂
I think it is from the oil in the nuts and seeds, I don’t think it needs olive oil but you could add some if you want!
