So I finally saw the first flower of spring in our yard this week, and I literally squealed out loud with delight. It was a cluster of small, purple crocuses, but they may as well have been a giant tree of roses for the amount of joy that they brought me. I've been itching to do a big flower project this spring, and those pretty purple petals gave me the motivation I needed to make it happen! Here's how you can bring the outdoors inside this spring:Supplies:
– 2' x 4' wood board (you can use a strong foam core board for a lighter overall weight if you plan on hanging the sign)
– Fake flowers in various shades and shapes (use flowers from "dollar store" type places for the most cost-effective option)
– Glue gun
– Plastic 1/2" plug caps (found in plumbing supplies)
– Wooden letters Step One: Position the letters in their intended places on the board, and make marks around the letters with a pencil to use as a placement guide. Use your glue gun to glue 2-3 plugs to the back of your wooden letters (having the letters raised off the board will allow you to fill in behind the letters with flowers). Put hot glue on the bottom of each plug and use the guidelines to place the letters on the board. Allow the glue to dry.
Step Two: Gather your flowers and pull or cut the blooms off the stems. Most cost-effective dollar store flowers pull off easily from their stems, so you'll just have to trim the little plastic tips so the flowers will lay flat.
Step Three: Use the hot glue gun to place a generous amount of glue on the back of the flower, and place your flower onto the board.
Step Four: Continue to glue each flower, staggering and balancing the color placement as you go, until you have the whole board (and under the letters) covered. Make sure to have the flowers hang over the edges on the sides so the end of the board is hidden. Once the board is full, you can mount frame hangers on the back or place the board on a mantel or shelf for display. Since the letters are mounted an inch off the board, the phrase looks like it's floating on top of the blooms. For a sign this size, I ended up using at least 250 flowers to make the full floral effect, but since our dollar store flowers came at least five to a stem, it was only about $50 for all the flower suppliesβnot bad for that many petals! All in all, I think this was the perfect way to welcome in the new spring season. xo. Laura

I love this!! I secretly have a love of fake flowers.
That’s sweet!!! You all continually impress me. YAY, Spring!
I tried to find an email address on your website… I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the way that you label your photographs. It makes it so much easier to pin them. Also, when I am looking through my boards for an idea, I know when I see a pin from A Beautiful Mess, it’s a DIY or recipe I can trust.
In case there’s ever a doubt, I wanted to say a loud ‘YAY’ for your photo labeling!
Oh my!!! It’s lovely! I would love to see a house tour, Laura! Your home looks amazing!
Now that is a happy looking sign. Imagine the possibilities for weddings and showers! Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

You are AMAZING. The little caps to use on the back, to make the SPRING spring forward? So clever. Seriously. I wish I had a brain that worked like yours. For now, I’ll just watch you create and enjoy from afar. And maybe one day, I’ll have a lot of money and can hire someone like you to do my decorating.

Hi Laura! I am freaking in love with this project and would really like to do my own version, but I’m struggling to find the proper wooden letters. Where did you get yours? I can’t find anything online that’s sans serif/cheaper than ten bucks a pop.
Your help would be much appreciated!
Thank you,
Ilona
Wow! Seriously lovely! π
How did you do the little yellow tassels hanging from the mantle? Those are adorable and I recently moved to an apartment with a mantle!
