This morning I stepped outside in a sweater and shorts only to run back inside and change into jeans. It's getting chilly over here! I've got quite a few plants and succulents outside that need a new winter home inside the house. Here's a fun solution for creating cute planters that match the decor inside your home!
Supplies Needed: Terra cotta pot, paper clay (takes about half a pack per planter), something to stamp the clay with. and acrylic paint.
Step 1: Smooth the paper clay around the planter from just under the lip to the very bottom of each vessel.
Step 2: Use a household object to stamp a pattern all over your paper clay. We used a paint pen cap, a pen cap and a flat clay knife to create the cross pattern. Allow the clay to air dry overnight before painting.
Step 3: Paint your vessel with acrylic paint. Add more coats until it is completely covered. We used three minty paint shades to create this little set.
Enjoy your pretty new pots! Happy Sunday! xo. elsie

Great idea ! Really beautiful !
I love your blog!! I painted a terra cotta pot with acrylic paint and the paint bubbled and turned brown over time due to the porous nature of terra cotta (water seeping through). Have you had this problem?
Love you two!

Hi, I’ve been trying to make pinch pots and other items out of air dry clay. They keep falling apart as soon as they’re exposed to humidity. From the research I’ve done on airdry clays, including paper clay, they cannot take moisture. How did you get around that? Especially since clay pots are porous. Did you seal the pots before you added the clay? I can tell you’ve painted and used some kind of sealer on the outside. I would love to know how you kept them from crumbling. Thanks!
Hi Tracy! This tutorial should help 🙂

Out of so many home improvement DIY articles I have seen, this is certainly one of the most appealing to me (: I have several potted plants at home and this certainly gives my home a unique and “customized” feel, will give it a try. Shall keep you posted on the results.
