I am a huge fan of giant vintage plastic letters for home decor. I've been known to shop Etsy for hours, and this is one of the items I always end up favoriting. I rarely buy them, though. The price tags can be a little daunting, it's intimidating to choose the perfect words and sometimes difficult to find all of the letters needed. So this week I created a quick, easy and inexpensive version of giant letters. They can be easily made for your next party or seasonal decor. Here's how! Here's how to make them! 1. Print out your favorite font on 11×17 paper (or larger). We added the font to each page in photoshop and then had them printed at our local copy shop. The fonts we used here is "Univers". 2. Cut the letters our and trace them onto cardboard. Cut them out with an exacto knife. Be sure to have two more pieces of cardboard under this layer while cutting and use a piece for your letter without folds or tears. 3. Paint each letter with spray paint or two coats of craft paint. 4. Trim any messy cardboard from the edges with scissors and display them in your space.I can't wait to make more letters for our next party or shower. xo. Elsie

This is such a cool idea. My friend recently got married and used porcelain letters (first letter of their names) and put it next to their wedding cake. For example it was A & C next to their cake and it looked amazing.
Great Idea

Super adorable!
I did the same thing not too long ago, but I wrapped the letters in yarn. And here I thought I was being innovative, cutting them out of cardboard instead of buying expensive wood letters. haha :0)
Cute!!!
I love the little pop of colour the letters give to every little room ‘scene’ they’re in. Makes me feel like spring is in the air!

another idea would be with foam – not the cushy kind – the harder stuff – and cover with glitter! I just saw some cool antique metal ones today but they are really expensive.

If you want more of the 3D effect, you can buy paper mรขchรฉ letters at craft stores like Joann’s and Michael’s. They usually run about $10 each, and then you can paint or otherwise finish to match your decor. Fun times!
You could use Gummed Paper to neaten up the edges too, and then they might be a little more durable. ๐
It makes your room look like a real life collage!
I love anything when it comes to BIG letters for home decoration. The XO is great!

Good idea with the cardboard. I’ve always made mine out of 1/4 inch foam board. To make a lawn decoration, just hot glue wooden skewers to the letters & anchor them in the front lawn (great for parties & showers). Another idea is to hot glue paperclips to the back & hang them on fishing line for a fun floating decoration.
Thanks for the great blog!
I like so much this idea. It’s a easy form to create a new forms with excelent colours and textures.
