Hi, guys. It’s Mandi! For years I’ve stored my necklaces on simple nails hammered into my bedroom walls, which, you know, ain’t no thang… but now? Now I feel like a full-fledged adult because I have both pretty jewelry and a fancy way to showcase my favorite pieces and family heirlooms. This little display can be adapted for brooches, necklaces, or bracelets, and uses vintage cheese boxes for the frame, but you can use any ol’ box you can find. Check out how easy it is to make your own!
Supplies:
-boxes (I used vintage cheese boxes that I found at the flea market)
-felt
-foam (for brooch display)
-two cup hooks (for necklace or bracelet displays)
-screws
Tools:
-power drill
-pen
-serrated knife
-fabric scissors
-hot glue gun
Step One: Trace around the box for your brooch or pin display, making an effort to get the shape of the inside of the box.
Step Two: Cut out the foam you traced onto and make sure it fits perfectly inside the box.
Step Three: Cut out a piece of felt using the foam as a guide. Be sure to leave a 1/2″ border around the edges for the next step.
Step Four: Wrap the foam with the felt, using hot glue to hold the felt in place around the sides.
Step Five: Mount the boxes onto the wall. I simply drilled pilot holes through the boxes into drywall, then screwed in two machine screws for each box.
Step Six: Cut out a piece of felt to fit inside of the necklace/bracelet display box. Cut two holes at one end for where your hooks will be placed.
Step Seven: Run hot glue on the inside of each box and insert the foam (for the brooch display box) or just the felt (for the necklace/bracelet display box).
Step Eight: Drill pilot holes in the necklace display box for the hooks. It is important that you have cut holes in the felt before drilling, or the drill bit will drag and pull the fabric.
Step Nine: Screw the cup hooks into place with your hands.
Now fill the boxes with your jewelry, and the display is complete! If you need extra storage, you can even add hooks to the bottom of the boxes to dangle bracelets or more necklaces.
I love the way the jewelry display keeps my accessories out in the open so I don’t forget about any of my beloved items. And doesn’t it look so charming? It’s like artwork on the walls! –Mandi

This is such a great project! I’ve been keeping my jewelry on a two panel corkboard, but my cats always knock it over…I think this might finally keep my jewels (okay pieced of plastic and fake metal) out of harm’s reach! Thanks!!

I love this. I’d probably use picture hooks on the back of the box instead of screwing it right into my wall, that way if I ever move I can take it with me without having to take it apart.

Such an amazing idea, this would look perfect in my room. I have so much jewellery that I’d like to display too. xxx
I’ve never seen anything like this but I love how vintage it looks! I think if I made this, I would seem very mature, haha. Thanks for the idea! 🙂

How fun! Now I need to find me some old cheese boxes!
Lovely. I live in a city where there’s lot of dust and it collects too soon… so I wish this had a dust screen or something… but then the element of display will go….
Mandi, Thank you for being brilliant… I am going to try this with wine boxes. My accessory closet is begging for a makeover.
Happy creating O’ Awesome One!
This is an excellent DIY project for the bedroom. It’s easy to forget about the pieces you have if they are stacked on top of each other in a drawer. I think this would look just as great in a kid’s room as well.
This is such a cool idea! I like the recycled boxes being used it means so much to be able to create cool new stuff by reusing old stuff! I’m going to try this with an old apple box that’s in the garage. If it’s a big box how many screws do I use? How big should they be? Also, can I use contact paper instead of felt?
This is amazing, and so cute! I have lot’s of necklaces myself, and I’m positive this will stop them from forming those annoying knots.
I don’t have a lot of jewelry, but I love this pretty little display!

Oooooh! Good idea! The best part of this is you can use any kind of box that’s sturdy. Good excuse to empty a wine box. 😉 -Mandi
As far as strength for hanging goes, I would check out the hardware you’re using to hold it— It should give you a weight limit for how much it will hold. If you use drywall anchors, I think it’s typical for each anchor to support up to 50lbs of weight. The screws I used are the ones I had in my supply drawers, but if you are buying screws, I would get drywall screws. Also, you might want to put a washer behind them, just to be on the safe side.
I only used felt because it’s what I had on hand, and it worked great for the brooch display (you can stick pins in and out, and the marks aren’t visible), but if you’re only doing the necklace display with hooks, you can definitely use contact paper! Good idea! 🙂

That’s exactly why I only ever hang my necklaces! Otherwise they just end up in a big, knotted mess. -Mandi
