We're smitten with her charming space!Fun touches at Back in the Day BakeryBake in the Day Bakery"Hi! My name is Cheryl Day and I own Back in the Day Bakery with my husband Griff; it's a neighborhood bakeshop in Savannah, Georgia. Our specialty is handcrafted American scratch baking and I think it is the best job in the world.

Along with being a baker I am also an author of cookbooks. "The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook" with Artisan Books is about our tried and true recipes and how we enjoy living a handmade life. We were named Amazon's along with Food and Wine Magazines top 25 cookbooks of 2012. Such an honor! I am currently working on our second book."

At Work With Back in the Day BakeryLovely Work Area"I rise early at 3:30 a.m. and head into the bakery for my favorite time of day. Early morning is quiet time and I am in the baking zone. I start making breakfast pastries followed by other sweet treats like cupcakes, cookies and pies. Once our doors open, the hustle and bustle is in full swing and the bakery smells amazing. When you walk in the door you can't help but smile at our marshmallow chandelier and I love seeing all the smiling faces that graciously come visit to support what we do. My day is filled with timers, questions, telephones and meeting guests who come from near and far to visit our little bake shop."

Gorgeous vintage chandelierDSC_1701Back in the Day Bakery"I love to repurpose vintage treasures to organize my tools. My kitchen has an industrial vibe so I take every opportunity to repurpose something old in a new way.  I love the juxtaposition of industrial and pretty things too. I rarely use things for what they are intended. For example, my beautiful hand painted tape dispenser holds my shiny tape measure spool, the old mattress spring acts as my inspiration board, pie plates hold outgoing mail, recipe box holds birthday cards, an old metal shop display is my bookshelf."

Pretty vintage touchesCheryl Day, owner of Back in the Day Bakery"People often ask me if I have always had a love for vintage items and the answer is YES! I like to describe my personal style as vintage bling. I love beautiful, glitzy, girly things. I love the history attached to something old from clothing to furniture. I always try to imagine the stories they might tell."
