ABM Book Club: March Selection

March bookI'm excited to announce next month's ABM Book Club selection: Jhumpa Lahiri's The Lowland. I have been a fan of Lahiri since being "forced" to read Interpreter of Maladies in college. I truly loved The Namesake (both the book and film) and am very excited to read her most current novel. It's won a few big awards and garnered a lot of good press. (No big deal.) So my expectations are way up! March is going to be a fantastic month to join in if you've been on the fence about this whole book club thing

Also, we will be discussing The Fault in our Stars on Friday, February 28. I think we should have a contest over who used the most tissues while reading this book. Right? I think I *might* win that one. πŸ™‚ xo. Emma

  • I was half way done with The Fault in Our Stars when it was due at the library and I couldn’t renew. I am giving the library about another day to get me a copy before buying it. I have to know how it ends. I love Jhumpa Lahiri’s novels. I cannot wait for this new one.

  • read the fault in our stars in a day and a half and could barely function for the next few days, i was just so stuck inside the book still it was hard to get back to “real life”…but in the best way possible πŸ™‚

  • I loved The Namesake and Interpreter of Maladies. I didn’t know she had a new book out, so YAY! OK, I will also admit: I wasn’t super pleased with the movie they made of The Namesake. But to each her own, Emma! πŸ˜‰

  • Love the front cover of this book, so appealing (:
And I’ve just started reading the fault in our stars and its so good

  • The Fault in our Stars is absolutely fantastic! Although I agree that it’s a total tear fest. I used to run a book group a few years ago and I really miss it. It’s so easy to make excuses and let general busy-ness get in the way of reading and thinking. I’m in for next month πŸ™‚

  • Aaahh I basically cried continuously the entire second-half of the book both times I’ve read it :'(

    Excited for some discussion <3

  • I was not expecting that ending in The Fault In Our Stars. I can’t wait to read The Lowlands. I am such a huge fan of Jhumpa Lahiri and I got other friends into her writing.

  • Just finished this last week! I love all her stuff and this one was great as well! Enjoy!

  • Perfect timing! I read The Fault In Our Stars earlier this month and I finished The Round House this morning. The Lowlands is one of the many, many books in my “read me next” pile, so I’m ready to go.

  • Love love this monthly Book Club, im french so it’s more difficult for me to read in english, and im not able to finish to read it by feb 28th, but ill ordered the book and ill do my best πŸ™‚

  • I love Interpreter of Maladies. I also read that my second year of college!

I read The Fault In Our Stars in a day because I just couldn’t put it down. It was so good!!

  • LOVED The Fault in our Stars… a truly incredible book. Excited to read this next one! Mindy Kaling named her character on The Mindy Project after Jhumpa Lahiri

  • Perfect choice! I started this book a few weeks ago, and have stalled…(been too busy, not because it wasn’t good!) So this is great motivation to pick it up again!

  • I just bought a fault in our stars and I am hoping that I can finish it in time for the discussion!! Loving this book club – makes me really happy to be a part of it and get back into reading great books!

  • I love this whole “Book club” idea. I never know what to read next and you always have a suggestion for me πŸ™‚
As I’m german I can’t read English very fast so it took me a bit longer to finish “The Interestings” from January and so I didn’t start with the february book. I’m happy that you already announced the march book, so I can already start with this one. I’m very excited about it!

  • That’s fun…I was “forced” too reading Interpreter of Maladies at Uni…million miles away from you, in Italy. Beautiful stories, A Temporary Matter’s my favorite.

  • I really enjoyed this book, and it was a nice change of pace from her short stories (though I still do love them the best).

  • Hi Emma, I’m so excited to find out you’ll be featuring another book in your book club! The Lowland sounds very moving and thought provoking – I’m definitely keen to read it!!

  • I’d love to join the next discussion. I absolutely loved the book (after the twentieth tissue, I stopped counting…).
I just wanted to know what time the next discussion will be.
    Thanks!!!

  • I finished The Fault in Our Stars in two days. Can’t wait to discuss it & I just ordered The Lowland! Can’t wait!

  • Would it be possible to get the next book titles just a little earlier? I’d love to join in, but the books are popular enough they’re always on back log at the library. This one sounds like a great read! Thanks so much for putting this together!

  • Hey Emma, I have a suggestion for another month. A book I just finished in 2 days called ‘the vanishing act of esmΓ¨ Lennox’. Really interesting and thought provoking plus easy to read. I didn’t get a chance to read February’s book (I’m on a real life book group too) but I hope to join again in March. Thanks. Zoe

  • Kind of unrelated, but I love the cover design of this book! And I look forward to the TFIOS discussion as it’s my favourite book!

  • i have one more book of his to read but for all its worth John Green is an amazing writer.

i suggest taht you read papertowns by him when you get a chance!!!!
(and save an abundance of katherines for last….)

  • OMG is it time for the March selection already?! I haven’t had time to start February’s pick! :/ is it just me, or did this month FLY by??

  • Hi would like to know how do you join the ABM? Is it simply reading the book that is for the month and later on we join a section of the webiste for discussion?
    Thanks

  • It’s interesting to see what you can learn about a person by their book choices. I loved The Fault in Our Stars, but the January read and this one are both way out of my zones. It’s definitely stretching to read stuff that you’re not usually drawn to.

  • CRAZY. I just happened to finish The Fault In Our Stars today unaware of the fact it is February’s book club pick! Ah, I am so excited to talk about it on Friday! Yay :]

… Going to download the next book on my Nook now!

  • I just stumbled upon you the other day, and I love you blog!

I’m absolutely sold to the fact that you have monthly little book clubs here, too! And also that you’ve finished reading Fault in Our Stars (currently started first couple of pages, but it’s on my smartphone’s Kindle app, and I prefer actual book in hand. It’s distracting!). I’ve loved what I’ve read so far.

And I LOVE Jhumpa Lahiri’s works, too! I was fortunate enough to hear her speak on my campus last year I believe. Her and Margaret Atwood.

    Sold (even more)!

  • I absolutely loved “the fault is in our starts” , I went by your recommendation last moth and read it in less than a week.. πŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to this one.

  • I think it is awesome that you guys are doing a virtual book club! I didn’t read The Fault in Our Stars (I started it, but things like that in all their gory detail creep me out), but I am super excited to join in for March! Going to order The Lowland from the library right now!

  • Hi there! I’m a huge fan of your blog and I’m really excited to join March’s read! πŸ™‚ Much love from Manila, Philippines xx

  • IΒ΄m a bit late, but I loved this book. It was great, I love that your doing this, you always come up with really good books. When I read both laughed and cried, a great book in other words

  • I’ve been loving this read! Extra tissues needed since I’m also a mommy-to-be – so those hormones have me extra weepy with this story! Looking forward to joining the discussion πŸ™‚

  • I’m a little late in starting to read The Fault in our Stars, but I managed to finish it while on our family Spring Break. I literally (love this in the book) could’t put it down. In fact, I went to bed with the book and an hour later found myself carry it and a handfull of tear stained, decomposing tissues with me to use the restroom. (See, I literally could not put it down!) Thank you for this selection, and I look forward to reading The Lowlands and all future ABM book club selections.

  • Im am so enjoying the lowlands, however I am so worried I wont make it to read it all on time… So distressed…
