Summer time has us in the mood for refreshing beverages. We love a good cocktail but there are plenty of delicious non-alcoholic drinks to be made as well! Currently we are loving Agua Frescas, which are a lighter version of fresh fruit juice. Here are two simple recipes for making your own Agua Fresca.Watermelon and Mint Agua Fresca, makes 6-8 servings.
Needed: 8 cups seedless watermelon cubes, 2 cups water, 5 tablespoons honey or sugar, 1/4 cup lemon juice (plus a few slices for garnish) and mint sprigs.
In a blender combine the watermelon, water, sweetener of choice and lemon juice. Liquefy! You can strain this through a fine mesh sieve or leave the pulp in. Add mint sprigs and garnish with lemon slices.
Cantaloupe and Thyme Agua Fresca, makes 6-8 servings.
Needed: 8 cups cantaloupe cubes, 2 cups water, 5 tablespoons honey or sugar, 1/4 cup lime juice (plus a few slices for garnish) and thyme sprigs.
In a blender combine the cantaloupe, water, sweetener of choice and lime juice. Liquefy! You can strain this through a fine mesh sieve or leave the pulp in. Add thyme sprigs and garnish with lime slices.
Enjoy these over ice! And, if you're feeling it, add a splash or two of vodka or rum. xo. Emma

oh I had no idea what this was when I saw the blog title but I found it funny because “Água Fresca” means ‘Fresh Water’ in my language (portuguese)! it looks super yummy, thanks for sharing! 🙂
Looks very refreshing and summery! 🙂
Its strange, because Agua fresca means fresh water, but it looks delicious anyway!

I love melon in the summer, so these sound perfect – probably would be tempted to add a splash of rum! Unfortunately UK isn’t hot yet…also wonder if these recipes could work as ice lollies!?
I have to admit, I’ve never even heard of agua fresca, but these both look so good! I’m a lemming for anything watermelon and I have a couple in the fridge, so it looks like that one’s first (along with mint leaves from my windowsill!). <3
Both look and sound delicious!
Love those! Delicious!

So cute! I’m mexican and this is a very trad2itional way to beat the heat here in Mexico.
The “agua fresca” can be made out of almost any juicy fruit: watermelon, lime, lemon, guava, strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, orange… you can try even Jamaica flowers (that happens to be known like “hibiscus”… never thought of it’s name in other places!!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_tea), the recipe is very simple: just boil a bunch of jamaica flowers, then when the water gets all dyed (and flavored of course) mix this concentrate with more cool water, add sugar to taste, let it cool and/or add ice cubes.
This agua fresca is one of my favorites!!
sorry, the link didn’t work ^^U here it is:

Agua fresca is what we drink every day in México!!! You can make it of any fruit!!! I love lime, lemon, strawberry, orange, tangerine, grapefruit…!!! And the best is jamaica!! It’s a flower! The 3 more traditional are jamaica, tamarindo (a mexican fruit) and horchata (the rice beverage). They are so delish!!!
Love the mint and thyme thing, Emma!! 🙂
I love blended watermelon! Sometimes I blend coconut milk in as well. So refreshing!

Hola! I’m from México and I can tell you the aguas frescas of horchata and jamaica are the best here, you have to test them. I live in San Francisco de Campeche a small walled city near the sea, filled with legends of pirates, here very hot, in these days of summer the temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius and fresh water are the best for heat dissipation
It was a glorious day. So much fun!!!It doesn’t get much better than that!
