Becki Owens"In 2002 we moved into this San Clemente, CA home. I was pregnant with my first child. We knew we wanted to live in a community near the ocean, but it was hard to find something unique with a larger yard. We lucked out with our home location. It sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, with an oversized yard and backs up to a large field. Since moving in, I’ve had three more children. We’ve put in a sports court and full size skateboard ramp. Our home is definitely an indoor/outdoor home. Since it is a typical California tract home, I knew right away I would want to customize it. We originally didn’t add flooring, just coated cement. Later, I added light oak hardwood floors. The kitchen was standard maple cabinetry and white tile. I eventually remodeled it and made it into a crisp, white, more modern space.

"My favorite space in my home is my kitchen. It’s our gathering space. I’ve held many special events here…baby showers, birthdays, etc. But it is also the space we have our nightly family dinner and the place I get to hear about my kids' day. We love to relax, have a treat and chat.  We updated this space affordably with a new subway backsplash from Home Depot, 3” mitered edge marble countertops, and Ikea hardware (you can read about the remodel here). These updates transformed the space. I love it’s fresh feel.

"The mid-century chair in the living room is an heirloom from my husband’s Grandmother. I sanded and painted it to update it.

"The white floors are bamboo wood and coated with a white epoxy. They have held up great with only some slight shifting, and they don't show scratches or wear and tear.

"We have now lived in our home 12 years. It’s been a process to make it my own. I haven’t done it all at once. We did the kitchen after we lived in it for a while. I’ve enjoyed updating it slowly with collected finds and personal items!"
