Blackberry Cilantro Margarita

Blackberry Cilantro MargaritaWhat time is it? Margarita time. Alright, alright, alright, alright.

Today I’m here to share a recipe that is tart and sweet and smoky and FUN. If you like weird cocktails, you’re gonna love it. Even if you don’t… you might.

1Blackberry Cilantro Margarita, serves one.

1.5 ounces tequila
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce simple syrup
fresh blackberries
juice of one lime
fresh cilantro
sea salt
honey

First, prepare your glass by brushing the outside of the rim in honey and rolling it in coarse sea salt.

253In a shaker, combine the tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, 8 fresh blackberries, juice of one lime, and 6-8 sprigs of fresh cilantro cut or chopped into small pieces.

3Use a muddler to crush the blackberries into the shaker til it’s all just one, big, mushy mess. 🙂

6Add ice and shake-shake-shake!

7Strain your drink into your glass with ice. Add a lime and you’re ready to serve it!

P.S. If I had a time machine, which I do not, I would go back and mix in some chopped cilantro with the sea salt for the rim. The cilantro flavor is subtle in comparison to the tequila and berry flavors. I’ve heard that 80% of what you taste comes from your sense of smell (is this true?!), so I think a little scented rim would be reallll fun.

There’s always next time, right? Oh yes, there will be a next time for this drink.

  • I loved your concrete countertop makeover but it seems you never photograph any recipe shots off of it. Why is that? Is the concrete countertop still holding up well?

  • Hey Emily!
Really? I feel like it’s in photos all the time.

It’s holding up awesome! I will probably do it in my next house. We all love it!

    xx- Elsie

  • That looks so good Elsie, thank you for sharing. Just so you know you guys are a daily inspiration to all of us over here at Nikita & Vesper. As we continue to grow our shop (and our dreams) what you and your sister have accomplished is constantly in our thoughts, and consistently encouraging.

  • Well, I don’t drink. Like, at all. I would love to try this minus the alcohol though. I bet it would still be good. I love the blending of the flavors and this looks like a refreshing drink for the warmer weather 🙂

    Love and luck,

  • I think that you eat with your eyes first, then your nose and the mouth comes in last. I think that the cilantro rim is a great idea!

  • I see a pepper in the ingredients photo…is that something you played with but didn’t put in the final version?

  • i love that you threw in that “Alright, alright, alright, alright.”

i just got rid of my 1800 bottle actually. thats some pretty strong stuff!
but ill definitely be trying this soon!

  • Hi Laurali,

I am planning to do a mocktails post in the near future! There are some that don’t taste different at all (Virgin Bloody Marys, anything with Ginger Beer and some stuff with sparkling water) but there are also some that really don’t taste like anything (but juice) when you omit the alcohol- and sadly margaritas are one of them.

Anyway- thanks for motivating me to finish that post! I’ve been thinking about it for, like, a whole year! 😀

    xoxo! Elsie

  • Wow! This is an interesting margarita Elsie! 🙂
I think you should checkout “Bar Rescue” on Spike tv.

  • It’s so cute seeing you shake the shaker and you seem to have so much fun. It made me smile as well. 😉
    Much love, Eva from Germany

  • What a perfect summer cocktail! My mouth is watering over those photos… oh my yum… I cannot wait for an excuse to make this drink! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Elsie, I would LOVE to see some mocktail posts, as I don’t drink either! I’ve been getting into making a variety of cultural drinks lately (ie. Horchata!! yum.) but would also like to expand to making mocktails 🙂

  • I’m a Margarita gal from way back. I happen to love, love cilantro/coriander and it has such a delicious fresh taste, It’s a sure fire way to ‘special up’ summertime drinks.

Those pictures make me glad the weekend is nearing 😉

  • I love your blog. However, you have a lot of alcohol on your site. I usually don’t mind, but my hubby is in recovery for alcoholism and I work in the Chemical Dependancy Unit. Do you have any good recipes for non-alcoholic drinks that you could share?

  • Oy! Elsie I love your little smirks in these shots, looks like you had so much fun making this!
Gonna try out this recipe when the weather gets warmer around here!

  • #JUICERATION !! Sorry, I couldn’t help it. The sponsorship post from earlier had me cracking up and then I saw this post w/ a beverage recipe.

Great work, guys! I love your content and am happy to hear you’re not falling for lame hashtags or being bullied into doing posts you’re not into.

  • Putting this on the half to try list!! I also wanted to commend that I love some of the “messy” photos in this post. Keeps everything real as if you just happened to be making this, not for a post or anything. Love it!

  • Chiming in super late over here–but, YES! Elsie, you’re exactly right. Sense of taste is comprised by about 80% smell and 20% taste buds. How do I know? I don’t have a sense of smell (haven’t since I was 9 years old) and I only taste (on average) about 20% of what the average person tastes. Luckily, my trusty taste buds haven’t given up on me…or I’d be lost! This cocktail looks der-licious. I may need to give it a whirl. 🙂
