Breakfast at Gailey’s

Breakfast dateTrey and I have a ritual of getting breakfast most Saturdays, and one of our favorite local spots is Gailey's Breakfast Cafe. It's a cozy spot in downtown Springfield that I'm pretty sure started out as a pharmacy back in the 40s. The servers are the sweetest, I never see the bottom of my coffee cup, and they make some mean hashbrowns. It's a perfect background to just unwind our brains and talk.Coffee cups and an engagement ringEmma and treyHashbrowns and yogurtIt seems like our Saturday conversations have shifted from immature jokes and work ideas to full-on wedding planning (!!!!). We finally got our date and venue booked. But what color should the bridesmaid dresses be? What kinds of desserts should be at the cake table? What about flowers, invites, drinks, and the list goes on. We have yet to send out save the dates. We're late. So the world is probably going to explode at any moment. Gailey's breakfast dateBon look glassesGailey's in Springfield, MOEmma chapmanBut we're not letting wedding planning completely take over, as we've got a number of fun things going on. We're currently finishing up our first month of P90X (I hate it, but I love it). We have a few home projects planned, the next one involving tree stumps. And we've started a writing project together.

  • I love this post! So nice to take a peak into your Saturday mornings. You guys have so much excitement coming up and I’m looking toward to seeing it all unfold!

  • Saturday morning is my favourite time of the week. When my fiance is here ( he’s on deployment right now) I make is something sweet for breakfast. Then we head out to do the food shopping. It sounds boring but its a lovely way to unwind from the week (our jobs mean we see each other very little Monday through Friday). We buy smoothies to drink, we sometimes get a DVD to watch or buy some house decor. We turn something really routine into a date. I love it.

  • We like to spend part of Sunday afternoon in bed after a good lunch. It’s nice to have snuggle time with your sweetie.

  • I love local breakfast spots like this one.
My weekend rituals always involve sleeping in and drinking lots of coffee – always relaxing.

  • You guys are too cute. Cannot wait to hear what you have planned for the wedding, I just know it will be fabulous.

  • What a fun ritual! I love breakfast restaurants. There is a place in NH I never get to visit anymore that makes the most delicious breakfast ever, with homemade cinnamon raisin toast that is an inch thick. *sigh* But the deli in my town makes the best breakfast sandwiches ever, so that’s good too.

On Saturday mornings we usually get coffee before my boyfriend goes to pick up his son, who’s with us from then till Tues. morning – the rest of the weekend is family time and we have dinner with bf’s folks a lot on Sundays. Hooray for fun weekends πŸ™‚

  • I wish we had cute breakfast places where I live, but sadly there’s just IHop. You guys make an adorable couple, too!

  • You guys are quite adorable! Looks like a fun breakfast tradition- I know I love my post-church Sunday brunches with my guy, so I know how special those weekly dates are! Good luck with the wedding planning- I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

  • I’m really jealous. I got engaged in December, and we’ve had such a hard time booking a venue!! How did you lock it down so fast??

  • Adorable photos! Sounds like a great tradition.

On weekends we do a lot of errands. Grocery shopping on Sundays is a must! My boyfriend thinks it’s fun…I’d rather stay home.

  • place looks lovely! I love having breakfast in places like that
    cute pics!
how exciting is to prepare your wedding right?

  • Cute restaurant! I love a tradition that revolves around food πŸ˜‰ Especially tasty breakfast food served in a retro cafe next to my cute fella!

  • You guys are the cutest. I can’t wait to hear how your wedding turns out. Elsie’s was quite the treat, and I know yours will be too!

  • HA! Nice p90 joke. Hate fifer scissors yet? Wait until you get to core synergistics. That’s the one that usually makes me throw up.

  • Since I currently work retail, Saturday mornings aren’t usually anything special. Friday nights, however, are; even though I usually work Saturdays, I don’t have to go in until 10, and I try to keep other things (like graduate school work and workouts) on a M-F schedule, so I still feel like I can unwind with my husband (who teaches M, W, & F) on Friday nights. Usually I come home from work and he’s gone to the store with fixins for some red-wine appropriate meal, like steak, or spaghetti bolognese. I whip us up a couple of martinis and then we get working on dinner together. We sip our drinks while cooking and talking, then we crack open the vino, eat our delicious dinner and chat and spin records until it’s time for bed. It’s the best, basically! Rituals like that are so important, I think. They help to ground everything else so that no matter what else is going on, you know you have Saturday breakfast (in your case!) or Friday dinner, drink & music (in our case) to look forward to!

  • Oh Gailey’s! A favorite spot for my friends and me when I lived in Springfield, and also part of our weekend ritual. They always had excellent staff- made it so cozy and homey.

  • You two are so adorable! I love your blog. My hunny and I go to the movies and happy hour every weekend. I think it’s important to have to cute rituals with your significant other. Keeping it fun and young! πŸ™‚

  • I love Gailey’s! A visit to Springfield isn’t complete without a visit to Gailey’s. Great food and ambiance and I love the music.

  • You two are so cute! My morning Saturday ritual involves walking to the local farmers market to buy my groceries for the week. I love to take my time, take photos and just generally relax. Saturday mornings are truly the best!

  • My fiancΓ© and I do the same thing if he isn’t working on a saturday. We love going to a little coffee shop ten minutes from our house. They make the best veggie breakfast! We’re also wedding planning so I know how you feel there haha! Everything is booked for us and I have soo many ideas in my head for flowers, hair and table settings etc. but still have so much to do. I have my dress so at least that’s one thing not having to worry about!:)

Can’t wait to see what ideas you have planned and of course your dress!! Have a great weekend Emma and Trey. Lulu xx

  • I drive home to my parents’ house every Sunday morning, sometimes with, sometimes without my boyfriend. My little sister does the same, so we have weekly Sunday morning breakfasts with Mum and Dad, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I hate when we don’t get to do this because my parents are away or I dont have time.
I think when I have children, we will still be heading to the countryside to have breakfast with my folks on Sundays πŸ™‚

  • What a nice place to have breakfast! My Saturday ritual is to wake up late (I love morning sleep πŸ™‚ have my breakfast and then drinking my hot chocolate- I do homeopathy so coffee is out of my list (tears here because coffee is the only thing I really really miss)I browse my favourite blogs and new blogs I come across. When I finish my drink I go to the local market to buy vegetables and fruit for the week. This is so refreshing! love your pictures! can’t wait for your ideas for the wedding!

  • I love this post and I love sunday breakfasts out with my love too πŸ™‚ Can I just ask though, who is taking these photos? How do you get photos of the two of you to look so natural, when there only seems to be the two of you there? Whenever I try it just turns out awkward. Do you ask strangers to do it? I hope this isn’t a stupid question. xx

  • Nice pics! We usually sleep longer on Saturday and Sunday and have bigger breakfast as I don’t have to hurry to work. On Sundays we often go for a short trip or a walk. I love weekends!:D

  • Such a cute couple! I’m glad to see your post on ABM right after reading that you will not make me laugh on your personal blog anymore!!

  • I absolutely adore your glasses, they’re wonderful!
I wish you all the best of luck with your wedding planning and hope that you have a wedding to remember, you truly deserve it πŸ™‚
    Betty xo

  • What a beautiful tradition! The hubs and I need to start doing something like this more often. It’s so important to remember to take time to slow down and connect with the people you love!

  • I love your Saturday tradition!
we don’t really have any weekend traditions at the moment
because my husband works shifts πŸ™ maybe one day!

  • Sweet ritual, and you are the cutest couple! In Jamaica we all get together for dim sum
on a Sunday….and then hit the beach! Love the pharmacy-turned cafe athe cups
and plates look like fiesta ware….nice.

  • Congratulation ! Marriage on the cards πŸ™‚
Love the place & you both make such a pretty couple Elegance Stylized Blog

  • What a cute spot! I work Saturday mornings, so my usual routine is to race out of the studio straight after teaching, hightail it to the city for a Charleston dance class (so much fun!), and then meet my husband and wander around somewhere beautiful! We’re fortunate to be spoilt for choice here πŸ™‚

  • I’m getting married this August eeeek! Can’t wait to start seeing your wedding posts. I hope there are some good DIY’s up before our big day!

  • Love these pictures. Such a great tradition to have breakfast every Saturday, I really want to start something like that too πŸ™‚

  • Cracking up about the “I hate it, but I love it.” My husband and I say this to each other in Tony’s voice just about every day. That dude is INTENSE.

  • Seriously, someone needs to import great breakfast diners into the UK … greasy spoons just ain’t the same …
Tree stumps … sounds interesting, can’t wait!

  • OMG! I’m gonna cry!!! You look so lovely awesome beautiful together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :’) XOXO! My best wishes!!! -A! β™₯

  • I love Gailey’s!! You & Elsie suggested it to my husband and I when we were in town, and we loved it! Such a cute place πŸ˜‰

And you two are just darling together <3

  • The Boy and I plan cooking schedules & organize recipes into fun menus for our weekend mouth parties. We love working the magic in the kitchen, so that’s our ritual! Good luck wedding planning!

  • the glasses photos are geeking me out. when we were wedding planning last year, we would walk every sunday after church to nina’s, our favorite coffee place, for coffees and the most delicious scones in the world. then we would make decisions for our (quickly planned!) wedding day.

  • I love hanging out at The Mudhouse on Sunday. Also since I was a little girl, my dad would always make pancakes for my sister & I. I often make pancakes on Sunday morning even now as an adult. πŸ™‚

  • I live for weekend’s breakfasts!!! And enjoy your wedding preparations… afterwards you will miss them!! I prepare almost all my wedding by myself and when everything was over I really missed all the anticipation and excitement!

  • Love these photos! My boyfriend and I like to go to a diner near us for breakfast- it’s a lot of fun because we’ll randomly see lots of different friends there. πŸ™‚

  • Hi Emma!(and Elsie btw)!

I love your blog, I come here everyday, you’ re such an inspiration for me and I admire your work!

I can’ t wait to see what you are planning for Emma and Trey’s wedding!

    Kisses from Spain! <3

  • Love this! Just curious who took the photos of both of you? Did you just set a timer or did you ask someone to take them?

  • Actually ended up purchasing Trey’s glasses in the chocolate color!! Love at first sight with these glasses. Yay for new glasses!!

  • It’s a crazy time, but you look so happy. It’s important to savor every moment and it certainly looks like you are. These posts make me smile, happy chaos! I mean happy wedding planning πŸ˜‰

  • i love unique hole-in-the-wall places. πŸ™‚ You and Trey are pretty awesome together, I must say. Also, I completely stand by p90x! I did fall off the wagon, but when I did it about 2 years ago, my body transformed completely after only 2 months and I was undeniably stronger by the end of the program. I started Shaun T’s Insanity and Hip Hop Abs (don’t laugh), & well… I can now say that is the worst/best workout challenge I’ve ever experienced. Good luck to you both on… everything!

  • You guys are so cute together!!!!!! And I’m going to need to add this place to my list of places to visit someday! It looks just too cute!

My only weekend ritual is that on Sundays (if I don’t work) my boyfriend and I try to go some place fun. Whether is riding bikes around Toys ‘R’ Us, picking out new VHS’s to watch at our local goodwill, or just getting milkshakes and taking a walk by the lake- we always try to do something we enjoy together!

  • This looks like a very cute place. Now I’m definitely going to go to the restaurant when I’m driving through Springfield! My saturday morning ritual is chocolate chip pancakes, maybe not the most healthy, but delicious. Thanks so much for sharing! I always love reading what you have to write.
