• els,

i’m so there. oh am i ever.

i’m working on this in my art journal right now…here’s my favorite quote right now, that articulates it so perfectly. it’s from “Year of the Dog” (good movie for the you and me type situation. the new world you didn’t know was coming.)

“how do i explain the person i’ve become….

i believe life is magical. it is so precious. and there are so many kinds of life in this life, so many things to love. the love for a husband or a wife, a boyfriend or girlfriend. the love for children, the love for yourself, and even material things.

this _____ is my love. it is mine. and it fills me, and it defines me, and it compells me on”

    Love Leigh-Ann

  • I keep those words in my mind, thank for share it!!!

  • at the risk of sounding stoopid i will ost this

Clarity often happens when you least expect it and it’s a little like water you can’t really hold it you have to find or make something to hold it in for a while but it can become stagnant it’s best left to flow freely as it’s ever changing as it’s affected by the things that surround it! Ok I hope that made sense!? Anyhoo you sound a little down if that’s the case hope things look up for you soon, if not just ignore my mad ranting! Seeya hugya *G*

  • ooooooh what a wonderfully mysterious post, Elsie! Clarity is one of the most honest and fabulous things that can happen in life…those moment are like goldust….*oh*so valuable 🙂

Wishing you many more of those special times

  • Been going through a little of that lately too, Elsie. Your art and your words are both beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

  • Thanks for the words of “clarity”. It is very true what you said. More so is some of the comments I’ve read on this post…

  • beautiful trees. they make me think of longs walks in on fire roads in the mountains.

  • You paintings are really inspiring. They are totally making me want to learn to paint. 🙂 I’m sure you’ve been asked this many times before…but what kind of paint do you use??

  • just seeing those trees makes me want spring to get here even faster!

  • Oh wow – intriguing post, yet so totally true. Thanks for those words. They really made me stop and think.

    Goegeous art too!

  • Els – so I saw you have a new line coming out at CHA this year! COOL! You need to come out with a “pet” line – dogs, cats, etc!!

    ALSO, what happened to Justin?

  • Hi, Elsie!

I’m such a huge fan of your’s and I find inspiration in you all the time whether it be art, music, or just the way you live your life. I don’t post many comments on any of the blogs I read, but today I was hoping to inspire you with some of my favorite music ,since I know how much you love finding a cool new artists. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=201315018

While I love all her music, my personal favorite is “better for dying”. It just feels like the anthium for all of us artsy girls in love. My favorite quote from this song is “sorry I ain’t pretty like a magazine girl, but I’ll sing you songs and I’ll make you art…”

here’s hoping you love Mary-Charlotte as much as I do.

Love your new work, and keep doing your thing, you really are great at it.

  • dear elsie,

this might be a skeevish thing to ask, and if so, i apologize in advance for being creepy! but: HOW do you get your hair to do the things it does? (specifically in shots like those where you are showing off your fabulous new book.)

just curious, i dig it, + thanks. :]

  • Those moments of clarity can come while you are immersed in your art, but they are fleeting. But if all of our moments were clear, we would lose the mystery of life. Thank you, Elsie, for inspiring me to work in bold colors this year, and for Sigur Ros. Perfect music to create art by.

  • Je viens de passer un bon moment sur ton blog…tes photos sont très sympa…j’aime beaucoup ce que tu fais !!!

Désolée..je ne parle pas bien du tout anglais !!!!

  • Hi Elsie,

This post reminded me of my favorite quote:

“Purity of heart is to will one thing.”

I think it’s by Soren Kierkegaard
