It’s never been easier to customize a message just as unique as the person you’re celebrating! Whether it’s a wedding cake for your funniest friend or a dozen cupcakes for your favorite coworker, you can easily make their day more memorable with a custom inside joke or catchphrase. Add them to a floral arrangement or layer up over a simple naked cake—either way your friends are going to know they’re pretty special.
Supplies
-oven bake clay—I prefer to use Sculpey as it’s the easiest to work with.
-alphabet and number cookie cutters—I found these at a big box craft store, but you can also find something similar on Amazon.
-rolling pin
-parchment paper
–bamboo skewers
-acrylic paint and paintbrush
-hot glue or super glue (not shown)
Turn your oven on and set it according to your oven bake clay manufacturer’s instructions. Then roll out your clay between two sheets of parchment paper until it’s about 1/4″ thick or more. The trick to the best looking letters is an even clay surface.
Punch out your letters and numbers and place them on a piece of parchment paper. Put that on top of a cookie rack before placing them in the oven according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Once they’re ready, remove from oven and let cool. Paint with your favorite colors and then glue the bamboo skewers to the back.
I love the idea of layering words in a phrase from highest to lowest. No matter what you spell out with these, add it to your list of must-make decor the next time it’s your turn to host a party. –Rachel

This is a great idea! Fantastically clear and illustrative photos as always. PS I know the post is about the letter decorations but all I kept thinking about was how delicious those donuts look…

So simple and so different! We hardly see customized cake topper, unless it’s a very special occasion.
But with this DIY you can make them for every single party! Yayyy. =)

Hi! this is great! my kids birthday party is this weekend so I am thinking about making this! Thanks again 🙂
Just remember once you use something with clay… it should not be used with food in the future. Example: rolling pin, cookie cutters, even the bakeware unless you put foil down first. Just something I’ve always heard about oven bake clay
Can’t help but see this and smile. What a cute “cake”.

Hey,
Thank you! This post was like a birthday present to me because I just turned 23 on Sunday.
Cute idea. With the low temp that Sculpey is baked at, do you think if you soaked the skewers you could insert them into the letters before baking? Hmmm…may have to try it.
Love this….so cute!

So darn darling! This would be a great project for those tiny Japanese cookie cutters I’ve been using for my daughters cheese slices..
