Elsie’s Adjusted Coffee Setup

As soon as we got home from China with Marigold, I knew it was time to adjust some of our daily routines and simplify as much as possible. For the past year or so, I had been making pour over coffee each morning and the occasional espresso beverage. When we got home, I realized right away that my morning routine no longer included the time to *enjoy* a nice lengthy pour over routine.

Pre-Marigold, it had been a routine I treasured each day and I slowly poured the hot water on while slowly waking up each morning. But suddenly it was something I didn’t want to fuss with.

In our new routine, I need to wake up an hour earlier (as Nova’s school schedule has changed) and make our coffee, Marigold’s bottle AND her rice before getting her up to feed her. A lot of the time all these things take place within just 10 minutes.

There’s quite a bit more multitasking and I knew an automatic coffee maker was the way to go. I didn’t want anything instant (I don’t mind a Keurig while traveling, but it’s not my first choice for my daily morning coffee) and I wanted something decently pretty.ย Well, I ended up with something SUPER pretty instead.

I ordered this smeg coffee maker in the color cream. I had had my eye on it for a long time, but I didn’t feel like we had the extra space for yet another small appliance. For now, we ended up moving our espresso machine downstairs (my husband is still using it regularly) and I’m sure at some point when we have more “free hands” we’ll move it back.

For now, it’s so nice to have something SUPER easy and automatic each morning. It’s so pretty I will probably ask for the matching water kettle for Christmas.

I am ALL ABOUT small joys and little ways to make life simpler right now. I think it’s just part of being a new mom. I don’t have control over so many things and our schedule is pretty set, so I’m finding little places here and there to treat myself or make life a bit easier.

Have a wonderful day! xx- Elsie

P.S. My dress is from En Elly. The white powder in the canister by the coffee is collagen peptides from Vital Proteins (I add it to my black coffee every morning and it truly is tasteless).

  • Hi Elsie, long time reader here, I love the way you tell your story as a new family. I was wondering if you would write a blog post on how you share tasks with your husband. About the sacred coffee time: with my husband we split the morning routine and the bedtime routine so we have more freedom and each can have a special coffee time ๐Ÿ˜‰ and sleep 15′ more! It took us a long time we could do that, so I’m sharing the tip, just in case. Have a great sunday.

  • i’m all about small joys and simplifying too, and what a pretty appliance! i recently moved and have been making sure that everything i bring into my new home is something i absolutely love. although i am not a new mother – the change was brought about by my desire to consume less and maximize my time. my essentials kit has made leaving the house a breeze, sharing that and other kits here: https://tps-steph.blogspot.com/2019/06/0039-simplifying.html

  • Elsie, et al: the mug, the mug, the mug! Can you provide a link? Thank you and best wishes to the whole lot of you.

  • I have the smeg electric kettle and it is a serious game changer. It felt like SUCH an indulgence (we also got the toaster) but they are the best two little appliances we’ve ever had. And the aesthetic is such a nice bonus. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Have you tried the flavorless collagen peptides from Trader Joes?! It’s in a little green canister, and it’s only $9.99! I only use one scoop and it lasts me all month! You’ve gotta try it!

  • cute coffee maker! can i ask how long you’ve been taking the vital proteins and what benefits you’ve noticed?

  • I don’t know why something so small has such a big affect but I totally related to this post. We used to brew French Press each morning, but now with the chaos of getting a little person dressed and finding all the missing shoes we’ve adjusted to simple brewed coffee that appears like magic. It truly is the little things in life ๐Ÿ™‚
