Elsie’s Laundry Room Tour (Before + After)

Today I am excited to share a tour of my laundry room with you! This was by FAR the simplest and easiest room to renovate in our home, and we love the new space. It’s fresh, clean and does the job. It’s not the fanciest of laundry rooms, but it feels that way to me because I’ve never had such a spacious laundry room before.

But first, a walk down memory lane! You can see all the before photos here.

The before was not bad at all, so we didn’t change all that much. What we did was replace the linoleum floor with penny tile, replace the counters with marble (we got a discount because we did a couple bathrooms at the same time), and add peel and stick subway tile to two of the walls. We also replaced the hardware and the faucet and added a couple decor pieces, while keeping it mostly minimal… because who really needs an overly decorated laundry room anyway??

We painted the door a light seafoam to add just a little punch of color. The hanging plants are totally fake (here are some of my favorites), but they add some color to the space, and as an added bonusโ€” they will never die… haha. (The rest of the plants are real. I am a big fan of only using fake plants in hard-to-reach places.)

I love penny round and this is the only space in our home where we used it. You can see here this is also the space where our dogs have food and water.

We kept the existing storage and just updated it with a fresh coat of white paint and some new gold hardware. I love having all those shelves because we keep all our power tools, extra lightbulbs and batteries… things like that in this area. Safe from future kiddos (we already did some kid-proofing before our Home Study for our adoption).

ย I added just a couple prints from Etsy artist Bree Madden. I had them bookmarked in my Etsy faves for years. Do you ever do that?ย ย The gold hooks are from CB2 and the faucet was a super inexpensive one from Amazon ($30 I believe) that I had metal plated in brushed brass.

Right around the time we moved, I transitioned so many things in our home to more natural options. Replacing dryer sheets with these wool balls (with essential oils) was one of the easiest things we did. I love them! I also make my own cleaning sprays and things like that. It’s somewhat of a hobby now and makes me happy to know I am taking little steps toward creating a greener household.ย Thanks so much for reading! If you are new to our blog,ย you can see all my home tours here. I am about halfway done sharing the room makeovers in our home. My goal is to complete them this year (or before our adoption, whichever…). This home is truly a dream home to us. We’re planning to stay for a long time (our timeline has expanded since I’ve gotten to know Nashville real estate more… I don’t really think I could do any better anywhere even close to the price of this house).

If you have any questions about renovating, decorating or have any requests for future blog posts, I would love to hear them in the comments! xx -Elsie

  • Seeing all of your renovations/room makeovers is SO inspiring! I just can’t get enough of them! It makes me so antsy to do some work on our home. <3

  • Your green initiatives are really inspiring – I’ve taken a lot of your suggestions to heart in my own household. Thank you for your suggestions!!!

  • I would love if you guys did a post about compromising between babyproofing and keeping a beautiful house…all those safely straps and gates sure are hideous!

    • Thank you so much!! I would love to eventually share something about baby proofing, but I definitely won’t jump the gun because I don’t know much yet. :))) xx!

  • I love that it is bright, airy, and practical but still looks like a part of your home as it shares some of the color schemes and hardware. Your wool dryer balls look so cute in that jar. I’m happy I made the switch a couple years ago too. Less drying time and less artificial fragrance pollution!

  • i love the seafoam door! could you share with me the brand and color name? thank you!!

  • So beautiful! Love how light and airy it is and that seafoam door is perfect!

I’m going to have to look into those wool balls and your cleaning product DIYs. We’re trying to eliminate toxins. Thanks for the inspo!

    • Yay! You will love them. They are super simple to use. I use three balls in every load of laundry with a couple drops of essential oil per ball. I like to use Lavender and Spearmint or Lemongrass.

      xx!

  • 1) how do you use those dryer balls? you just toss them in , all at the same time? and what about smell? do you add your own smell with the oils? and if so, how so? so many questions!!!!

    2) i know you’ve mentioned it before about moving…..i know you said you were planning to stay there for about 5 years and then move but because of the market, you wont anymore. why were you planning to move again to begin with? was this just going to be a nashville starter home until you got the feel of the land? why is it harder now? or, how does that work?
i’ve never bought a home so im interested in the idea behind this!

    3) LOVE THIS POST!

    • Hi Les!

      1. You will love them. They are super simple to use. I use three balls in every load of laundry with a couple drops of essential oil per ball. I like to use Lavender, Spearmint or Lemongrass.

      2. Regarding moving, when we chose to move here we decided to stay a minimum of five years, but we were always open to staying longer. The house has everything we need to raise a family, so we won’t need to move. I figured we would make want to move, but since settling in here I love it even more than I thought I would. So we’ll probably stay. If we did move we’d do it for the schools (that’s a whole thing here). Anwyway! I just haven’t seen any houses for sale within even double what our house cost that I love more than ours… so that’s the other reason we’ll probably stay. But who knows! ๐Ÿ˜€ Never say never.

      xx

  • Hi- Love it! Do you mind sharing where you got the gold cabinet hardware? I didn’t see that listed. Thanks!

  • Love all your home makeovers. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can you share were the hanging planters are from? I didn’t see it listed anywhere. Thanks!

  • This is the most perfect seafoam green color that is all too elusive! I’d love to know the brand/color as well!

  • I love it, no need to be so modest, its a lovely laundry room. I will just keep on day dreaming about having a pretty laundry room of my own. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • love the cute dog dishes – could you share where they are from? thanks!

  • This puts our scary basement laundry room to shame ?I do want to start using the wool dryer balls though!!

  • Love it! Any chance you can tell us where you got the baskets and the glass jar for the dryer balls? Thanks!

  • It is all that a laundry room should be:) bright and cheery! And totally am impressed with how cool the stick on subway tiles look:) who knew they had such a thing!

  • So pretty! I’d love to see more yard/landscaping projects. How can your style translate to outdoor spaces? I feel totally lost working on my own yard and always love to see what the ABM team dreams up. The bee home from Rachel the other day was incredible (honestly, her posts are always gold)!

    • Thanks so much!! I am actually working on a few outdoor projects (finally!!) and planning to build a deck. I’ll be sharing our first project (a mid-century-inspired playhouse!) in June.

      xx!

  • Your house is simply beautiful, you have a great taste for decoration.
What really got my attention in this post were the wool balls. I would love to know more about your “green products” how you make them and use them. Is it possible to have a post about that? I would be very helpful! Thank you

    • Definitely! I also see it when I walk by (it’s in the hallway where all the bedrooms are) so it bugs me when it looks messy (it still often does, though!)
      xx

  • Where did you get the planter in the corner next to the wool balls? It’s super cute. Thanks!

  • It’s so serene! I love the way the plants look (hooray for plants that won’t die ;)). Also love the marble counter tops…you fancy!

  • Hi Elsie! I l adore this laundry room and the subway tile. I’d love to use it in mine but I’m concerned about heat/steam affecting the peel and stick. Have you had any issues or concerns regarding peeling due to heat?

    • Hi there!
These tiles are SO SO sticky- they will actually damage your wall if you try to remove them (like real tile). So I haven’t seen any peeling whatsoever.

      xx!

  • Was having a cheaper faucet metal plated a more cost efficient option than finding a brass faucet – o r was it just to get an exact match to the hardware? Just got some beautiful new brushed brass kitchen hardware and am having a hard time coordinating with a sink.

    • In this case it was much less expensive (probably saved $100ish) because the faucet I got was only, like, $30 on Amazon. It was really random though- it went out of stock right after I ordered it.

I love all our brass plated stuff, but where we went it took FOREVER (like 2 months haha) so that was a little annoying.

      xx

  • So cute. If you haven’t already, check in to NorWex Products. Love them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Looks great ….. I love my laundry too.
It seems like you have a high ceiling … why not also add an Edwardian airer. I have 2 in my laundry …. I especially designed the raked ceiling to follow the roof line with extra space ( plus a vent ) so I could pull the airers up ….. inexpensive, save the planet … all that hot air rises to dry the washing overnight.

  • Love what you did to the laundry room! Loving the peel and stick subway tiles! I want to do our backsplash area and tile is so expensive! This may be the perfect option.

Quick question? Where did you get your laundry basket?? Love it!!!

    Thanks!

  • What a great and easy make-over! I love everything about it! Quick question–where did you get the hanging pots? Or did you make them? I like how they’re reminiscent of 70’s macrame but with a more modern feel.

  • Such a beautiful laundry room!!

Do you mind sharing where the rug by the door is from?

  • I love it! I’m obsessed with beautiful laundry rooms! Probably because we live in an apartment with a stackable unit in the hallway right now, and I do a lot of laundry! ? I especially love the white throughout with the mint on the door, so refreshing!

  • I love this! Especially the light cool colors along with white marble. Definitely my favorite minimalist, simplistic decor right now! So pretty!

  • This is beautiful and gives me so many ideas. Thank you for sharing. Longtime admirer of your style. I have a lot of clothes that I only hang dry. I am guessing you do, too. Where do you accomplish that task–wherever you might do that seems to be hidden ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Hi Elsie,
Do you mind sharing where you got the white structured plant pot? I am totally in love with it!

  • I love this! Thanks for the inspiration. I need to get organised and sort out my laundry room – it has so much potential but it’s just a dumping ground for stuff at the moment. I need to create better storage and make homes for things. I love how light and bright yours looks.

  • Hi Elsie!

Iโ€™m in love with this! Thanks for posting! I am now inspired to do a make-over for our laundry room. You made it seem so simple and easy, yet still stylish! <3

  • Such a bright, simple refresh! Clean, organized, and a great space for laundry. I bet this room makes the terrible chore a little bit more bearable!
