Episode #26: (MINI) Our 10 Favorite Movies Of All Time

Hi friends! This week’s MINI episode is our TOP 10 favorite movies of all time.

You can find the podcast posts archive here.

Our favorite movies …

Emma: Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
(Here’s the flours scene that we mention … it’s SO cute!)

Elsie: Moulin Rouge (2001)
Anyone else in love with Ewan McGregor? Fun fact: Emma once met him on a rooftop in London (it was a meet and greet, not like a chance meeting BUT STILL) and she got his autograph for me and I had it hung up in my house for like 10 years.

Emma: Harry Potter (the whole series, but her favorite is … And The Goblet Of Fire)

Elsie: Clueless (1995)

Anyone else in love with Paul Rudd?

It looks like Urban Outfitters is sold out of the yellow plaid vinyl, but here’s another version.

Emma: Say Anything (1989)

Elsie: Dream Girls (2006)
I looooove this movie and the mansion toward the end is my number one movie dream house (here’s a link if you’re curious)

Emma: The Greatest Showman (2017)
Emma’s celebrity crush (of all time!!!) is Hugh Jackman.

Elsie: The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
(it was tough to choose just one Wes Anderson movie.)

Emma: Love Actually (2003)
-We’ll circle back

Elsie: Mary Poppins (1964)
The new one is also nice (I love Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins), but the original is pure MAGIC and so wonderful. Julie Andrews is my queen forever!

Honorable mentions …

Emma: 13 Going On 30, Bridesmaids, Sweet Home Alabama, Jerry McGuire, X-Men lol, The Neverending Story.

Elsie: Down With Love, Empire Records, Amelie, The Fifth Element, The Sound Of Music, Mama Mia Here We Go Again.

Thank you so much for listening!! This was so much fun to record. We hope you are having a safe quarantine. Love, Elsie + Emma

P.S. We’d love to hear YOUR favorite movies of all time in the comments. And if you have any requests for mini episodes, send them to podcast AT a beautiful mess DOT com

  • It is the full length episode playing, when I start to listen in this blogpost.?

  • Some of my favourite movies:

Kiki’s Delivery Service (Elsie, I think your girls would love this one, too)

Wayne’s World (I quote it all the time)

    The Secret of Roan Inish

Sense and Sensibility with Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet

Amelie, Delicacy, and A Very Long Engagement, all starring the lovely Audrey Tatou

Roman Holiday with lovely Audrey Hepburn. ❤️

  • Get Shorty
Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley
    When Harry Met Sally
    Hairspray
    The Devil Wears Prada
    Legally Blonde
    Steel Magnolias
    An Officer and a Gentleman
    Terms of Endearment

I agree with Clueless and Love Actually

  • Oh my goodness I could totally “go to the video store” with either of you and we’d both be happy!! Except Elsie, we’d have to fight over Paul Rudd, because he’s totally a Baldwin. And if either of you can find a way to watch Dear Frankie, you won’t be sorry. Ditto Paddington 2 (it looks like Amelie), Penelope, and Pushing Daisies (okay not a movie, but so charming). ❤️

  • My Top 5 are Little Miss Sunshine, Penelope, Stardust, The Holiday, and maybe The Princess and the Frog? (The fifth slot is open for debate, but that is the winner for today.)

  • Obvious Child, It’s a Disaster!, Cabin in the Woods, Happy Death Day 1&2, Moana, Black Panther, A Simple Favor, When Harry Met Sally, Spy!, The Heat, honorable mention Hereditary and It Follows

  • My girlie/sweet/sentimental side/romcom is what I’m craving right now: Princess Bride, You’ve Got mail, Something’s gotta give, it’s complicated, Julie & Julia, sound of music, 100 foot journey, when Harry met sally, Forrest Gump, The holiday, big , definitely maybe, as good as it gets, about time, time travelers wife … I gotta rewatch these!!!

  • When Harry Met Sally is the quintessential romantic comedy! Also love Hitch, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Ten Things I Hate About You (modern version of Taming of the Shrew), Overboard (the original). Anything by John Hughes, Cameron Crowe, Wes Anderson or Christopher Guest. If you’re looking for a classic, Barefoot in the Park starring a young, hilarious and sexy Jane Fonda. It’s charming, quirky NYC apartment setting plays a starring role too. I’m a Parker Posey fan, and I think Party Girl is her best. Speaking of Posey, Dazed and Confused is a classic!

  • Stranger Than Fiction is my absolute favorite too! Then Dan in Real Life, The Wedding Singer and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Mmm, I’m feeling a movie night asap!

  • I love Clueless and 13 going on 30 and I also love, love, love The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslot, New in Town with Renee Zellweger and Baby Boom with the very handsome Sam Shepard.

  • … oh and extra special mention for Strictly Ballroom, also a Baz Luhrmann, director of Moulin Rouge, film that is just delightful.
