Emma and I thought it would be fun to start a new once-in-a-while feature that allows us to publicly geek out over all our guilty pleasures. First up, Breaking Bad. I feel I should first confess that I'm a new-ish fan of the show. Last month Jeremy and I started marathoning it, and we became completely obsessed. Since the series finale is coming up this Sunday, I figured now was the perfect moment to immortalize my current obsession… with a cocktail recipe, of course!
Blue Crystal Cocktail, serves one
Vodka
Blue (mixed berry) kool-aid
Club soda
Sugar
Blue rock candy
Lime
Syrup: To make the blue syrup, combine 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water and 1 teaspoon Kool-Aid in a pan. Stir over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Cocktail: In a medium size glass with ice, add 1.5 ounces vodka, 1.5 ounces syrup (or to taste), 4-6 ounces club soda. Then, stir it up and squeeze the juice of one lime. Add a rock candy stick for garnish.
Now you know my secret recipe (JK, it's basically just a berry flavored vodka and sprite :D)

Absolutely! Been a big fan of the show since day one!! We are even planning to host a BB finale dinner with some friends. We’re going all out with Los Pollos Hermanos fried chicken baskets, cocktails, candy, snacks, etc… all homemade and based on the show and its characters. It’s going to be epic!

I feel like Breaking Bad is SUCH a hard show to marathon watch. It’s just so heavy, ya know? Maybe we’ll make some of these for the finale! Are you kidding me?????? Seriously???? The show has been on for five years! Please do not refer to yourself as a Fan girl! Watching all the episodes in one month doesn’t make you a fan, it just makes you late for the breaking bad train. Also…this drink looks disgusting. Now I realize that you will not allow this comment to be posted on your blog because you can’t handle criticism in any real way and only want people to praise you but this is just insulting. Anyone else a breaking bad fan??? You have to be kidding with that question. The show just won the Emmy for best drama. It is only of the highest rated shows and is considered one of the best written shows in TV history.

I’ve pretty much watched all of the seasons since the beginning (or well March 2011) and I’ve been EXTREMELY obsessed ever since. So obsessed that I’m making my own Breaking Bad inspired groom’s cake for mine and David’s 2015 summer wedding with the RV, Jesse, Walter, methlamine barrels, Los Pollos, etc.
So excited that you made up this cocktail because I so could use one on Sunday (or not since I’m pregnant!) because I’m going to be SO sad when its gone.

Wow, Mary with the faux outrage. Tried to watch the show and found it to be too heavy for my taste, especially living here in the meth capitol of the world, I quickly lost interest. A lab exploded up the street from me last summer. Love the cocktail, a DIY on easy shake and bake meth recipe might draw some traffic. I kid. Love you girls.

Can’t anyone be a fan of something just because she didn’t follow it from the begining? Does that mean that if I start to watch Star Trek now(just an example) – wich was on air when I was very little- I cannot like it? and if I like it, I should not be consider a fan? I guess my question is are you changing the focus of your blog more towards entertainment/cooking and home decor? Maybe with your home decor book in the works your brand is evolving too? Love that! I don’t have cable so I haven’t seen this half of the season (current). It’s driving me crazy! That show is addicting 🙂 On a roadtrip back to CO from AZ I ALLLLLLMOST stopped to stalk out the houses and film sites when I drove through Abq….if I wasn’t on a schedule I would’ve gone all fangirl on that place!
This looks like a GREAT IDEA! You can do this with skittles too, just gather around the same color, put candy in a bottle and fill with vodka.Leave for a few days.

Ooh, I just posted photos from a Breaking Bad filming location! We looooove BB and since we live here in New Mexico, we have so much fun seeing places nearby where scenes were filmed.

Embarrassed to say I have never seen Breaking Bad…(Mary, I’m still a good person…just a very busy one.) I have a job that keeps me burning up the road and I return home to a 4 acre farm that I grow organic produce on so I opted out from cable tv!
I used to make a blueberry schnapps and lemonade drink in the summers when my kids were young. It was delish and reminded me of this pretty drink.

Wondering where you found the Reyka vodka? We went to Iceland last year & it’d be great to have some of that vodka around the house to remind us (we drank ours already!)

I am pretty sure they purchased the rock candy swizzle stick, but you can google how to make rock candy. It’s really easy, but takes a few days.

It’s funny you should say that you read what happened before you watch it. I am usually like that (with Game of Thrones for example), but with Breaking Bad (which, like Elsie, I only started watching last month), I don’t want to know a thing, I *want* that surprise and tension. So incredibly fun that you are into Breaking Bad. I like it and I don’t at the same time. But I can’t stop watching. We live in Albuquerque and our city is OBSESSED with this show! So EVERYONE is in a state of mourning right now because it’s about to end. One restaurants is even holding red carpet parties! And there are places around town that have Breaking Bad food items – like drinks and candy. It’s pretty fun. There’s even a tour you can take yourself on with your phone and visit all the places that were filmed in the show. You should definitely come out and do the whole Breaking Bad experience. But not drugs ok? 😉
